Dialogue is always a good way to prevent escalation and conflict. But unfortunately, talking with cops is pretty pointless to my experience so far. They only talk like they are robots, they don't understand. Best not to get caught by them in the first place. (Which, with cops like those in the video, shouldn't be too hard, eh? ;-))
This happened to a friend of mine at the university I go to... Kinda funny, a month after it happened a parkour club was started and we PK all over the place all the time now.
It is in every traceur/freerunner's interests to keep their training are in as good condition as possible. VT campus cops are totally cool with PK as long as you stay away from buildings where the management has had problems with you before. If these guys got a call their jerkiness is understandable but if they are just like Hey skinny people lets go f them up thats bull.
I don't want to offend anyone but how do American cops get fat? Here in Australia if you drop below the required fitness level you are suspended until you get back into shape.

One cop that talked to us said that if you ran up the wall in the same spot over and over again it would wear down the wall.... OMFG it's a freaking concrete wall... My rubber shoes are gonna do jack squat to this wall.... He was clearly only telling us to stop because he had to. He even told us he thought it was cool... RIDICULOUS

You know, the Police should implement some type of Parkour discipline and training program for "officers-in-training." Parkour would really help, especially when in a chase... That's very true! I work for student patrol and we don't really care if people do parkour. the chief of police is actually a real cool guy and will listen to anyone who has issues.... but to get permission to do this, they might be required to be a student.

my team had this problem in Atlanta. A group of local cops was trying to tell us training on the public square was trespassing on "City of Atlanta Property" (aka public property.) all six of us marched up to the police station and filed a complaint. Within the hour, one of the offending cops was being yelled at and made to do a lot of paperwork, and the other cops cleared out of the square. No problems since ;) taking it to the top helps, because city cops will just totally lie. hope i helped

Wow, for the record, I don't think there is a law that you are breaking by being there. I wouldn't test limits (because any doubt goes to the officer at court, lets face it, we are just "crazy kids" to them) but if it is evident that he has no grounds then you have nothing to fear from appearing in court. The only thing though is using loophole to go against an officer is a good way to get loopholes closed...

@pkLipe It doesn't matter if the police were wrong about it being against the law. The point still stands that we need to be respectful. Calling them "fat", "pig", "f-in cops", "dumb", "bastards" etc.. will not fix the problem it will just make people think worse of us. Also last time I checked they were cited for trespassing which is illegal.Perhaps some professor complained to someone that told the cops the university didn't want them there and getting rid of trespassers is there job.
We had an accident happen where one of our group members (before I was here) got drunk, climbed up a radio tower, and jumped off. He was NOT doing parkour, just being drunk. The cops didn't seem to care, so the group was banned.
We had to go through a lot with the university when I got there to get it back. It's all about educating people (the cops, the school, the community).
you guys should have a word with UTD themselves, and maybe sign something to say you won't take out a lawsuit against them if you get injured etc. if theyre willing to cooperate that is.
We as a community should get together to discuss the situation with UTD. The cops were very nice compared to what could have happened. One of them said, that they had already given them warnings to not show up. Whether you guys like it or not, their activity and our activity should not be the concern of administration on campus. Let us do what we can to fix the issue rather then complain.
We had to start a parkour club at UNLV to hold Jams. I don't get stopped much by myself unless I'm filming a lot. One day parkour will be banned everywhere just like wheeled devices because people are ignorant so keep spreading the positive message of parkour and leave when they ask you too, just come back later until they cit you for trespassing, bastards!
parkour aint dead here just yet, i may be a freshman at UTD but i aint quiting wat i love to do. Hopefully soon ill be in contact with the person n charge of sports and be able to actually start a parkour club here, it be better for the students who are actually interested in it to be able to practice within campus and not be afraid of cops. you guys have done much to inspire me and my friends, i look forward to meeting you all one day, ive met/trained with Andrew so maybe that day will be soon
@jjorellfr Guys always be respectful. I can tell from a couple of these comment that we still have some young traceurs in our scene that are not mature minded. Parkour CAN go a different direction than skateboarding. I encourage Thomas and his bro to look into what they can do to continue their training. There is always a way as long as you are respectful and innovative. However ignorance, profanity, and anger always breed themselves and never a positive outcome.

Wow, for the record, I don't think there is a law that you are breaking by being there. I wouldn't test limits (because any doubt goes to the officer at court, lets face it, we are just "crazy kids" to them) but if it is evident that he has no grounds then you have nothing to fear from appearing in court. The only thing though is using loophole to go against an officer is a good way to get loopholes closed...

Hey all this F the police crap is what we don't want. We want to be a respectful community so we can get respect. All those comments do is make us look like delinquent adrenaline junkies. Show some respect. All of these people are just trying to do their job and they sacrifice something because of it.

@pkLipe It doesn't matter if the police were wrong about it being against the law. The point still stands that we need to be respectful. Calling them "fat", "pig", "f-in cops", "dumb", "bastards" etc.. will not fix the problem it will just make people think worse of us. Also last time I checked they were cited for trespassing which is illegal.Perhaps some professor complained to someone that told the cops the university didn't want them there and getting rid of trespassers is there job.

Here at UIUC, we have to have a school club.
We had an accident happen where one of our group members (before I was here) got drunk, climbed up a radio tower, and jumped off. He was NOT doing parkour, just being drunk. The cops didn't seem to care, so the group was banned.
We had to go through a lot with the university when I got there to get it back. It's all about educating people (the cops, the school, the community).

We as a community should get together to discuss the situation with UTD. The cops were very nice compared to what could have happened. One of them said, that they had already given them warnings to not show up. Whether you guys like it or not, their activity and our activity should not be the concern of administration on campus. Let us do what we can to fix the issue rather then complain.

We had to start a parkour club at UNLV to hold Jams. I don't get stopped much by myself unless I'm filming a lot. One day parkour will be banned everywhere just like wheeled devices because people are ignorant so keep spreading the positive message of parkour and leave when they ask you too, just come back later until they cit you for trespassing, bastards!

parkour aint dead here just yet, i may be a freshman at UTD but i aint quiting wat i love to do. Hopefully soon ill be in contact with the person n charge of sports and be able to actually start a parkour club here, it be better for the students who are actually interested in it to be able to practice within campus and not be afraid of cops. you guys have done much to inspire me and my friends, i look forward to meeting you all one day, ive met/trained with Andrew so maybe that day will be soon

@jjorellfr Guys always be respectful. I can tell from a couple of these comment that we still have some young traceurs in our scene that are not mature minded. Parkour CAN go a different direction than skateboarding. I encourage Thomas and his bro to look into what they can do to continue their training. There is always a way as long as you are respectful and innovative. However ignorance, profanity, and anger always breed themselves and never a positive outcome.
