@orfmor Telecasters can do pretty much anything,  however this one is built hot and has humbuckers, so its more geared for heavy music. You might want something with different pickups.

When it comes to cheap guitars, if you find one that play good off the rack but needs some find tuning via a qualified and competent luthier, you can save yourself a ton of money. Most expensive guitar have extra money put in to the looks. Yes, a lot have the extra craftsmanship but into fret clean up ect. But in the end the it all depends on how well the guitar plays and MOST importantly how well YOU play.

I like the way it looks.One of my guitars is a squire strat and it sounds decent plays nice. I would support guitars made closer to home though not for reasons of quality but for the fact that we are shipping our jobs away and we need more manufacturing jobs closer to home here. We can't all be working at wal-mart or else Squires and Epiphones will be the only stuff we can afford to buy lol

Good job, I might go with some dimarzio's, I believe this is the choice of the man himself, though I prefer to use my J5 for rock rather than metal. I do agree though, the guitar is the best feeling Fender I've played (and I've played a few). Nice work Squire!! Look forward to seeing your vid if you get round to it!

I'm not a big J5 fan and own some expensive Teles...this guiotar is worth the money for the neck alone!

Don't be put of by the squier label it's superb!

I changed the pick ups and the scratch plate but thats just my opinion.

Great guitar which competes with custom shop models!

I happened to have a couple of SD JB and TB4 spare.

I might even change them again for some dimarzio or even EMG's!

The other mod I made was to replace the cheap nut with a graphite one.

I put this guitar on par with thousand pound one now in terms of quality and this is from someone who owns some very nice instruments!

And if you want something great & underrated - get an old, beat up 1970's -80's used MiJ anything, not a freaking Squier. Chinese won't EVER compare to old Japanese. *And* you'll save several hundred in the process.

@josephvincentguitar You are right. I removed it and it was dead quiet, then I reinstalled it with some double sided tape so the pick guard is a hair off the body. FIXED! This guitar is still junk.

For what it's worth, I used to have one of these but got two different $2k handmade guitars. 2 weeks later and I'm selling both of 'em. I just bought another Squier J5 on ebay. Most people probably won't prefer this to a $2k guitar, but I do. I'll replace the pickups and change it to volume/tone, but that's it. Great guitar.

Squier doesn't make guitars. Fender owns the Squier brand and they are made in Asia to Fender's specs. Squier is to Fender what Epiphone is to Gibson. Lower cost alternatives to their more expensive American made models. I'm not a fan of John 5, but I recently bought a Squier J5 Tele and it's one heck of a guitar for the money. It's a little heavy, but it plays like a dream and sounds great. You don't have to be a fan of John 5 to appreciate what a fanstastic guitar this is.

But a masterbild or a elitist is next to or even over a Gibson. Also with the price. The sub-brand Squier is made by Fender to be a budget brand.

You must be very young and/or incredibley ignorant. Squier is a brand name, not a manufacturer. Their guitars are made in factories in China and Indonesia specifically for Fender who owns the Squier brand. Fender doesn't own these factories and thus does not manufacture them. Next time try and retain what you learn.

No Michau - Fender is the parent company and Squier is their cheap range model. There are many differences as well as price including materials made. This is the Squier J5 Telecaster® Guitar - and remember this is Fender's own YT channel. Besides I own both this and the more expensive Fender signature model Tele by J5.

If your going with Squire, test it out before you buy it. But you should probably do that with a Fender as well, just to be safe. They are great guitars, I highly reccomend one.

Actually newer versions of the Fender have the standard headstock as has this Squier. The original models of the J5 tele have the 12 string headstock - or paddle headstock as one person below me said. But as has been pointed out - this IS The Squier. I can tell just by the humbuckers and pickups. I own both the Fender Squier and Fender Tele version of this guitar.

What video are you watching because it certainly can't be this one. The headstock logo has been blurred but not enough to hide that is says Fender. You can easily see the the backwards "F" on the headstock as he is moving around. It's like one the show cops, they try to blur the faces but if they move around too much you see the faces sometimes. Watch the the vid in higher quality and you can see it says "Fender".
