It might not be the hardest of the transcendental Etudes. Maybe even one of the easier ones (with Harmonies Du Soir). But it is one of the most beautiful ones. I like the tempo that you chose. I like your power and your sound. GREAT performance. I would never tire of hearing you play.
I think the only problem you seem to have with left hand strength is that the strength isn't going where it should be: Down.
You're lifting the fingers in the left hand a little high. It's VERY important to keep them fairly level. It helps to develop "sweeping" motion of the wrist to cover the difficult arpeggios presented for the left hand (at 0:53, for example). It prevents tension and influences fluid motion and dynamics. [Continued on next comment]
[Continued] Although automatically clearing your fingers from the keys to prevent clutter is inevitable, it actually hinders speed and accuracy. Making a video like this is VERY effective for not only getting advice from other pianists, but also for improving your technique by reviewing the video yourself.
Overall, this performance was very accurate. You seem to understand the piece very well and its demands in accordance to the rest of the Transcendental Etudes. [Continued on next comment]
It is supposed to be (and I think it is) one of the easier transcendental etudes - especially so if you have a strong left hand (which I don't). It doesn't require as much dexterity as, say, Feux Follets and Chasse Neige; as much strength and agility as Mazeppa; and as much refined temperament as Ricordanza and Harmonies du Soir.
You played this demanding work with a very secure technique (which is the main prerequisite of playing a virtuoso Etude), bringing out the musical and not bombastic qualities of this piece. The soft section was poetic. The coda had the required ferocity. I really enjoyed this performance. I'm currently struggling with a Liszt piece-would love to have your technique!
Thanks! But I don't see why you'd envy my 'technique' (which really could be a lot better here too, in hindsight), given what you are capable of yourself...
Oh yeah, your technique seems ready to add fury to the performance. I can tell from your general clarity throughout the piece and your octave timing at Stretto.
This is amazing! How long have you been playing? I'm learning this etude too right now but I can't hit the notes as easily you did. I realized that I'm not ready to go at a tempo that goes under 5 minutes so I gotta slow down and fix the technical issues.
...something like 14 years now. Yes it's quite a tricky etude to play accurately - I did about 4:30 in the latest recording but it's still too rife with wrong notes to my liking - just like this one :s
That was excellent!!!! I hope you post more of his etudes soon(that is if you know more)! I hope you can improve on this also(more FURY like you said.
I liked this "safe" performance - one can actually hear all the notes!!!

[Continued] I wouldn't say this is the easiest of the set, but it certainly is one of the more popular. I really enjoy playing it, myself.
Keep up the good work! [Done.]

Really good :D I'm studying this piece, and it's not so difficult but, I really don't understand how to add the right hand in some passages =(
Nicely Done :D

Thank you =] yes I actually still find the right hand a bit awkward in certain places =[

I am sure this is a very good performance, but the sound level is set too low - something to consider for next time!
