  • Duh. I know that. Hence the quotes. It is incorrectly referred to as "no accent" in the US. Naturally, that is a misnomer.

  • That was a great Philly accent. I would have loved to have heard you do a Maine or Mass. accent, and you did a Texas accent as a "southern" accent, but those from Georgia and West Virginia are both different. I think there is one in the Missouri area that makes everyone sound like a know-it-all, but I admit to limited access to that demographic. There's one for Boston as well.

  • Oh lol

  • HOLY CRAP this is freaky to watch lolll.... he legit sounds american :O

  • your first go around sounds as if you have the flat philadelphia accent. nicely done.

  • Very thoughtful of you to try to redeem yourself rather than be stiff necked and demand to be right. Very nice accents though. Keep it up dude.

  • We're not as diverse as England, since we haven't been without fast travel for as long as you guys, but there's a ton of accents. In my state, Wisconsin, we have at least three or four main ones and a few variations. The general American thing you speak with, and quite well, is like BBC English. It's what we think we sound like in our heads, but it really isn't, it's just a way to keep newscasts as comprehensible as possible.

  • @JohnSmithAprilMay It's mostly due to the Roman; Saxon, Jute and Angle; and Norman occupations, in which some settled in an area and practically isolated themselves from the rest of the country.

  • Best way to remember a general Georgia accent is to use Georgia= Jawja as a base reference in forming the rest of your wording. I'm from the South(SC to be exact) and I know that even in the State alone there's at least 3-4 distinguishable dialects.

  • @cwaitt -- I realized when I took the kids on vacation to Pigeon Forge that the Appalachian accent was bascially the same as the Southwest Georgia (farming and working-class white) accent. Most of us are descendend from immigrants who left Appalachia and moved into Southwest Georgia in the wake of the Indian Removals (Trail of Tears) of the early 1800s.

  • Awesome job! People speak "no-accent" (what you called generic) on the west coast and midwest.

There are 2 types of dialects that often intersect: regional and lifestyle. Lifestyle relates to an adopted culture, i.e. "gay" accent -- a descendent of Valley Girl. There is also what some identify as a "black" accent, a bad label as many people have adopted such speech.

Regional Accents: New York Proper, Brooklyn; Chicago; Boston; Carolinas, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota

  • @withextraonions There's no such thing as "no accent", just the accent that is most commonly recognised and, therefore, represents the country, such as Queen's English in England and Bavarian for Germany.

  • YOU UGLY STUPID, POM YOUR PATHETIC!

  • @artzysmartzy Says the person who doesn't know how to use an apostrophe. The word you were looking for there was "you're". Also, there should have been some sort of punctuation between that word and "pom", as well as a comma between "ugly" and "stupid".

  • lol this was good.

  • there are quite a few regional differences. los angeles (cali accent) versus a seattle accent (which is basically the general accent you're doing here). boston accent, georgia accent too.

  • Your general american accent is pretty spot on.. but hawaiian accent is not the same as everywhere else.. its so different!

  • I thought that your general American accent was excellent...

  • A very talented guy and funny too

  • Enjoyed your different American accents. Yes, we ARE all gay mafia members.

  • I was convinced. :)

  • your general american accent was a LITTLE off but still pretty good lol

  • I don't understand why you're apologizing for the video. If you offended anyone, thats there problem. Lots of clueless, rude Americans make videos about British accents and never apologize. Do we think it doesn't bother you?

  • A lot of WHITE rice Americans come to Hawaii to sleep with the Asian locals as an misinterpretation of being with an Asian is normal in Hawaii. Prostitution is always a problem everywhere. Also a lot of white people flock to Hawaii because of something of being it as strange so they romanticize it. I do not know why. I can understand if you are an Asian expat but for others I am not sure why.

  • A lot of white rich American tourist like to come to Hawaii to sleep with the locals. Hawaiian culture is a mixture of different people that contribute to the diversity of the Hawaiian faces. Hawaii is unique in the sense that it is Asian majority and white minority. There are couples of different kinds of European French Portuguese Russian who came to work on the plantations that then blended with the other locals.

  • I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota which is relatively far from Fargo, ND. In rural Minnesota a lot of them do talk with the yahhh and don-cha know, like Sarah Palin. In the Twin Cities we pretty much have the general accent except for slightly more pronounced vowels and certain words like pop instead of soda.

  • fargo is in North Dakota not Minnesota.

  • north jersey: there's a spider in the water = theys a spydah in thuh wudduh

  • @licoricepirate lol.

  • She was only charging $150! and you declined?? That's dirt cheap man!

Oh, your accents are pretty good!

  • You're adorable, but your southern accent is awful. horrid. absolutely wretched. I need an apology please.

  • Theres allot of regional differences.

For example: People on the east and west coast speak almost completely different.

    "Can I have sume waterr." <---- L.A.

"Can I have sume wataa." <--- Boston Mass.

  • Funny because Hawaii doesn't really have it's own accent. It's mostly filled with rich white tourists from all over America.

The locals definitely have their own special type of accent and like other people have said, it is pretty unique. Another thing they have is Pidgin which is basically another language that only locals know how to speak.

I should know, my entire family is Hawaiian and I lived there for a couple of years :P

  • @JRV95 I agree. There is a Hawaiian accent.

  • i think your american with a british accent. you wank.

  • Now you need an apology video for the negative southern stereotypes.

  • @ApolloWaits Why do you get so offended? It's obviously not meant to be kind.

  • A good ol country ass whippin! yeah boys lololololol

  • "there's at least 4" lol Yep. That makes one tempted to think you were kidding about being British. Good job.

  • Spot on! Not bad at all. You'd pass ;)

  • if you were to talk to me in that accent, i would be fooled

  • i forgot you were english while you were just talking. your american accent was great!

  • Hehe you did a great job.

Most of the people out here in California sound like that.

Remember yall, he did say he was in LA also. You will hear many that talk like that as well.

Yea there are more accents. Did you know the African Americans out here have their own accents!

Many different ethnics can change the accent, no matter where your from.

of course not all of them.

     Different Southern accents & mainstreams.

Of course the Boston & NY accents which is dif them most. Depending on what part.

  • Your "general" American accent is pretty spot-on. Really impressive. It sounds rather midwestern morre than anything. I couldn't emulate an Australian accent for the life of me.

  • That was a haole accent haha!

  • We do have an accent in Hawaii but for more...background(?) on how it kind of came to be, look up Hawaiian Pidgin English. That's probably how the bus driver was speaking.

  • the general american accent is absolutely dead-on. some of your southern accent is a little outdated but decent.

  • spot on general american!

  • Your american accent sounded dead on. Your imitation of the bus driver was pretty spot on as well haha because I've heard them speak that way, the only problem I had was i didn't really like it when u made fun of some of our native words and followed it with a monkey sound I thought that was pretty disrespectful especially because us as Hawaiians are very proud of our language because it was something America tried to take away once.

  • your southern accent sounds a little like foghorn leghorn

  • Your American accent is close but not quite...your southern American accent is really good.

  • having watched the accent clips i observed that fellow brits got angrier hearing the many regional accents, whereas americans took a more positive stance hearing their own accents froman outsider.I wonder why.The jury is out............

  • spot on this time

  • excellent

  • American accent is spot on! Afraid to get shot in LA?

  • honestly. i don't think there is a general american accent. i've been all across this country and every place i've ever been speaks with a different accent. some places like my homestate of new york has many different accents

  • your general american accent is great. your southern accent is absolutely terrible

  • There are so many subtle nuances to the varying american accents that it's almost impossible for a foreigner to get a tight rein on it - your general american is quite good but the rest of it varies from being close to right to way off. good effort though!

  • i definitely agree with @Karmara7, it sounds like a connecticut accent. great job! it's dead on.

just fyi, fargo is in north dakota, not minnesota. but that general area (north dakota, south dakota, minnesota, and wisconsin) all have the same general accent.

  • @lavieenrose95 no they do not, North Dakota doesn't have that steriotypical midwestern accent, they don't even have an accent, (like those books on tape and stuff when they dont speak with an accent from anywhere, sounds like the people who speak proper english) just normal

  • The general american accent sounds like a conecticut accent.

  • As far as American accents go, the Chicago/Michigan/Buffalo accent (it's all pretty similar) is very distinct. As are Brooklyn and Boston. Rhode Island too. RI is kind of a mix between Brooklyn and Boston. Pennsylvania, especially around the York area has a very distinct accent. Oh and who can forget Staten Island! Maybe I should do my own video...

  • Your American accent is right on the money!

  • This apology really wasn't necessary, people will always complain.

  • OMG YOUR GOOD MAN

  • are you a linguist by trade? I'm from the US and I've been in the UK for 5 years, its crazy here how varied accents are with just 10 minutes driving!

  • Lol when you so Southern you sound like Foghorn Leghorn. =) You're great!

  • Check youself Dunk...... if you plan on going back to visit Hawaii.....Hawaiians are Tough, Territorial and the don't forget.....ya don't wanna be letting you mouth write a check your ass don't have the fund to cash....

  • I'm from the U.S. and you sound authentically American . Most British people overdo their "r" s or just do some silly valley girl type accent and call that "American"

  • @4lfclvr67 thats because most in the UK only really see things on TV or films. When you actually meet them they have a curious fascination with our accents :D

  • Try a Cleveland accent...

"Wee lissen ta poolka rekerds on t'weekends"

  • That's a great job of the average American accent, and the very least, and the southern was good as well, although there are some variances in southern accents; the one you used applies well to most states in the northeastern part of the confederacy.

  • your american accent is perfect.fox news will call shortly.....

  • For the most part, each state has at least one accent... each one with at least as much variation as your regional British accents. I can think of 3 different varieties of pidgin in Hawaii that sound more distinct than half of the accents in your British video. Not that I think we're cool cuz we have alot of accents or anything but I would think that, being as interested in the subject as you appear to be, you might want to expand your horizons a bit rather than sound like an ignorant bumpkin.

  • @Trypticon808, it think it depends where your from, for example because i am from britain the regional accents are pretty distinct, but to me a lot of the subtleties of you accents are lost on me, and he doesn't really sound like a bumpkin to us english, but i can see how he would to an american.

  • Bro u did a great job on the accents!! I love the accents! I cannot do a proper yorkshire accent! U totally forgot to do the MANCHESTA!!! Ur American accents are spot on!

  • very nice job with typical american accent.

you're doing deep south(alabama, georgia). check out some texas, um, brooklyn jews, and boston(upper class and working class).

  • No, you were right all along with the first video. No apologies!

  • Uncanny.

  • So many people, go to HI and don't even leave the tourist spots and think that they know all about HI. He clearly didn't meet anyone who speaks pidgin.

  • you never did black people accents, make another vid with black people accents

  • The "general American accent" is basically the one you're speaking with the whole time...were you going for that? haha

    Sounds great to me!

And your accents are awesome! (I watched your other video too)

  • "i have a look about me that says this is a man who sleeps with women for money" ahahaha that's golden

  • Go to Minnesota, then fly to Alabama, then fly to Charleston, then go to San Fransisco, then try out West Virginia, then try Michigan, New York, Boston, New Orleans, they all have different accents!

  • Your American accent is better than mine, and I've lived in the US for my whole life!

  • Your 'general American' accent was awesome!! Which is funny, because you said you picked it up in Honolulu, and they actually don't sound like that, haha. I've lived here for 4 years, and they definitely have a distinct accent. It's hard to explain, and I'm too tired to get into it now. You must have spoken to a lot of transplants and not too many locals. Locals don't sound like surfer boys from Cali haha.

I'm still impressed with the general accent though...Awesome

  • I don't know why you'd want to do this, but an Arkansas accent would be very interesting. It's an ugly, ugly Southern accent. The Southern American accent you were doing reminded me of a sort-of Mississippi drawl with a Midwestern grit.

The accent I'm talking about is very Jeff Foxworthy. "Accent" would be "ax-iyint". A lot of people like to overdo it, more like: "ax-iyunt", but I can always tell. It's hard to do an inbred hillbilly accent perfectly; the temptation to exaggerate is strong.

  • Oh damn.

That was seamless. I'm an American. I'm an Arkansan by birth (i.e. a "hillbilly"), but I'm a senior at a pretty OK college; when you spend enough time with books and bookish people, your accent becomes much more generalized.

I couldn't tell the difference. Your accent reminded me of someone from Missouri. The subtle touches ( "y'know?", "aaand, yeah." etc.) really made it perfect. Very very general. Missouri people have such boring accents.

  • howzit brah?

After living in Hawaii for about 4 years through college, I can say that local hawaiian english is nothing like general american. Hawaiian Pidgin is actually pretty tough to understand, but fun non the less. Shoots cuz

sounded like you had the typical haole accent, meaning mainlander. Haole meaning not native-born, especially white folks from the mainland (technically without breath, but that's another story)

  • omg, I JUST posted a comment saying you only did two accents and then I found this! No need to apologize, the other video was very funny. I perfer this one though, haha

  • I think your funny....I live in Hawaii...and I still think your funny......we say ho bra how u stay....which means hay! How are you....

  • Your "General American" sounded more like someone from Philly. But still pretty good:)

  • lol man you can make fun of gay people all you want i think its funny lol

  • wow! that was really good! you sounded like a mix of john goodman and peter from family guy! and in case you don't know, those are pretty much the standard american dads! that means, bravo for you!

  • he should try the "american dad" accent!

  • i know! that would be great! that's the next step!

  • id love to hear more of your Fargo accent.

im a big fan of dat one dontcha know. oh boy, you gat dat right, eh!

  • Man, that's really impressive! I've seen some of your other vids, and you're awesome.

  • damn dude, u needa be an actor, ur better than most british actors at the american accent

  • Damn good. But I'm another of those idiots who has to nitpick when it comes to my own accent.

Non-Rhoticity is only common in the deep, deep (deep) South. We love our Rs. But we love outsiders more than Rs! Southern Hospitality is positively famous.

The bit about gettin a good ole country ass whippin when ya get outta line is true, but it applies to Southerners too. Maybe even more so than it does to visitors. :-P

  • pretty good your samoan accent

  • very good american accent...got better towards the end.

  • Love the video! You should try a Maine accent, they're pretty interesting and amusing. Say "ayuh" a lot... you should try it!

  • Sorry about the harsh smoking laws and the relaxed gun laws.

  • i'm confused...are you british or american??? both accents are really good.....

  • He`s Scottish, He`s From Glasgow.

  • Really? Is he doing an accent from the start?

  • I am from the South and although I don't have an accent like that, it's probably one of the best ones I've heard. People always do horrible Southern accents but yours is pretty good. That would be what I call a "good ole boy" accent...haha.

  • Haha Hawaiians don't sound anything like the other American accents. The general accent you're using through the whole thing is dead on though ((:

  • When you said "from watching television over the years sounds a little like this" you used a really old fashioned southern accent (almost like something you'd hear in a Civil War documentary). After that you switched to a more modern version of the southern accent. :)

To hear a really unusual accent you should go to Michigans Upper Peninsula sometime. It's a strange mix of Dutch, German, and standard American.

Oh and the hawaiian hand thing is called a shaka.

  • there is a pretty significant difference between the northern pacific and southern pacific american accents (californian and washington...ian are very different)

  • hey I just wanted to compliment you on your skill in doing accents. I am from California and if I saw you on the street speaking that way I would probably know that you weren't from California but I otherwise would have no way to tell whatsoever that you weren't American. There is a kind of Italian-American undertone to it, but maybe some Ohio in it too. I was wondering what your method for learning to do an accent was--just listening?

  • Excellent job. I'm from the US (east coast) and you're dead on. I wouldn't have known that you weren't America. I'd like to see you try a PHILADELPHIA accent. I can pick that up in an instant. It's very hard to explain. And no, it's not how Sly Stallone talks in Rocky--that's over done. Give it a shot. You're very talented!

  • awesome american accent! youre so good! i love all your vids so far :D

  • Your Southern character scared me, but note these Yahoo search results: "southern hospitality" 4,480,000, "western hospitality" 839,000, "northern hospitality" 103,000.

  • Excellent general American accent. The Southern stuff was funny too, and I wasn't offended by it. As a Southerner, though, I assure you that most Southerners are friendly to outsiders (I myself haven't shot anybody in a couple of weeks).

  • Not bad at all! I'm American and I also think there's nothing to be offended about here.

  • The generic American accent is so boring. I hate it. I use it, but I hate it. I feel like an idiot when I try to use any other accent, except a Kansas/southern accent.

  • man i like you new york from the oher one where you tlak about tourist and high blood pressure and what do you need"

  • Who would've been offended? I am an American-British-New Zealander(born in Australia, mind you) chap and I am not offended by stuff like this. Anyway, you're a good fellow.

  • hay.. most americans are pretty laid back! i'm sure the gesture of an apology is appreciated by the few americans who did get offended. keep it up!!!!!!!!!! i like your videos!!!

  • great vids. i absolutely love them. if ur gonna do another one, try a socal accent. i love to hear what other's think we sound like.

    later

  • very talented, well done

  • pretty sure you dont have to apologize to anyone. they can get over themselves. i'm from texas, and no, not all of us texans have an accent like that. but thats what makes it funny. stick with the gay american one. thats my favorite. you should also try a minnisota accent. they're damn tricky.

  • I think your general accent is perfect. You could come over here and fool a lot of people! I love how your video don't just show off accents like many others on here but are incredibly funny as well.

  • you know i think he was british, but that video could have fooled me any day, sounded like anyone i live around (in canada, on east coast)

  • "I never left LAX because I was afraid of getting shot" that's great.

  • dreq is a bumbaclat

  • The best I've heard, great job.

  • there are actually about five major accents in america but if you go to certain cities here the people that live in that city may have a different accent then the region that the city is in. so there is five major accents not four. oh and your american accent was really good except the southern accent was a bit off.

  • Your generic American accent is quite good.

  • having both american and british parents means i can do both perfectly, not to brag or nothing.

  • wow your accent is perfect.Great job and keep it up!

  • Haha, man, you're freaking hilarious.

    And brilliant.

Not that I would know anything about american accents though...

  • Best American accent I've ever heard by a foreigner.

  • perfect, dude. Michigan kinda has one too. people tell me that we say Waader instead of Water. And Paap instead of Pop. i guess we just like A's.

  • I'm sure it's because of the Polish immigrant influence. That's just like my mama speaks. She was raised in Chicago and is a second generation Pole. :-)

  • that hand sign means hangloose

  • Your American accent is frigging perfect. I would never guess it wasn't authentic.

You made the right choice in remaining inside LAX for your stop-over, by the way. The only way Los Angeles is beautiful is at night time... from an airplane.

  • where are u from?

  • yeah more then four

  • yeah, your general american accent sounds very much like tom hanks.

  • Oh my goodness, it does! lol

  • Oh my goodness, you're right! lol

  • I'm from New Mexico, and we do have our own accent down here, that, much like our state, is often thought to be Mexican, but isn't.

  • Hey chief! I'm from Southern California, and I totally dig your accents. You've got me convinced! No apologies required! Your linguistic abilities are rad. Rock on --- it would rock if you made more "accent" videos.

p..s your Hawaiian bus driver accent made me laugh, man! haha rad

  • Your texan accent sounded a bit like Tom Hanks in ... Forest Gump? umm,.. The Green Mile? Both maybe. :P

  • In some parts of PA its use guys or just use instead of yall like in VA

    and other southern states

  • Again, you're spectacular....we Pennsylvanians have the most "normal" way to speak than anywhere else in the U.S. (just not Pittsburgh, PA...that's a horrid accent)....near Harrisburg is the best...if you go to Lancaster (about 20 miles from Harrisburg) then you have the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish accent...try it....you'll do well....and you don't need to pay anyone to get a girl...you're adorable!!!

  • Your american accent is fantastic! If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were american!! There's a weird accent in Pennsylvania where they really emphasize the ends of questions...also they "warsh"(wash) their clothes and then "pit" (put) them away. And don't forget the french inspired cajun accents of New Orleans!!

  • Maybe, your american and you do a british accent very well :P

  • That's great, you got better at your american.

  • Ahaha that was an impressive American accent, it's good to know they aren't all gay mafia members =)

  • Dont apologize!!!!! Its just fun!!! keep doing it!

Im in Los Angeles. You wont get shot :)

    Love looking at your videos!!!

  • You got me. I was very intrigued by this. I am an accent-oholic and LOVE to listen to different accents & guess where they are from. Not only was your American accent extraordinary, but even your face expressions and body movements looked American. Very natural. Your Southern accent - that was inspired by the Alabama accent by the judge in My Cousin Vinny. Am I right? Even the tone of your voice sounded like him.

I'm going to have to watch more of your videos to hear more accents! - Mary

  • Even people in the states say that we in California all have that "valley girl/valley dude" accent. That is a "made up" accent from the "New Wave 80's". The true California accent is mostly neutral but gets "Twangy-er" as California transitions into Arizona,New Mexico on down into Texas. In fact, I've noticed the term "Y'all" is being said with ever increasing frequency by central and north californians. I don't know when this began, but I find it Comforting. So whether I'm in TX. or Ca.I'm home.

  • Your American accent was PERFECT!! I would never have known you were British. You should get into show biz. Really!! The only other person who does it as good as you is Gillian Anderson from X-Files. When in England she sounds genuinely English and visa versa when she's in the states. I believe she is originally from Illinois or somewhere in the mid west but lived many years in England as a youth, hence the accent. In one of your other vids you sounded a lot like Jack Nicholson. Great Job!

  • Okay, Dunk, where are you from?...hehehe, you are really good. How do you switch off the accents? You do it so well. I really, enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I am not sure what you do for a living, but you should get into entertainment. I really thing you will be excellent in that field.

  • schweet

you look a bit like panda

    that's cute

  • what you are speaking most of the time sounds like non-accented english (even though everyone thinks their english is without an accent) very west coast, spot on.

  • You are spot on! Good job! I wish I could switch as easily as you do. Keep up the good work.

  • You sound like a Californian! Well done. Not a trace of British accent, and not over compensating on the 'r' sound either. Cheers!

  • your american accent is on point, very nice.

  • 150 is not a bad price

  • Wow- are you sure you're not really an American? :) You pulled off the general accent effortlessly, really flattened out all your words.

  • Great job!

Thats how Real Americans sound while you were talking.

Alot of people think we have that Texas Cowboy Bullshit, but yeah, great job.

  • You did a really great job with the "general" midwest accent. A lot of people sound like that where I live, in the northeast. Of course, when you get into places like NYC, you hear such a variety of accents. Though in the NE, there are a few distinct accents like the Bosten accent and the New Jersey accent. In more rural places, they use the "general" accent, and tend to drop T's, or else make them sound like a D. Like others said, there is the southern gentleman, and southern redneck. Good job!

  • u did a haole hawaiian accent. try doing a native hawaiian accent

  • Will you do a vdideo on how the American accent sounds? because I'm American and I want to know what it sounds like if you know what I mean?
