  • Moon Patrol for the 5200 has the music backround..

  • woah i came from the future to see it

  • ...but he has the same attitude!

  • Woah Mark's voice is different...

  • the review MOON PATROL for Atari 5200 brought me here

  • Mark from the future sent me here ._.

  • @enzoTHEferrari :) Me too!

  • wow... i cant believe i remember this. this game was amazing.

  • @a2r1v1i2s It still is. Get yourself an Atari

  • This looks pretty cool. I need to give this a shot.

  • lol u have to jump soo damn early.

  • Hey Mark dude...ur playing the wrong version. U want the atari 800 xl version with the music and stuff. It's more awesome

  • LOL! reminds me of when i was 6 years old - man games have gone from this to need for speed! Honest i can remember most games for the atari and commodore 64 they were great in their day. Moon patrol was really fun and frustrating especially when the rocket came from the back and had to jump and then shoot it while trying to avoid craters.

  • I was thinking of the 5200 version that had music - that played over and over and OVER. I got so tired of that song! But now it brings back memories...

  • Mark you should re-review this game on the atari with the kick ass music!

  • Maybe the best arcade conversion for the 2600.

  • The moon floor is green?! -Turns b&w button on!

  • i really liked the music in the first minutes of the review. Can you pls tell me the name?

  • Wow, another blast from my past!!

  • This game is awsome for the 2600 - plays just like the arcade game. It does have a sound track though, Mark perhaps you need to check out some of the switches on on your console, i think its the left difficulty switch that turns on the music - being an atari veteran like me you would have known that this version does have the music and its awsome.

  • great review

  • What an awesome game. I had this one and it was probably my fourth game for Atari and one of the best. I was so terrible at it with the parts where you had a rock and two craters right next to each other.

  • What's funny is the Pause button on the 7800 is actually the 2600's Color/B&W switch. I think a slight mod is needed to keep the switch in another position.

  • This looks like the He-Man game that cam out for the 2600 back in the day.

  • There is a sound track in the 2600 version you had to set the difficulty switch to either A or B to get the music

  • one of the most catchy game tunes of the 80s

    next to Blue Max

  • Some games just should not be played again here in the modern era. It rocked in the arcade, but not so much on the 2600.

  • I love it when a plan comes together ;-)

  • There's moisture vaporators on the moon?

  • this version of the game does have a soundtrack, you have to set the left difficulty switch to expert. the right difficulty switch controls the difficulty.

  • tan tan tin tirin tirin tiiiirin tan tan tin tirin tirin tiriiin,,,tan taran taran taranran.......

  • hahaha - the A - Team, what a glorious reason for a game...

  • They actually were working on an A-Team video game for the Atari 2600 in 1984,but it was never released.

  • Well, dying of thirst on the moon won't be an option. :)

  • One of my 2600 favorites. I played this game to death as a kid.

    Great review.

  • Great game but this sucks on the Atari 2600. Big time. Any of the 8-bit versions (C-64 comes to mind) are far superior.

  • The Atari 2600 has an 8-bit CPU.

  • @gszx1337 I thought it was 4 bit?

  • @anthonywastrinh

According to Wikipedia, the MOS 6507 is an 8-bit CPU.

  • @gszx1337 k. thx

  • jumping issue is similar to NES donkey kong am i right?

  • Brilliant, everyone can relate to a moon patroler trying to get home in time to catch A-team

  • I hated that show. :P

  • Grr. *shakes fist*

  • Hello Friend !!

You must adjust diffuculty to "A" mode and

    soundtrack will be activated...

  • Man, some of the late-period (1983-84) 2600 games are a revelation. I had already moved on to Colecovision and my TI 99 computer by then, so I never saw Millipede or Moon Patrol here for the Atari. GOOD translations!

It's amazing how far the designers had learned to take the 2600's limited hardware by this time.

... and then the bottom dropped out.

  • Wonder why there is no sound in his version. I know for sure (and there are other videos that prove it) that the 2600 version had a looping soundtrack.

  • your right it does look like it has feet

  • looking at some of your 2600 videos im thinking about getting an atari, grew up with the NES here

  • get the atari man.i saw these videos and saw the atari games and i had to get it.i dont regret it one bit it is awsome

  • three scrolling background layers, nice for 2600

  • I had a VCR in 1983. I always watched A team no matter what. Sorry.

  • The game does have sound chage your difficulty switch and you will hear the music

  • Voltron and the A-Team rule!

  • The best part of these reviews is I keep checking this big atari lot I won, and most of the games are in it :)

I'm hunting for a good price on Montezuma's Revenge and Tapper though.

  • i played this game in the arcade last year during vacation but the screen was cracked, pixels were all messed up and the color kept flashing from pink to purple. the game was still fucking fun though lol.

it also had a catchy beat too

  • Absolutely loved the arcade version. This one was a little lacking, but when you're 7 years old graphics aren't really that big a deal. ^,~

And yes there is a soundtrack. I too can still remember it after all these years.

  • Im gonna show my age here.. but... I still have this game. If you change the difficulty A-B switch on the back of your 2600, the music will turn on or off :)

It is a catchy tune.. that I still remember after 20 years!!!!!

  • Now that i look at this game, i remember that my old cell phone Nokia 1100 had a very similar game called Space Impact. It was the same game.

What is the song that plays at the beginning of the episode called?

  • I always wondered why the moon was green?

  • Well, if we assume the moon is made of cheese in the game as per real life, it must have gone old after being left out of the fridge for countless millennia. It goes a freakish green shade, and starts to smell really, really badly.

It seems like the most logical explanation.

  • But space is freezing! So maybe it's still good, grab some wine, we're going to the moon guys!

  • Fair point, but it only takes one infestation by cheese-eating space worms to ruin it for everyone. We should erect a protection shield around the moon while it is still pure!

  • But there's no oxygen in space.

  • This is AtariLand: logic has no place here!

  • The XL/XE version is way cooler.

  • There IS a sound track. Try the option buttons.

Do DEET dee doo de doo doo DEET...

  • can you be a teetotaler and still be a fan of CGR? lol

  • this is the best reviews, him an d Knightwing01, but this has the best music

  • Mr. Broccoli... LOL. I aint' flyin' wit dat foo, Hannibal!!!

  • The difficulty controls whether the music plays or not

  • Moon Patrol in the arcade was a fantastic game but I must admit I really did enjoy the Atari2600 version for home. I played this game alot!

  • Yeah this game is boss, I was playing it earlier. It also felt like one of the most unique games back in the day when I was a kid.

The little ditty that plays is pretty catchy too. I may not have found it if it wasn't mentioned in the comments.

  • In the arcade I remember 2 button fire and jump

in the atari 2600 you have 1 buttons how do you du that

  • You push up on the joystick to jump and you press the button to fire.

  • thanks so if I buy it im gonna know how to play :)

  • lol im sure you could have figured it out man.

  • COOL

  • The Atari 8-bit version has a soundtrack playing all the way through it.

It's the first game I ever completed.

  • COOL

  • If they had Olympics for the Atari 2600 back in the day, I would have put Michael Phelps to shame. I destroyed so many games.

  • I had the 2600 version, and it had music. It was a little tune that would just loop over and over again. Actually.. I think I still have this game in a box somewhere.

I think the difficulty switch turned the music on and off.

  • too bad they didnt have the music on the 2600 version. i had it for C64, and the music was the same as arcade though SID sounding. i imagine there was music for the 7800 version (a guess), and if the 2600 and 7800 shared the same sound chip - wonder why not the 2600 version sported no soundtrack.

  • They had a 7800 version of this game. ^^

  • No. They had a 5200 version though.

  • Well okay, but they had also a 7800 version.

  • One was made for the 7800 but never released. A copy has never been found.

  • there's nothing like patroling the moon and shutin' some bad guys to put me in good mood

    amen!! to that

  • best game i owned on thr Atari 2600 still got the cartridge

  • the atari 800 version is better imo

  • The A-Team part of the story sound about right.

  • awesome! more pre-1999 games!

  • I pitty da fool that dont play Moon Patrol.

  • One thing I love about your reviews is the schweet music you use.

  • holy crap i remember this game from the arcade. thanks for the memories. now i think id play it for 10 minutes and throw it in the trash. but back in the day it was pretty cool

  • You guys are funny :)

    Great review!

  • The soundtrack that you remember is available when you flip the Left Difficulty Switch on the 2600.

But I agree--this is a good translation of Moon Patrol (considering the 2600's limitations).

  • It is!? Damn, I didn't even think to check that, I'm using the 7800 so I always forget to look at those switches. That music is great. -mark

  • Yep. I found it out by accident one day:

"The LEFT DIFFICULTY switch can be used to turn off the background MOON PATROL music when placed in the A position. The RIGHT DIFFICULTY switch can be used to select either two moving speeds or three moving speeds. Set the switch to B for three speeds. set it to A for two speeds."

My mom always made me turn off the music, because it annoyed her :)

  • nice vid
