That war removed one of the biggest despots in the history of the world yes it did. But it also resulted a country without peace, without democracy and without hope. The US Government just gave the land away to fundementalists who have no idea what a democracy is, while the US troops is pulling back, not doing and never done anything good for the people who is left.

Saddam Hussein murdered hundreds of thousands of people yes. And so did George W. Bush.

The leaders are not neccessarily representative of the people as a whole. Oftentimes its quite the contrary. He's speaking for the Iraqis who are more or less forced into war, not neccessarily the leaders, past or present. Also, Hussein was a scapegoat. He murdered, but the U.S. gave him the weapons to do so, and then killed him, selling him off as a scapegoat.

You could say the same thing about the lyrics, but you're not complaining about them. The medium is essentially irrelevant. Anyway, I think he was just expanding on the previous idea. And of course it was at least somewhat rehearsed, he wanted to be very sure of the points he was putting across, he's smart enough to know his words are affecting peoples atttitudes, and I think he's right to be careful about that.
