  • Toujours excellent M. Léonard Cohen !

  • Toujours excellent M. Léonard Cohen !

  • @futurecatholic

He has the --vision--, just like Nostradamus! No other explanation.

  • This song is so powerful and prophetic. Love the lyrics: "dance whitey, dance!" LOL!

  • he omits "anal sex" from the song and it's a real bummer

  • Favorite song. I do prefer versions w/all black female back up vocalists. but this band nails this don't they? Drummers the s__t!

  • Leonard ¡¡FUCKING AMAZING!! Cohen.

  • plz, does anybody knows what he meant by "white man dancing..."

is it some one particular? THNX

  • @tanya4809 Just a guess: The white racist capitalist regime revelling in its vision of power...

  • @standingwest , thank you, it makes sense...

  • @tanya4809 You're welcome. It's always struck me how much this song feels like the Book of Revelations...

  • @standingwest absolutely... it struck me too how true his statements are.

  • @tanya4809 very prescient, indeed.

  • A gloomy warning of what's getting ready to come down

  • Leonard, you still do it for me with this one. you sooo deserve that standing ovation.

  • Love you Leonard

  • i love his voice its beautiful................

  • One of very very rare occasion that Leonard Cohen performs without his band - this is I guess the show's band (there's Leonard's violinist methinks), so that's why the performance has ups and down but it is amazing and energised!

  • @a1000kissesdeep If I recall correctly the house band on the first year of "Friday Night" had a fiddle player.

  • I would love to ing back up myself.

  • This video is so fantastic and it's just one of so many. I have no words to describe what Leonard has added to my life since I found him. thank you Leonard forever. Batman I so agree with you.

  • awesome

  • BUahah,. 1:58.. So umm.. LEonard decided that we sing this repent thing once more.. check the reactions of synths and ass player.. fun fun fun.. great live version. I would swet mah ass offff if playing in leo's band, never know what happens.

  • @ZZombyWooff lol thats true

  • When did the words 'anal sex' become verboten? It's a clinical term....Is it the image conjured by the words? Is the term seen as some 'frightening' promotion of non-procreative sex? Why allow the words "Charlie Manson" in the song, if we're so interested in protecting delicate sensibilities? Cohen 'sold out' agreeing to this kind of censorship....

  • I'd love to sing back up with him!

  • This is right before he went to live at Mt Baldy Zen Center. He says that he was drinking sometimes 3 bottles of red wine before and during performances, but I can't see that he's affected. A great performance from a man who says his life was in tatters at this point.

  • A really great live performance !

  • this man is the best!

  • A genius!!!!!

  • Matt Zimbel is the conga player

  • MoltenCoreMusic whos playing the congas in this song

  • Wish he didn't have to censor the lyrics or shorten the song... :(

  • he's awesome in the strictest context.

  • xD I am going to see him in two months!

  • truly a visionary song.

    frightening, but so very true.

  • things are going to slide...slide in all direction...i love this line....

  • This is a gem of a video!

  • Other than him changing the line "give me crack and anal sex" to "speed and careless sex" which I suppose he did for t.v. this is the best rendition I've heard of this prescient poem/song. Too bad though, because when he wrote it crack and aids seemed to be the modern plague. The latter still is unfortunately and there have also been two genocides in Africa (Rowanda & Sudan)since other than the one in Bosnia/Serbia, at the very time this was performed.

  • If God could sing he'd want to sound and be Leonard Cohen...or perhaps he is...hmmmmm.

  • @Batman10166 you're so right, somoetimes I go through the day, and suddenly realise I haven't listened to him, andI feel so happy as I put his music on. And I cry because I love his work and want to see him again. My favourite at the minute is Closing Time. my partner and I drive along in the car singing the words with him. he makes me so happy.

  • I would really like to find the version of closing time from this same tv show.

It was the best television performance ever

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm deeply bonded to the Jools Holland show version of this. It's leaner and cleaner. But this has some serious mojo.

  • the best. heard this song dozens of times and lines are still suddenly blazing into focus for me
