I think goalies should be fair game like in the old days, in or outside of the crease. 20 years ago, when a goalie left his crease, it was like a feeding frenzy, opposing players would skate at him full speed, and try to end his career, if not his life. Now, you can't even look cross-eyed at a goaltender without being penalized.
late in his career? Sure, but he was 30 years old, and far from over the hill. The goalie took a dive. How does getting your mask tapped by a stick hurt? He went down like he got shot. I'm not defending Nilan, but lets not make this into a cheap shot that hurt someone.
It was'nt that bad, I agree with you... And I was just pointing out that Nilan came to the Rangers in 1988 and was on the down side of his fighting days by then, not that he did'nt still beat some ass as a Blueshirt but his best days were clearly with Montreal in the early/mid 80s. He retired in help me, 1991?

Yeah, right...how many goalies 20 years ago had their careers ended by being run after they left the crease?
And, Nilan chopped the goalie across the face mask with his stick, then didn't have the guts to face up for his actions (read: fight). Real class.
