  • Thank the LORD for Archbishop Gomez. His first LA Religious Ed Congress Mass was MUCH more orthodox.

  • This is truly horrific. I'm glad that agent of hell Mahoney is gone!

  • @Gorbachenko Have you read psalms lately? "You have turned my mourning into dancing..." Psalm 30, David danced before the LORD, the Psalms teach to raise our hands (Psalm 63, which is part of the morning prayers in any traditional missal). Infact Psalm 150 states praising God with all kinds of intruments! We read also in Scripture teaches to worship God with a joyful heart, a joyful noise, and our bodies. What your problem is, is that YOU'RE CLOSED OFF TO THE HOLY SPIRIT! MAHONEY WAS BORN AGAIN!

  • @Menechem Mahoney was born of his father, Satan.

  • @Gorbachenko I WOULD'NT BE SPEAKING TOO LOUDLY IF I WERE YOU! BIBLICAL WORSHIP APPROVES OF DANCING, DRUMS, GUITARS, CLAPPING, SHOUTING (SHOUT FOR JOY IN PSALM 100), TRMPETS, TAMBOURENE, CYMBALS, ALL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS! YOU'RE NOTHING MOR THAN A PHARISEE! AS YESHUA TEACHES IN MATTHEW 16:1-12WARE OF THE LEAVE OF THE PHARISEES", YOU'RE THE EVIL ONE! WHO ARE TOU TO PUT GOD IN A BOX?!

  • @Menechem The one who shouldn't be speaking to loudly is you. You are obviously not a Roman Catholic, so you really have no say in how the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass should be performed and you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • This is liturgical abuse

  • @mbukukanyau YOU NEED TO BE OPEN TO THE SPIRIT! JUST BECAUSE YOU DO NOT LIKE SOMETHING DOES NOT MAKE IT WRONG! THE ETHIOPIANS DANCE AT THERE DIVINE LITURGIES, THEIR CHURCH IS OLDER THAN YOURS TOO!

  • @cunjoz, It is because of the Word of God, I left the church. Have you seen the Ethiopian DL, they dance, sing, and play drums (there're youtube videos on this). Go and reread the psalms, they talk about dancing, singing, raising ones hands in worship, and even clapping ones hands. Do not feed me catholic false teachings in regards to communion, they're not supported by scripture.

  • There is nothing wrong with a band, dancing, or raising ones hands during Church, need I remind you of what the Psalms teach? Why is it wrong of a band to be used during Mass, but not an orchestra? They are both reverencing God in different ways. You false judges, need to repent. This is such a beautiful worship service!

  • ayiyi! Could that incense bowl get any more pagan ritual looking? :/ How do the faithful stand 'worshiping' this way?

  • @paraisoat There is nothing wrong with a band, dancing, or raising ones hands during Church, need I remind you of what the Psalms teach? Why is it wrong of a band to be used during Mass, but not an orchestra? They are both reverencing God in different ways. You false judges, need to repent. This is such a beautiful worship service! You 'masses' are pagan to begin with! They're in direct violation to Hebrews 9-10!

  • ask bro eli soriano if this is biblical.

livestream (dot) com / elisoriano its live every wednesday 8pm EST you can ask him live!

and in his twitter twitter (dot) com / broelisoriano mcgi (dot) org

  • Anathema sit.

  • And I wonder why the Roman Catholic Church in America isn't taken seriously. Thanks to my wonderful LA Archdiocese. Abp. Gomez, please restore dignity to LA.

  • No wonder people are leaving the RC Church in droves. Those who want this kind of crap are better off going to a gay bar, at least there they can have a beer.

  • @prierias HA HA, that's probably the best post I have ever read!

  • I am ashamed of so called Catholic Christians writing such negative comments like those here. When we all get to Heaven I truly believe God will ask us why were we wasting time being so negative when we should have been out doing the work of the kingdom. If you don't care for a particular kind of music, just move on and keep your negative comments to yourself.

  • @Kaitipoo We are only put here on this earth for one purpose, to know, love and serve God. God will hold us accountable for all our action and inaction. Speaking out against this abomination is an act of a 'good and faithful servant'. How can we stand by while our Lord and His SACRED church are made a mockery of like what we see in this video. All Catholics who know better are appalled by this type of thing. I challenge you to pray more and study more about the true Catholic faith.

Ethiopian Orthodoxy/Catholicism sees no problem in dancing during the Divine Liturgy. You're in the wrong.

  • @Kaitipoo "When we all get to heaven..." That's exactly what we're talking about.

  • what the hell is this, it aint Holy mass thats for sure

  • shame of theMaster of Ceremonies. Every year, it's the same cirque du soleil show.

  • Well, now Mr. Roger Mahoney is retired and a new phoney "bishop" will take over and keep the same thing going... when are you "conservative" Catholics going to realize that the Novus Ordo is an abomination?

  • I like the deacon at around 3:51 that looked like he was making fun of it.

  • Do any of you who find this disgusting EVER ask why the Vatican doesn't excomunicate them. Also, this is NOT limited to LA , is world wide. Just because it hasn't gotten this far at your local NO service only means that you may only be one new "bishop" away.

  • Could somebody post a video response of Fr.Bings Adore or Belive youth congresses?

  • What is this?

  • I guess you can say the 8th sorrow of the Mother of God.

  • Here is the pagan world church.

Upp 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication... And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

  • Wow, I'm really thankful that I don't live in the Archdiocese of LA.

As much as a mockery as this is of the Holy Mass, I can't really get angry at those involved- I simply pity them because they probably don't realize what's going on given the sideshow going on. I hope they will recognize the true beauty of the Mass.

  • lets vomite!!!!!

  • im going to get a bucket, lets vomit together. this is a disgrace!

  • this is circus..

  • Wow, people in Catholic Poland would think this was some sort of pagan event.

As a a young American Catholic I am embarassed

  • :(((((((((((((((((((

  • dacatholicbandorgan, true there is a differnce. What you see in this video is a snippit of what the Liturgy was... cleaverly put together by the person who was present. I too was present. The words to the song were not " praise your neighbor'". We live in an area which is diverse in cultures. I'm white skinned but I"m what you would call a half breed. I live in a latino area which is surrounded by an african american area. Of course the music would reflect the cultures of the majority.

  • I recorded the entire Mass. Do a search and others have recorded the entire Mass too so I dont need to waste my time doing it again. The fullness of its abomination is quite easy to see.

  • @pacislander4life There is nothing wrong with a band, dancing, or raising ones hands during Church, need I remind you of what the Psalms teach? Why is it wrong of a band to be used during Mass, but not an orchestra? They are both reverencing God in different ways. You false judges, need to repent. This is such a beautiful worship service!

  • @IstamnehapiTeca I find it refreshing to see spirit filled worship in the RCC. My lifeteen priest became born again at 58, he wanted to leave the church, God told him to stay and bring the truth back to the Church (he like me was a Southern Baptist, he has now been promoted to glory and is at home with Jesus [he was also a stron believer in the 5 Solas of Luther]), he introduced the diocese to Biblical Orthodoxy (Giving the Bible final authority all things [2 Timothy 3:10-17], and joyful worship

  • "Come all you people and praise your Maker, come and parise your Lord."

    Its a Spiritual

  • which spirit?

  • @pacislander4life Have you read psalms lately? "You have turned my mourning into dancing..." What your problem is, is that YOU'RE CLOSED OFF TO THE HOLY SPIRIT!

  • Thier is a differance between keeping it young and altering the liturgy for ourselvs to where validity is a question altogether.

  • I was at this Liturgy. 12,000 teens from high schools and parish youth ministries. All cultures were present. The music was Valmar Jensen and the coro de Los Angeles. Our Latino Community is very spiritual and the clapping is a sign of unity. Isn't that what the processinal is about - UNITED through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our teens return to their home parishes saying: "Youth Day was great !" Pray for our teens who are struggling in their faith. " All are welcome in this place."

  • It would be interesting to see if they could write page about what they learned from the experience.

  • One frat party in college and those teens will lose their faith. This sounds very lovely. All hold hands and sing kumbya. This isn't Catholicism and presenting like it is does great damage to the evangelical mission of the Church.

  • Why does everything from California have to be so weird?

Eternal damnation unto all of these phonies!

  • There are some good bishops in California, such as in Sacramento and in Monterey. Not all California dioceses are wacky.

  • This has been going on for decades. Wake up Catholics and ask yourselves, why haven't the Vatican II "popes" done anything to stop it. John Paul II says that Luther was a great religious leader, he prayed in Synogogues, he prayed with schismatics and protestants. Ratzinger has followed in the same way. They are not Catholic popes but anti-popes.

  • You cannot call them anti-popes because they embrace people of other faiths. Christ worshiped in synagogues. He was Jewish. So its a great thing to learn about others and find truths in their faith which enlighten our faith.

  • Rick, Jesus established a NEW and eternal Covenant abolishing the old covenant so that all men could have access to salvation. He establish ONE Church and sent the Holy Spirit to guide it in ALL truth. Prior to Vatican II false ecumenism and indiffrentism were condemned by true Popes. You have been lied to young man. If you want to learn what the Catholic church truly taught on these issues look up encyclicals from Popes Leo XIII thru Pope Puis XII. I'll send you links if you'd like.

  • you cannot say Jesus established a NEW covenant---which directly means the old one ceases to exist. Why would a loving and compassionate God make a covenant and break it? He won't and he doesn't. Both covenants are important but as Catholics, the new and everlasting covenant that Jesus created is central for us.

Jesus accepted the pagan(Samaritan woman), as well as the hated tax collector (Matt). So its not "Catholic" to say liberals are right or conservatives are right.

  • Rick, are you aware that there were Popes and Councils that made Dogmatic statements before Vatican II? Do you at least agree that Dogma cannot change? Honestly, you need to read what the Church had always taught regarding the end of the Old Covenant. Either the post v-2 popes are wrong or ALL the previous Popes were.

  • @wjweigand --Check the New Testament where Jesus says that he has not come to abolish the old covenant, but to fulfill it.

  • Well, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles includes Hollywood, and they have apparently taken pity on those starving actors who couldn't get a job with the studios.

  • this is so sad. Thank goodness we know the outcome of the Church, despite all the garbage in it right now :)

  • @TheFreeHealer This is called letting the Holy Spirit work! You're sad!

  • This is not Catholic. I would be sickened to my stomach if I had to attend this service. The "cathedral" in Los Angeles should be burned to the ground.

  • This has been going on for decades now, don't you think if your so called "popes" had a problem with it, they would have ended it? To answer this, all one has to do is look at the videos of the current false popes visit to American and the WYD fiasco. No true Vicar of Christ would allow this to continue.

  • @Gorbachenko agreeing with the is liturgy is up to you. But saying that you want to burn a building where people worship is truly the greater sin regardless of their beliefs or practices

  • I wonder at times if people understand

This is a huge mass for religious ed. There may be different expressions culturally represented. Do you ever attend a mass in other countries that bring their culture to the mass? Hawaiian masses, African masses etc.

Sometimes you all have to lighten up. We have traditional mass, or observant NO masses that are very reverant.

But there are times it is acceptable to God to have a unique mass. Let it go, keep on track with your masses. God Bless

  • Did God tell you this personally? How do you determine what is acceptable to God?

I have been to that congress, and I was appalled by the number of abject heresies I heard proclaimed in the various workshops (especially those run by OCP composers).

The Mass is for the worship of God, not a showcase of cultures. This exhibition begs the question of who or what is the center of worship. If you want to experience unusual and different cultures, go hang out in a Wal-Mart.

  • what's funny about this is that the morons who support this joke say that this is what we youth want. Well if you wanna see where all the youth are, go to a Traditional Latin Mass, you'll at least find me and all my Catholic friends there.

  • Amen. I am a youth as well, and you wouldn't catch me or my friends dead at this service. Thank you for speaking for all young Christians.

  • When they talk about youth, they're referring to the Baby Boomers who remain at an emotional age of about 15 while their bodies clearly indicate the need for Metamucil.

  • @jinkasima

totaly agreed.... youth wants concrete truth in this relativized world...not some vague stuff..or this show...

..they made Mass a theater show...

Oh Whip of the Lord where are you!!!

  • @cunjoz There is nothing wrong with a band, dancing, or raising ones hands during Church, need I remind you of what the Psalms teach? Why is it wrong of a band to be used during Mass, but not an orchestra? They are both reverencing God in different ways. You false judges, need to repent. This is such a beautiful worship service! As a Former Roman Catholic, now a Born Again Christian, who went to many Youth Masses (Lifeteen affiliated and WYD 2002) I will challenge you on this. YOU ARE WRONG!

  • @Menechem

Mass itself is the highest praise to Holy Trinity and it is ultimate sacredness in the whole physical reality cuz there is God, Jesus our Lord and Saviour really, trully and substantially present under the appereance of the bread and wine. This congregation is celebrating itself and not God. Type in Tridentine Mass or Divine Liturgy ... see the splendour of the Lord.

And why are you a former Catholic if i may ask?

  • @cunjoz HOW IS RECRUCIFYING CHRIST JESUS, THE UT MOST FORM OF PRAISE? Have you read psalms lately? "You have turned my mourning into dancing..." Psalm 30, David danced, the Psalms teach to raise our hands(Psalm 63, which is part of the morning prayers in any traditional missal). Infact Psalm 150 states praising God with all kinds of intruments! We read also in Scripture teaches to worship God with a joyful heart, a joyful noise, and our bodies.YOU NEED TO BE OPEN TO THE SPIRIT!

  • @Menechem

Mass, although it is a real sacrifice, is not recrufixion of Jesus. In Mass once sacrificed Body and once spilled Blood are made present and presented to the Eternal Father. It is a re-presentation of the same bloody sacrifice of the Cross in an unbloody manner. Christ doesn't suffer again and anymore because He is glorified and resurrected. At Mass we are drawn from now into eternity at thee foot of the Cross by the power of Holy Spirit.

Who glorifies Father more - Jesus or we?

  • @cunjoz DO THIS IN REMEMBERANCE OF ME! Is exactly what Christ taught! John 6, the Last supper, and 1 Cor. 11, all teach this! I laugh at Catholics claiming that the Word of God is His Word, but in the words of man. In other words we are not to take God's infalible, inerrent word literally, but allegorically! I'm an Orthodox Christian, I take the Word of God for what it is, HIS WORD! John 6 is a metaphore of how a Christian needs to live, not to become cannibols!

  • @Menechem

First Christians were accused of cannibalism - how about symbolism...

  • @jinkasima There is nothing wrong with a band, dancing, or raising ones hands during Church, need I remind you of what the Psalms teach? Why is it wrong of a band to be used during Mass, but not an orchestra? They are both reverencing God in different ways. You false judges, need to repent. This is such a beautiful worship service! Go to a lifeteen Mass and you will see lots of youth there. The Ethiopian Orthodox/Catholic church has dancing during its Divine Liturgy, and they reverence God.

  • @jinkasima Have you read psalms lately? "You have turned my mourning into dancing..." Psalm 30, David danced before the LORD, the Psalms teach to raise our hands (Psalm 63, which is part of the morning prayers in any traditional missal). Infact Psalm 150 states praising God with all kinds of intruments! We read also in Scripture teaches to worship God with a joyful heart, a joyful noise, and our bodies. What your problem is, is that YOU'RE CLOSED OFF TO THE HOLY SPIRIT!

  • What the hell is this crap. This is utterly disgusting. How can the Bishop allow this crap to happen. I sure hope whoever was responsible for this has been excommunicated

  • The sad thing is that the archbishop is PRESIDING at this "Mass." Yes...it is a sick world we live in where even the Catholic Church does not reflect the glorious beauty characteristic of its true nature. God help us.

  • I was there. I was so shocked that I walked out. I was nauseated, literally!

  • Shame !!!

  • Is this worship or performance? Lord have mercy.

  • That is just a shame to the Catholic Church. It is just awful that the celebrant of that "show" is a bishop.

  • The whole thing made me rather ill. Kyrie eleison!

  • This is a scandal and total disgrace made worse by the fact that a Catholic Bishop is behind its creation. Shame on him and for the poor souls who have to suffer this.

  • very nice protestant Mass.well done to all concerned and especially to Vatican 11.

i really worry for our future when you see inappropiate Celebrations of Our Lord's Sacrifice like this.

by the Grace of God,at least Traditional Catholism is getting stronger.

    God Bless

  • That is not what the faith is only about, but if you find no joy in Christianity, then perhaps the wrong approach is being taken.

And how can you tell what I was taught from one comment?

  • 2010 can't come soon enough.

  • You mean Cardinal Mahoney's retirement?? Well, I gotta go along with you on that!!

  • We are supposed to feel good after the Liturgy. It is a celebration of the sacrifice on calvary.

  • nice concert......ooops!

  • And the Protestantization of Christ's Body marches on.

  • Questè una profanazione del Santo Sacrificio. E' una cosa scandalosa. Sarebbero questi i frutti del concilio vaticano II? Rediamo grazie a Dio per averci donato la Fraternità SS Pio X

  • I COMPARE THIS "MESS" TO SCRAMBLED EGGS.

    DISGUSTING!!

LONG LIFE TO THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS!

Ma-HONEY PLEASE GO TO THE NURSERY HOME!!!

  • Don't get me wrong, the Pauline Mass is perfectly valid. But this isn't a Pauline Mass, this isn't a Mass at all! And why arn't the people wearing shoes?

Mahoney is more concerned about building the ugliest churches in the world and coregoraphing "litrugical" dances than the Holy Mass. I bet he could of used the millions dollars he spent on that ulgy cathedral to build somthing that really glorifies God.

  • DBD1787 - you are living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, it is because of Masses like these that everyone left the Church. Your using the same brainwashed language that my teachers used back in the 70's.

  • Masses like these made people leave the church? Funny that the celebration in this video is packed. In my experience, most people prefer inclusive, welcoming liturgy.

Most people I talk much prefer an alive, celebratory liturgy as opposed to one they can not even understand. Vatican II called for active participation, not silent moaning and groaning on the sideline.

  • you haven't been out of LA yet have you? lol

  • Are you really a high-school student, DBD1787? You already sound like a middle-aged or older cleric, and not one of the best. If you do become a priest, I hope you remember that God's people are called to be holy, and not lulled into a false sense of comfort with their sins.

  • Well, Cardinal Mahony is my bishop. He believes that this is good stuff, and perhaps it is to some people; thankfully I can now worship at two to three traditional masses in his Archdiocese every week and have the composure to pray for him and many other causes while at mass. Cardinal Mahony has about three more years, because I believe bishops must retire at age 75. In the meantime, pray for him or whoever your bishop is, and show them respect, no matter how difficult at times.

  • Wow. People worshiping God and having a good time. Looks like the Latin Mass is dead.

Time for the conservatives to embrace change and stop being obstructive.

  • Let us instead embrace liturgical diversity such that communities of the faithful can have what works for them, and not have a situation in which *certain* people get ground under a bootheel because they wish to worship peacefully at the liturgy which was normative in the West for four centuries and had developed orgnically for at least a thousand years prior to that. Would that be fair to ask?

  • Liturgical "diversity" ?? What next? "Catholics for free choice" as a legit part of the Church?? KICK the HERETIC crypto-prots OUT, I say! Let´s be CATHOLIC! And DOWN with that ecumenism-sickness!

  • Yes, in the sense that the dictatorship of this stuff is no longer absolute. Now we can promote the traditional liturgy and move with great autonomy. Whether we do or not is up to us. Be Catholic, indeed, and worry less about kicking people out and slinging names. It is wholly unattractive and unbecoming. It will not promote the Faith or worthy liturgy. My disgust for so much of this has been replaced by hope that, little by little, we can put this in the past, like a bad dream!

  • Latin Mass is dead? Perhaps you ought to open your eyes and see the documents that the Vatican is putting out... The only thing that is really dying is American liberal Catholicism.

  • Yes. The conservatives can scream and kick online about how they are reviving the middle ages, but in reality, a new and more welcoming church is right over the hill. We just need to get the new generation to complete the final push.

  • The irony is that young people are filling the pews of the traditional mass, the eternal mass is attracting more and more people after the mess caused by V II. Thanks, Holy Father for the Summorum Pontificum and let the pseudo-catholic liberals cook in their own juices. Ad majorem Dei gloria!!!

  • I am a young person. I am still in high school, and am discerning the priesthood.

Most young Catholics are liberal, they are just so disgusted with careerists and hypocrites, they do not attend the Eucharist anymore, sadly. It is our job to bring them back.

However, I do think that traditionalists should have the right to use the old liturgy.

  • Yeah! Pseudo-catholics have so many protestant churches to choose from, that I do not see a issue in making the Holy Catholic church one more of the bunch. It is THE church. I pray you make a good priest, but not homosexual, not a sleazy and traitor or Judas priest. Pax et Bonum.

  • Amen, Xipe! VERY true! Let the "catholics for free choice" abort themselves out of existence.

  • hahaha... "new generation"? You mean the generation of Cards. Mahoney? Küng? Schillebeeckx? The morons that got the whole disgusting "kumbayah" idiocy started? Laughable! They are luckily DYING OUT... not nearly soon enough, though. New and more welcoming... yeah, right. As new as last-years fashion, and as welcoming as that terrible abuse of architecture we see in that video. BRECH!

  • Very Christian.

  • The ones "out of tune" are the last few surviving dinosaurs of sixties-fashion... i.e. people like Mahoney.

  • Parang El Shaddai Ang Ginagawa Nilang Misa...Dapat, Mag-Implement Ng Tridentine Mass.

  • Yes, I agree... but that's not going to happen at that religious education congress...

  • Oh my goodness!!! The Novus Ordo Mass looks like a concert!!! Then I see Cardinal Machony??! Oh wow! I used to be Protestant and this reminds me of my Protestant Churches, no kidding! Oh wow, I am shocked! I am so HAPPY to be a Traditionalist!! I don't have to deal with this mockery!!! Yes I agree Liberalism is a sin!!! Thanks for showing this video!!!

  • Do you seriously think that every Novus Ordo is celebrated this way? The Vatican has condemned liturgical dance and vulgar music. Cardinal Mahoney is acting in defiance of the GIRM, not to mention the Vatican II Constitution on the Liturgy.

Get the facts from something OTHER than the SSPX Cliffs Notes.

  • I am not aware of the SSPX publishing Cliff's notes... and besides, you don't need to be SSPX to critique poorly celebrated Novus Ordo Masses.

  • I was speaking metaphorically about the Cliff's Notes: groups like the SSPX tend to not provide the whole story on certain matters (like the so-called "Ottaviani Intervention").

  • Have you read the Ottaviani Intervention... it raises some very important points... points which have been addressed to some degree...but the fact that the New Mass had so many problems right off the bad was scary.

  • how is this music 'vulgar'...they are all songs of praise and gathering simply in other languages and musical genres than the tradition Western Hymn...if anything, these are more inline than many parish selections of music as they respond to the council's call for inculturation of the liturgy and use of the vernacular

  • hmmm... can you quote the council document which says that, I mean the actual text which asked for inculturation and vernacularization?

  • well here goes attempt 5 at posting a response since someone keeps deleting mine

Here are the paragraph citations from THE CONSTITUTION

ON THE SACRED LITURGY (SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM), SOLEMNLY PROMULGATED BY HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL VI ON DECEMBER 4, 1963

    Use of the vernacular: 36.2, 36.3, 36.4, 63, 54, 76, 78,

    Inculturation: 37, 38, 39, 40

  • My dear friend: I utterly condemn schismatic movements as well as overly vociferous polemics (regarding the rite of mass) from no matter how legit a quarter. But I must say that the manner in which the NO is celebrated in most (virtually all) places most of the time is rather dreadful. It is uninspiring; it does not teach what we Catholics hold about the Eucharist in a practical and coherent manner; it has effectlivly chiseled away at the faith and zeal of Catholics for decades. (cont.)

  • where is it that this shining example of the NO is celebrated? I live is one of the most densely populated areas of the U.S., where Catholic churches abound, and I can readily think of only one Church which celebrates a Latin NO, one Sunday a month (naturally this is also at a Church and by an order which took the Motu Proprio running, which offers confessions constantly, which is a bastion of sound preaching, etc.). In other words, the more you promote the old mass (cont.)

  • (in fidelity to the Church, of course) the more you promote reverent NO masses, sound catachesis, vocations, strong families, devotions, etc. Prominant "conservative" movements who despite their otherwise wonderful apostolates (EWTN, Catholic Answers, etc.) to their discredit used to generally ignore proponents of the traditional mass except for an occassional chastisement or condemnation have jumped on board now that the tide turned with the Motu Proprio. (cont)

  • (It is too bad that these folks through their media outlets could not have lent a helping hand toward the legitimate and loyal traditional movement back in the '90s, but water on the bridge, I suppose!) The point is, "conservatives" can now come out of the closet and say they love the traditional mass; no, no, there is no longer a need to preseve your fragile reputation by scapegoating trads and professing the greatness of the NO! We can be one people now. It is something akin to the (cont)

  • FBI and the CIA communicating with each other. Now it is okay to love the old mass, attend it, ask for it, wish to celebrate it if you are a priest. If you don't believe Pope Benedict, then perhaps you will believe Mother Angelica, Fr. Fessio, Mr. Keating! Now that a reconciliation has been forged between trads and conservatives, let us at this point give a united front to the barbarians at the gate (and in the sanctuary). We already wasted three decades- it's time now!

  • Perhaps those "conservative movements" like tend to ignore proponents of the traditional Mass because many of them, like you, rant through multiple and tangential posts about how bad the NO is celebrated. Even if the NO were celebrated in Latin, ad orientem, with the holiest priest, the best homiletics, and the finest chant choir, you would probably find fault with something.

  • That incense ritual is not Catholic but pagan, inspired by Wiccan rituals involving offerings to the four cardinal directions (they, in turn, claim it is Native American). I attended that congress a few years ago and I heard abject heresies and near-blasphemies coming from the mouths of many speakers, particularly from OCP's liturgical music composers.

  • perhaps you should have documented them word for word and exposed it.

  • well Christmas is celebrated on a pagan holiday. did you know that? that is not a sin. the fact that we are celebrating the birth of Christ nulls the fact that it has been a pagan celebration.

  • Christmas overrode a pagan holiday and Christianized it by the legitimate authority of the Church. CTA is doing the opposite, trying to paganise Christian traditions with no authority whatsoever.

  • Not only that, American liturgists try to imitate Catholic liturgies as done in Africa, but w/o the traditionalism as done in Africa (i.e., the uses of Latin, Gregorian Chant, ancient vestments, etc.). I attended the Mass more b/c it's a spectacle than a liturgy. I was appalled that they used glass chalices (against the laws of the Church), used extra-ordinary ministers of the Eucharist (when they had hundreds of bishops, priests, & deacons)among other abuses.

  • This is a mass? You're kidding...right?

  • Well... to be quite honest, the consecration was valid, and so, it is a Mass. Was it a Mass celebrated with dignity and solemnity? I have seen Protestants with more reverence, much more.

    -LG

  • if you have more videos from congress add them. i was one of the people who setup masses there.

  • By "set up" you mean, the construction crew? or directed the Mass? Unfortunately, I did not post this video in support of the Masses at Congress. But, I leave interpretation to the viewer.

    God Bless,

    Laurence

  • By setup I mean directing the mass, setting out the wine, hosts, chalices, cups, etc.

  • If I may ask, if you were to described in a few words what you think the purpose of Mass is, what would you say?

  • There is a two-fold purpose of mass: To hear the Word of God in Community, and to witness the sacrifice Christ made for us in the Litury of the Eucharist and by receiving the Precious Body and Blood of Christ.

  • Cardinal Mahoney is running a circus! LIBERALISM IS A SIN!!!!!

Don't fret to hard, he's a short timer! soon headed to an obscure job somewhere far away from Los Angeles!!! Praise God!!!

  • Liberalism is a political term. You're either Catholic or not Catholic. ;)

  • Liberalism IS a sin! It is not a political term it takes its root in a false conception of the nature of the act of faith. The Liberal Catholic assumes as the formal motive of the act of faith, not the infallible authority of God revealing supernatural truth, but his own reason deigning to accept as true what appears rational to him according to the appreciation and measure of his own individual judgement. He subjects God's authority to the scrutiny of his reason, and not the other way around.

  • It's a nice event honestly... but not for a mass I think.. bcoz this looks like a religious show, not 100% a mass.. or a mass with religious show mixed together.. which we should avoid. Because a mass shouldn't include any kind of show.

Different case if it's inculturation, but this doesn't look like an inculturation.

  • I personally dont think it should be a mass. The music is well done and the performance spectacle is very nice but it is not appropriate as a mass

  • another Liturgical abuse and the bishops themselves seems to be enjoying.

  • whats this "come and praise your neighbor" i hear in the song at 2:44?? - thats so wrong on so many levels *sigh*

  • I believe its "come and praise your maker"

its an old Swahili song of faith.

  • Thank you - that definately makes more sense

  • Your very welcome,

the song their singing.. its an arrangement of 4 separate songs, Uyai Mose, Alabare, Pleny' Good Room, and All Are Welcome.

Uyai Mose is a favorite of mine.

Im a local choir director in Long Beach for my church.

    (yes its catholic [=)

  • This is a mass??? - So surprised California has not broken off into the ocean yet.
