Better than her Broadway run...when she did it at the Westchester Premier Theater...in the round, virtually no scenery..and all Lansbury. A volcanic star.
I was lucky enough to have seen Angela perform this role five times while it was on Broadway in 1974. I was a theatre major in college at the time. One night I was in standing room, and looked up to see her waiting to run down the aisle in Act I to shout, "Sing out, Louise!" Watching her change from Angela Lansbury to Momma Rose was breathtaking. Better than any acting class I ever took.
@pnrondeau100 Like you, I had a standing room ticket at the Winter Garden on the right aisle. A short time into the Uncle Jocko scene I looked to my left and there she was...Angela Lansbury...standing right next to me. No sooner did I realize it was her, she darted down the aisle. Guess you don't forget things like that.
I saw her live at the Picadilly Theatre in London... and she was amazing.. I remember her shimmying across the stage and soaring across the footlights..it was a long time ago, late seventies I think, but she was amazing.

WHOA! WHOA WHOA WHOA! That's all I can say. THIS IS AMAZING! Thank you so much for posting this! I have been waiting for so long to find footage of Lansbury in this role!
God, what a brilliant performance! I haven't even seen her whole performance, but from what I've seen and heard, she might be my favorite! I still think this is the most frantic, sad, disturbing, and terrifying Rose's Turn!
Saw this production.....she was brilliant!

I never knew she could sing til I was like 12 and she sang in Beauty in the Beast; the only thing I knew her from was Murder, She Wrote.

Damn this is a fast tempo. But it kinda works because it feels like Mama Rose is becoming really unhinged. Angela Landsbury kicks ass.

Angie was bored! That was the brilliance of the conductor. He followed her. She, like Rose, called the shots! She sang it according to her whim!

What's with the tempo? It's not this rapid fire on the recording.

It just blows my mind that she does this and I grew up my whole life thinking of her as sweet little Mrs. Potts....

Oh...god. Just...jesus.
How do you praise a woman who's received all the praise in the world?
Even the over-used term fierce-as-fuck doesn't do this justice...lol.
This is just pure, true theatrical brilliance.
Her monologue transcends perfection...it's just gut-wrenchingly real.
And when she reaches the finale and "everything's comin' up Rose!", it's literally scary. You can really *feel* her losing her mind.
A frighteningly powerful performance. Even better than on the recording.

Sat on the edge of my seat with my mouth wide open for the whole video. Jesus, what a performance!
