@Haansson123 Ford used to own volvo until they sold it to a Chinese company in 2010 (Geely Automobile) my Focus ST has the same engine as the Volvo C30 T5 SE Sport.
@ajlod934893 A/S3 Quattro or Golf R, not as cheap as Subaru Impreza diesel or 2.0 butt still 4wd :P or you can hope that Volvo makes the C30 Polestar version :D
Tom Ford, why don't you drive more Volvos and start to understand something about Volvo cars?...Ever tried a S60 T5 ou V70 R, probably a XC90 T6 Biturbo, or the S80 V8... you're not very good at you job, get a new one!
'and this is quick and its a volvo.waw' What is he trying to say.Volvo are very good reliable cars and quick too.get an s60 t5 mister or 2.4t4 and u can still feel that...I got an 850 swagon 2.5 with 170 bhp,1994 reg and some young teenager they can still think they can beat me with corsas:))VOLVO S are just not apreciated enough...

Cool car. Some reviewers prefer the cheaper Golf. But you have to go with what excites you. I haven't seen a single one of these on the road yet where I live. Mine is coming in July, can't wait!! I've saved £4000 by getting it through the Gov scrappage scheme, although most of the discount comes from Volvo.
Drove one of these diesel models in Italy for a week recently, it was the only rental car left on the the lot when we had pre-booked a corsa, but our flight was late so we got this for the same price as the cheapest rental. A great drive.the diesel moves like a petrol car.. its F A S T.
stupid englisch men ssay that the T5 engine is from a Ford. Is a genuine Volvo engine developed by swedisch enginers in Skövde. To bad that ford couldent develop an own engine for the Focus ST
Just because I don't share your opinion, doesn't mean I'm an idiot. It is implied, as it's basically the same to say "the engine from the ST" than "the engine from the Ford". It would have been better, and more respectful to Volvo to say something along the lines of "The 5 cylinder turbo used by this Volvo T5 and many other T5s before this, is the same unit fitted in the Focus ST". Your simple observation is purely metaphysical speculation.
The straight 5 has been used in many cars besides Volvo's throughout history. It has also been used in motorcycles. I feel that it is safe to say you like Volvo as evidenced by your youtube channel. I credit that as a basis for your bias. I do use the term idiot because I do question your intelligence. The Volvo motor in question is used in the Focus ST. Is this not true? I would be glad to debate semantics for some time, but none too lengthy. Simply put, I think you should question your bias.
I'm not stating that Volvo used the inline 5 layout first. I'm merely saying that the I5 used in the ST is a Volvo engine, and that reviews like this should respect that fact. The fact that I like Volvos doesn't mean that my views are bias. I simply know the facts, and I also know what is subtly implied. The presenter probably knows where this specific I5 originates, but his lexis suggests otherwise. Again, I challenge the grounds on which you insult my intelligence.
As long as we're quoting each other, I'll point this out: just because other people don't acknowledge implied suggestive lexis, doesn't mean that I don't know "what is subtly implied".
I don't mind him mentioning the ST (I never showed opposition to that).
Volvo developed their inline 5 (which has evolved into the engine in the ST, and newer Volvos) a long time before Ford bought them. More than 6 years before, I believe.
On a side note, I doubt this so called "hatch community" would use reviews such as this to extract information from. Reviews from Top Gear and Fifth Gear are rife with bad jokes and obtuse personalities. This review isn't too bad regarding those aspects, but it still holds one similarity: a lack of information. Only on rare occasions did he quote any good old 'facts and figures' unlike TG (original format) episodes, and US shows (such as MW). Even then, his information was lacking in substance.
This isn't going to go anywhere, but here it is anyway. After this, I am no longer interested in continuing this conversation.
"I don't mind him mentioning the ST."
Actually, this is where the whole argument stems from. You do indeed have a problem with the reference to the Focus instead of a direct reference to the engine being Volvo's.
As far as the implied piece, I would just say in this instance that the suggestiveness is so weak one doesn't have a clear argument one way or another.
As for the hatch community, I think you make a big assumption regarding the homogeneity of those people. There are arm chair enthusiast's, people who own these with no intention of tuning, tuners etc. Different people get their information from different places. This is further proven given that there are plenty of technical print sources as well as far less technical television shows.
Ford will let go of Volvo for any number of reasons (complicated).
As for the 'weak' suggestiveness, it is clear that you still lack aknowledgement of the subtly implied lexis. So much so, that the presenter wouldn't have noticed it whilst speaking, obviously.
You obviously don't analyse text multiple times a week, as I do. I'm not criticising your english skills in any way - you seem rather articulate (esp' for Youtube). I have learnt to spot subtle meanings in speech/text. That's maybe just one reason why you found difficulty noticing the suggestion.
I don't think Ford will let go of Volvo unless it really needs to. You obviously didn't understand my initial point, which is that I oppose the concept of suggesting, in any form, that the Volvo inline 5 originated from the Focus ST. I have no objection to the mention of the ST.
And as for you trying to criticise my intelligence:
i just realised that the same people who make 5th gear also do ITVs F1 coverage...where the fuck do they get these twat presenters? James Allen and that fat fuck...and vicky butler henderson...good god its my worst nightmare
YESS Finally someone who relizes the idiocy of fifth gear presenters. I'm a topgear man, And fuck vicky butler who is a about as wet as your average flanel with nothing more important to say without a script than my dog can bark
vicky butler henderson is an absolute wrong choice for fifth gear, to say it nicely, but then again all of the people on fifth gear are wrong, they try to copy the top gear formula and not very well. Never watch fifth gear! when ever its on i change channel immediately, they have nothing to say based on more than an uninformed opinion.
I wear a 12 inch shoe and I cannot get my foot on the gas pedal without pressing the brake pedal at the same time....perfect other than that. Amazing handling, comfort, quiet, acceleration, and smooth torque. Just cant get my feet to cooperate. I would modify the pedal if I bought one...which I think is illegal as hell.

I've been saying that so many times - in fact I was about to point it out before I saw your comment.
At least one person knows that the brilliant inline 5 is from Volvo, not Ford.

Where has he said that the engine is from Ford? He quite clearly stated that it's the same engine that's in the ST, not that it is Ford made.

Fine, as this is completely subjective.
"I simply know the facts, and I also know what is subtly implied."
You do not know what is subtly implied as evidenced by the fact that people here question that anything is implied at all.
Also, his mention of the Focus ST could easily be due to the fact that the hatch community has more familiarity with cars outside of Volvo's line-up.
alpsalish 2 years ago
Also, Ford owns Volvo so technically speaking the engine you refer to is Ford property at this point. For how long is the question though.
alpsalish 2 years ago
As long as we're quoting each other, I'll point this out: just because other people don't acknowledge implied suggestive lexis, doesn't mean that I don't know "what is subtly implied".

And as for Ford letting go of Volvo... Why? Here are some facts:
Sales of new Volvo cars increase by almost 11% in 2008
Market share increases by 25%
Fleet sales increase by 29%, and end-user company car registrations by 33%
Strong sales anticipated in 2009 with the launch of the economical, sub 120g/km CO2 emitting DRIVe range.
