how to borrow library books for your Kobo

Can you, if you have wi-fi, just get the book from your library by downloading it on the Kobo (without having to link up to a computer)?

I havent got a Kobo yet so I dont know how it works exactly.

@chancat1999 You can do this with the iPad, I just showed my dad how to do this. You will need the overdrive media console app to avoid needing Digital Editions on your computer. Any device that lets you download the free app and works with epub or pdf you can do it without linking to a computer. I don't believe any of the Kobos have this ability yet.

I am in the process of choosing between Kindle and Kobo. Your video has made the choice easier (except for the HST issue). Question: is there an option for extending the borrowing period after your 3 weeks is up?)

@ejypjy If no one else has a hold on the book you can download it again right away, but it's not officially a renewal, at least not in my system.

@SammyHeredia I believe so, although I haven't tried it yet myself. As long as it takes epub or pdf the books from my library will work- the only difference from this video would be how you plug it in to your computer.

I figured it out re my post below. If Kobo reader doesn't show up in your list In ADE, plug in your Kobo,have it set to manage files then go to Digital editions and push CTRL, SHIFT, E. It may ask you to authorize, it didn't for me. Unplug your Kobo and then plug in back and voila. Remember to have you Kobo plugged in when your access ADE or it won't show up. Hope this helps. I got a library book out today and it worked ......YAY.

I was just about to ask, what happens, after the 7 days, but you answered it. I was about to say, how will it delete after 7 days on your kobo... or does it? Or does it become inaccessible? I'm just carious. I never heard of doing this. Thanks for this information.

@DJMONKAY it always becomes inaccessible off your computer, but sometimes if you don't sync your Kobo or whatever you're using, it doesn't delete off your portable device. The library is under the assumption that you will not have it after this time and lends a digital copy to someone else. If you notice it hasn't been removed automatically after it says "expired" in digital editions you are obligated under copyright law to delete it yourself. You're welcome.
