They definately "blew away" some of the bands they opened up for, even without Schenker. These guys were a tough act to follow, as some bands found out the hard way. The reviews for UFO frequently overshadowed those of many of the headlining acts, and rightfully so. As far as today's bands..., I'll just leave it there, and keep dreaming.

UFO...simply one the best combinations of hard rock musicians ever as assembled. Saw 'em twice in the 70's, opening for Rush and Triumph. And as recent as 2008 in San Diego where I had a chance to meet Mr. Mogg, Andy and Paul. Way cool mates and no rock star attitude.

Yes, I'm lucky I grew up w/ this music.

We saw UFO at the Chicago Ampitheater when they recorded Strangers In The Night, we had fourth row scalper tix for $60 a pop. It was a WLUP "The Loop" Banner Show, our UFO banner was ruined from the rain but it was the best show I have ever seen to this day, and I'm 46 and I have seen 100s and 100s of bands. When they got back together for the Walk On Water LP/Tour I went to see them again for the first time since Strangers at the Keystone, Palo Alto, CA. Hadn't missed a beat in all those years.

Hi All, Well Im 44 and the first time I saw UFO was in 1979 and then when the headlined Reading in 1980. After then loads of times. I have to say though that for al the people who go on about Michael, the truth is that the band are better off without him and lets face it, its Phil who is the brains who writes the songs. Just listed to the "sign of" album, just brilliant. Michael was great but if he had kept off the bottle he would have been far better... and I am a MS fan. So enjoy : Dom

Just a small correction on your comment"Phil who writes the songs", not to stir anything but remember,Schenker wrote the music & Mogg wrote the lyrics,by 1979 Michael Schenker had left UFO & in 1980 he had formed MSG,so I believe you never saw UFO with Schenker,and people that got to see UFO with Schenker noticed the big difference when he left UFO but I do agree with you about if he had kept off the bottle!

Thats true in a sense but I did see Michael with them later when he came back for one of his fleeting visits. MSG were on the bill at reading too one of those years and were good. I think the point I was making, much like with everything else, is that a happy group usually produces some good material and UFO were clearly happier without Michael. Point taken though. Just to add my voice, Schenker was with them in Toronto in 1979 as well. Chapman had done the first part of the tour and then Schenker had returned only to leave again later on.

Interesting thing about that show is the other act on the bill that night was a relatively unknown band from Austrailia called AC/DC.

Michael Still plays a couple times a year in very small clubs IN the Area. Growing up with UFO in High School. It's a very specail treat to see him play all the oldies here inLA and front is very easy only abut 1500 people show up. check ticket master for upcoming shows
