I have this and it works, but I can't stand that the dialer program pops open every time I get a phone call and kicks me out of what ever I'm doing. Watching a movie *ring* kicked out of the movie I was watching, Playing WoW *ring* get kicked out of my game, Surfing the net *ring* got kicked off the page I was looking at. Seems that they really need to fix that annoying dialer program from kicking people out of what they are doing at the time when the phone rings.

I've had mine for 2 years. It works about half the time. You have to leave your computer on and disable sleep or hibernate functions. Even then the software freezes sometimes and you have to unplug it, wait a moment,and plug it in again. It's cheap and works, but not reliably.

The quality of this Magic Jack was superior when I compare it to other services. Remember MagicJack is only as good as your Internet connection, if you don't have a clear line make sure you contact your ISP and have that fixed. I tested this with Verizon and Comcast and then work great, but had some noise while using it with AT&T but was still manageable.

Hmmm funny.... I have been using it on Windows 7, had some initial hiccups because of the Operating System but figured it out and now it works like a charm. It beats vonage any day. However, if people are looking for a Vonage like service but a cheap alternative, then I suggest Ooma. It's slightly more expensive than Magic Jack but you don't have to keep the computer switched on.

It totally sucks!  Calls don't go through. Then after 3 months the adapter stopped working. I tried to get help but no one knew anything. Especially if you have a Mac don't use!

@LakanLode I just got one of these Pieces of crap a couple weeks ago. I tried to hook it up with my Mac...nothing, zilch. I "type" to the live chat people and convey the problem. They said I had to go find a windows based computer to register. Um why do they advertise it works on mac? So I bite and go find a PC, come back and try to get it working on the Mac. Well after 4-5 hours of my life wasted dealing with their techs I finally gave up. This product is going back. DON"T BUY ANYONE!!!

Hey, thats a feature I was hoping to get with MJ (For caller ID with Names) but to no cigar, thats a part where at this time MJ is lacking. When you call someone only the the MJ number shows and no names with it. The color ID will display your number twice, one for ID name and the other your ID number. Caller ID name = (your number) Caller ID = (your number again) twice. So no it doesn't display any names just phone numbers! Hope that helps...

The Ooma Core is WAY better than MJ. There are no programs to download with Ooma so it doesnt take up any cpu space and you dont have to keep your computer on to use the phone. Also, Ooma actually has customer support you can call instead of spending hours in an online chat that never seems to resolve the issue. The call quality is not even close between the two. Ooma prides itself on fantastic call quality whereas MJ is hit or miss whenever you use the phone. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I have the magicjack. Love this thing. cant beat it. I had one line with my local company no features for 32.00 a month. got the the magicjack and got all the features, for just 20 bucks a year. This thing works, this thing is the truth. Got mine running on a 3 phone system that I got from WalMart. I have 2 .. 1 for the house # and one for my Fax # they both work awesomely. You need a Fast Speed Internet connection. Every now and then the computers need a re boot but not that often. Couple things though, supposing you have multiple phones at home in different rooms, but only one computer, you'll have to keep all phones in the computer room, maybe a problem for old people who have problems getting around.

Also, the travel conveniences assume you own a laptop with broadband Internet connection.

I have a Magic Jack! It works great for me! I dont know why other people are seeming to have a hard time with it. Probably cause of a few things. 1. they have a old computer with Low memory and a slower processor. 2. a slow internet connection. anything less than 768K is worthless. for win xp.. Id reccomend you upgrade your ram to 1 gig or better. fir win vista Upgrade it to at least 2 gig or better..

I might mention that some people report quality problems, but i found that if I turned down both the speaker and mike settings all the static completely cleared up. It seems that the devise is so sensitive that you get feed back from your handset and that causes static to the land line user.I think that they have to invest more in hardware so they can handle the volume of calls. Until they do that it will be just a toy. A phone has to be reliable 24/7 not 18/7.

I had mine just short of a month. it works great about 80% of the time. During peak hours you get a message that you arn't connected to the internet when you really are connected. It hardley ever was able to connect to Magicjack servers in the morning or evening. I suggested that they weren't keeping up with demand. The tech support person said they were working on the problem as we spoke. I'm returning the devise tomorrow. I hope they can expand their capacity in the future.

Just ordered my free trial. Got a dedicated PC to avoid any of these problems everyones B!tching about. The quality of these VOIP products depend on a lot of technical hardware overhead between you, the network servers, the person you're calling, and the machine you're using. Save some money, get a cheap old PC just for this MJ, that's if you don't already have one. Make sure it has USB 2.0 and a good network adapter, and you're good to go. If you're a techy this is a no brainer. SAVE SOME MONEY

This devices uses a proprietary firmware and REQUIRES a proprietary operating system such as Windows for (in Beta) OS X. They do not advertise this fact. It will not work with any other operating system. I would never want one of these, since I do not use proprietary operating systems in my home. It is crazy that they do not release a standard ethernet or wifi version, let alone work with standard SIP-compatible devices.
