  • My highest praise is when I call an artist a great teacher, and M. Gedda is the greatest of all teachers. His musicianship, inventive phrasing, and pure emotion put him on the tenor throne in Mt. Olympus, in my opinion.

  • @infrantasi

    :-)

  • Many thanks, dear Janja. A real pleasure to hear this beautiful aria sung with

    talent and convincing emotion!

  • @2:07 looks like popular depictions of the Virgin Mary...I know it's just one of the characters, but I wonder if Rimsky-Korsakov intended this in some way...

  • Beautiful singing and video.

  • How beautiful!

  • Beautifully music, beautiful voice! It's everything it should be. I haven't heard much of Gedda but will look into it now. Thanks muchly! ;- )

  • I'm sorry but this is undoubtedly the best existing version, with all due respect to kozlovsky and co. this is just unbelievable.

  • @burgul

I agree, but why should you be sorry?

  • @Herur22 because he's not really russian! maybe some russians will be pissed off.

How is is possible that this man excels in every possible repertoire in every possible language?

  • @burgul

    Oh, I see.

  • @Herur22 His mother was Russian, and so Russian is not foreign to him.

  • @chaiter1

His biologic mother was Swedish and father half-Russian. But you're right, Russian was not foreign to him because he lived with his adoptive mother (his half-Swedish aunt) and his adoptive father, who was Russian. So they spoke Russian at home.

  • @burgul Enchanting, magical! Don't worry, maybe some Russians will be pissed off, but not all:-). I'm Russian but I agree with you that it's the best version and am not pissed off because of it:-). Thanks Janja for posting.

  • @burgul Because he was the greatest lyric tenor who ever lived.

  • @burgul And have you listened to the Lemeshev version? Is it him you mentioned as co.?

Then you must really be sorry...

  • This it beautiful and far preferable to the effortful versions of the Russian colleagues of present.

This is lyrical belcanto singing of highest order.

  • @chaiter1

Gedda never disappoints! I use his renditions (especially Russian) as singing lessos!

  • Bravo! Do you have the lyrics for this, dear friend? =D

  • Hi Aaron!

I put the text on the side bar, together with the transliteration. The pronuciation is of course a little different.

  • Thanks! How could I miss that? =D

  • You didn't. I put it on after you asked

  • Whew! Well thank you again! I found the whole score on a Russian website, so after I play the accompaniment I can start working on it!

  • Wunderschone Videobilder.
