  • There's alot of talent today, it seems. And with youtubes, it is easy to hear it.

But this performance of the romance no. 2 is very special!

I feel that i personally have the best feeling in the g major one,

and i would be very interested how YOU do it. I got my inspiration of it from Yehudi Menuhin, but after many years, i feel i have it improved, and, coming from my own heart too.

It is very nice of you to be on youtubes and answer things!!

  • So much of Beethoven's music gives off the feeling of romance. But it is the artist's ability to capture this that set's the music apart. You do this very well. And while I am in love with the piano, your violin is so refreshing. Thank you.

  • Hello An with your beautiful violin journeys ! :) I have just started my lessons in the violin and I listen your melodies everyday !! so relaxing and so beautiful like you are !! :) regards from Greece !

  • Beautiful interpretation...this is the first time I've heard you play...and it was a VERY pleasant experience. Kudos for posting the musical notes for the benefit of the aspiring players and for those learning about classical music. Any plans to come to Shanghai in the near future? We have a wonderful orchestra here.

  • There is nothing which puts me higher in the clouds than a wonderfully played violin.

  • Hello Miss Ann Fontanella, your playing just ....... literally gave me feelings of romance and sadness then confusion you truly played gracefully. Your playing made want to burst into tears, beautiful.I love to watch this over and over again. Though I may not have as deep musical inclination as you I find you work intensely fascinating.Sincerely, a fellow cellist/violinist.

  • Dear Ann

I was wondering where I can download this beautifull piece of music, I would very much like to use it at my wedding in less than 2 weeks.

    Kind Regards

  • when i saw the video i thought "oh, it's only a pretty face who plays violin" i was so wrong. this expressivity is only acquired by the masters like you.

i've been playing piano for 11 years and hear this piece just make me realize that I have to practice much more

  • You are incredibly, incredibly talented. Truly inspiring and beautiful.

  • With the wonderfully romantic execution of this, the most tender of Beethoven's work, you could most certainly make any man fall in love!

  • Simply beautiful. Thank you.

  • way to copy heiftz's picture...jk but no offense this is a little slow side

  • beautiful....just listening to this has inspired me to want to start taking violin lessons.

  • @fthcbed I think that Fur Elise fits that description better. Especially by the way they found it.

  • Oh miss Fontanella, your ability for this kind of loving music amazes me! I am 13 years old, and I am in my fourth year of playing my violin. And I hope one day I will be as good as you or somewhat the same. And you are very beautiful. And bravo, I am in love with this particular music piece you chose to record. I hear it everyday while I am working on homework and such. It helps me concentrate and slowly relaxes me. Again, bravo for your talents<3

  • @LuviaGonzalez You are very sweet!! Congrats on 4 years playing, that takes dedication :). Keep practicing!

  • This is very beautiful. Magnificent. I'm 14 and really hope to start learning violin soon. I'd love to be as good as you one day.

  • @Annfontanella: I have a quick question, I'm a beginning Violinist and I'm going to start work soon so I can save up for some Violin lessons. Well back to the question, I was wondering if you can give me some guidelines for what to look for in a Teacher to assess if they're a "good" Violin Teacher or not? P.S I would love some tips on playing without a Teacher so I don't develope any nasty technique, because it's going to be awhile. I hope this isn't too much to ask from you, thank you.

  • @nile012 , in terms of a teacher, find one that emphasizes good form. So important for when you are advancing. It is frustrating at first, but it is worth it. On your own, practice in front a mirror. Make sure you can support the violin without your hand and you aren't tensing your shoulders!

  • fuck she is beautiful and amazing at her music wow

  • This is terrific! There is a Violinist that plays for Yanni. He take his violin and turnes it into something alive and beautyful, projecting his sound better than anyone I,ve heard. Yanni video"The storm" is very nice if You like to listen.

  • hasta senti que estaba perdido en una mansion inmensa con piso de ajedrez con grandes habiaciones y un jardin bien bonito con una fuente y peces de colores en la fuente xD

  • Fantastic. I've also appreciated very much the interesting and useful comments.

  • Oh I Just Love it You Are Amazing :)

  • Very nice work

  • This is amazing work! You should be proud of yourself.

  • i don't wanna ruin the mood with chauvinistic comments and whatnot, but holy hell she's beautiful.

of course, she's also a fantastic musician. wonderful music!

  • @Skinnydrumma , LOL, thanks very much!

  • @Skinnydrumma That's not chauvinistic, saying "I wanna fuck the bloody shit out of her" would be chauvinistic

  • @Skinnydrumma And you're right, she's a fantastic musician and beautiful person.

  • много добро изпълнение.романса е прекрасен но и цигулката е великолепна...

  • This is so beautiful. :) Ann, you are amazing!!! I only know one very good artist herself, Emily Bear, a very young pianist, and just like her, you have a passion for music. It's truly amazing what people make of the things they love. I play the clarinet, guitar, and used to play piano. I'm 12 and I want to start violin before I get older so it's easier to adapt. Do you have any advice?

  • @SexySofiaAnn1 , Focus on your form to start! Form is everything because if you are supporting your violin with your hand rather than having it held steady, it will be harder to play in tune or shift or even have good control of your bow. Most of all, though, always enjoy! I play violin every day because I love it and it moves me! :)

  • Lindo :D

  • waah!..peaceful ^^..but i like exciting and dangerous music too :p..but i think what i listen to doesn't even have a violin ^^"..just passing by.. beautiful music!(the girl too by the way :$)

  • I really like Ann. She kinda looks like Feebs from friends, except she's a proffessional violinist. Not sure why i am in trance by her, maybe if she plays "Smelly Cat" on the violin i will give her a call. j/k. She's Precission at best. LMAO. We luv you Ann. Just had to mention how attractive your commitment is, as in my studies i find some pieces have areas of very cumbersome moments. Just outstanding perseverence.

  • @LendMeYourHand , Thank you :). It's easy to persevere when you love what you do! :)

  • Dear Ann, I wanted to thank you for putting together such a wonderfully agonized peace of music. The comments made throw out the video made it very enjoyable to listen to. Not being musically trained in any form it made what I was hearing come to life in a hole new since. Thank you again for playing so beautifully. I do have a question, how long have you been playing? :)

  • Ann

You play like the wind! from a gentle soothing breeze to the gusto of a raging storm. Such a pleasure listening to your extraordinary virtuosity! Enrico Altavilla

  • finally....a person who UNDERSTANDS the music, not just the notes and expressions written on it.

  • @thepromman , Thank you!!!

  • This is just study music for me cause it lets me think better and i study a lot ;)

  • si confieso y gracias a dios que ultimamente tanto lo personal como lo profesional me van bien , pero lo que mas me hubiera gustado es tu cariño, pero sé en la vida no siempre se puede obtener todo ,

  • Absolutely superb thank you

  • Its hard to decide. Is the music more beautiful than the violinist?

  • I almost pressed thumbs up but then I remembered that it was Beethoven.

  • ann is it possible to vibrate an open string? like can you vibrate the a string

  • Your an amazing musician. Keep it up please!

  • wow you have such a wonderful talent i hope you never ever give up on your music you sound is so rich and perfect you can tell you work hard and love what you do I hope i can sound like you one these days i have been playing for 14 years and i dont sound no were like you do :O truly amazing im inspired

  • İ have a question too, i started to play piano at 16 years old and i am 17 now, i want to learn violin too, is too late ? and nice playing good job :)

  • Only fitting that her picture is similar to Heifetz :)

  • nice, this violin performance truly helped my concentrated on studying

  • First of all, You're beyond amazing. Congrats. If i may i would like to ask you a question, Who do you think it's the best solo violinist of all time?

  • this is the dogs bollocks

  • Your interpretation was impeccable, Ann. Ludwig van would be proud of you !

  • your amazing

  • I don't really like Beethoven that much, but this is an amazing piece, and you, Ms. Fontanella, have done a terrific job

  • Can I buy this on itunes?

  • Ann i have a question :), at 2:30, it's an open G, in Stefan Jackiw's performance he played that open G while doing vibrato with the G on the D string, does that make the open G sound different? and thanks for the video, it's beautiful :)

  • @ray16395 Yes, it does! He is utilizing the overtone an octave aboe to make the G sound warmer and give a tinge of vibrato to an open string. You hear the overtone above slightly. If you have a piano, try holding down the G key an octave higher while striking the lower octave and you will see what I mean!

  • @ray16395 Yes it does make the open G sound different because it sounds sympathetically with it. It is a great way to even add a romantic touch to the piece..

  • This just floated me through the horrid housework- and I also prefer your rendition to Heifeitz- thank you Ann. Even at the real life level you are enjoyed and appreciated.

  • Beautiful playing, indeed reminiscent of Heifetz.. Wonderful purity of the high tones, and nice interpretation

  • Beautiful playing, indeed reminiscent of Heifeitz.. Wonderful purity of the high tones, and nice interpretation.

  • ms. ann wat a grt musician ur

  • My fave!!!

  • fantastic interpretation and commentary!

  • Lots of thanks, Ann. I love classical music but know next to nothing about it. It is so helpful to read your comments and guide. I wish every music video clip comes with such "aids" to listeners. Hope you turn out to be a trail-blazer for other generous uploaders on Youtube. Bless you, goodbye.

  • Ms Fontanella,

you play with magic fingers. And i hope to play Violin(I play it to) like you someday

    ;)

  • Ms Fontanella, that is one of the best pieces played, I think just as Beethoven intended it to be played. You have your ears very close to the center of the universe from where that melody comes. I think it is better than Heifetz.

  • Hello Ann! I'm very happy to have found your channel. Thank you for sharing your music and your thoughts so generously. I must find a copy of the Urtext. It's so often revealing to compare the manuscript with the "edited" versions that are more commonly used. I've been collecting digital copies of manuscripts with the intention of creating new print editions. But these would be mostly of lesser known works that aren't already available, by composers like C.G. Neefe, Beethoven's first teacher.

  • very good

  • (I appreciate Wikipaedia's contributions in the descriptions on previous comment)

  • Awesome.....

  • The Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 in F major, Op. 50 is a piece for violin and orchestra by Ludwig van Beethoven, one of two such compositions by Beethoven, the other being Romance No. 1 in G major, Op. 40. It was written in 1798, four years before the first romance, and was published 1805, two years later than the first. Hence, this piece was designated as Beethoven's second romance. It is one of Beethoven's most popular works.

  • Ann, your playing brought me back to my childhood in the 60's in Southern California, where I often listened to Heifetz, Menuhin, Stern, and Temianka. You've recaptured the essence of an era, and made it your own (not to mention relevant to today). Brava, bravissima!

  • Ann! in beettoven's way of life, the gentleness to the lady who loved sincerely is the song to which I'm out. Your gentleness has gone out! Ave Maria seems to be playing! I'd like to see a performance animation of a romance 2 next time! thank you,Ann. from hidekifromjapan.

  • bravo

  • very beautiful is it the celebrity stradivari? it sounds so pretty ! *****!

  • I like this one more than Heifetz's rendition of Beethoven Romance No. 2 in F Maj. Op. 50. Both are good, but I definitely visited this video hundreds of times more:)

  • Super like!! you played the song well.. mixed with emotions and soul! Thanks for uploading this! Godbless

  • A beautiful sound...you sound great

  • when my mother died, and listen to songs on the flight back to their homes. I always

heard crying. every time I remember hearing my mother today! Glad to have met a beautiful song, Beethoven Violin Romance. Thank you, Ann!

  • @hidekifromjapan , it is my pleasure. I hope the music brings back many happy memories for you. :)

  • @hidekifromjapan

    Ha, your mums dead

  • @RaywilliamjohnsonMOO Ha you're a no life troll.

  • Brilliant performance...Poignant, excellent, sophisticated phrasing, vibrato, bow control...Ms. Ann Fontanella is indeed an inspirational violinist...absorbs the spirit of Beethoven Romance with depth & exelsity! Awesome to be aware that the style is influenced by Jascha Heifetz! Thx for posting!

  • @angela44ize , my pleasure, always! Thanks for your support!

  • Hi, Ann. I like how you interpret this poignant piece --both in word and music. I think it's rare to see an uploader explain a work--especially this is your own playing--in such detail, with the sincerity and modesty to welcome opinions from listeners who so often fall into temptation of assumedly giving harsh comments. I've always loved classical music though I'm not really musically trained, and your annotations are indeed inspiring to me. Thanks:D

  • @azndarkrevilo , much appreciated! It is very important to me that my audience understands what I am doing! I think one of the great mistakes that classical musicians make is allowing the audience to sit for 10 minutes or more without knowing exactly what is happening - I would get bored, too! :)

  • VERY GOOD

  • she looks like kitty jane 0.o

  • I would say that this was the most horrible piece I've ever heard but April Fools has passed :P I love it! Pretty girl, pretty music.

  • 'Music should strike fire from the heart of woman, and bring tears form the eyes of a man.' Beethoven van Ludvig

  • Beethoven music is reflection of all kind of human emotion

  • 29 people have no feeling for music, for those who dislike a song like this and not worthy of beating on any other music! If you think like me thumbs up!!!

  • Great job, though i really could've done without the annotations... sorry to say, but this entire video seems a bit narcissistic...

  • inspiring and really moving interpretation. Congratulations.

  • I love the descriptions. No one has ever described it to me that way.(with the in-text descriptions) I play Irish fiddle but I have always loved romantic style violin playing. I am only starting some Vivaldi pieces. Would you have any tips for playing different classical styles?

  • Very Pretty Ann

  • Very good playing. From 2:43 to 2:48 is almost IMPOSSIBLE to consistently play in tune.....grr....

  • Violinists have nice armpits.. O.O

  • jealous

  • really beautiful piece, i enjoyed listening to, because you play with "feeling", greetings from México.

  • is there any way we could download this?

  • Very Pretty

  • i bit to smooth for my taste

  • Fabulous.... As always Ann!!!!!! and i might start to learn a Bruch piece... and general suggestions on his playing style???

  • both beautiful

  • Absolutely amazing, very lovely job on this piece, Ann. I will gladly base my interpretation of this piece on yours, many thanks for posting this up!

  • beautiful..

  • Will you play life in europe in the future?

It is really wunderfull to listen. Maybe one day, I will be able to join a life concert.

  • god selects some people for great achievement...i think edison,abrahamlincoln,mandella,beethoven...and da list continues..u r one among them....gr8.............anna

  • Woah, your elbow is super high.

Love the annotations, and you play so well! :D Thanks.

  • question about your bowhold:

hi, on the picture of this video, it seems you laid your index finger between the stick and the hairs. can you confim that? i only know the russian and the franco-belgian bowhold. is yours an own individual method, or do i have much more to learn?! ;)

i played since 1 month.. so sorry for my marginal experience.. and also sorry for my english. =)

    kind regards,

    josh

  • @josh260379 , No worries! I have a Prodigy grip - meaning my violin was too big for me when I began playing, so I had to modify my hold slightly so I could reach the ends of the bow :)....I never changed it because it just ended up working fine for me.....:)

  • how do i subcribe i have never done this b4

  • @frazzyichigo , If you go to my channel, scroll to just below my featured video, and you will see the subscribe button in yellow on the left side beside my picture. Thanks for your interest! :)

  • I think Antonio Margheretti would be cool for ya.

    Ann Margheretti :X:X

  • Fantastic performance. I think you perform extremely well. Keep up the great work.

  • I am sure Beethoven would be proud of you.

    Good luck !

  • loving this :) im in yr 6 and im playing this :D

  • so beautiful, cried all the way through

  • Your rendition of this beautiful music captures all the pathos and sentimentality in your painting by using all the colours of the rainbow..It is flawless and a real tear.jerker. Thank you from a silent admirer.

  • you are simply a marvolous violinist

  • Great performance!

I love all your video's annotations!

  • I love the way you play this work Ann. It is one step better and even more bitter/sweet than Heifetz's version. You corrected the G string spike at 2:30, the careful caress of the bow. Everything so pecise, And the tonal colour, astounding. It requires more than one audition to hear the tone colour change on one bow..... You achieved greatness + I'm anxious to hear you continue in this marvelous line. Perfect vibrato, perfect bow, perfection in presentation, and emotionally musical. Love u

  • wonderful

  • Great performance and great annotations! I've been annotating a bunch of Beethoven myself and your walkthru style is really great. It may influence mine now ;).

You may want to note in the title that it's Opus 50 and not 40, since there are 2 Violin Romances. I love Heifetz too, tho as you say he's very "recognizable". Still, that vibrato and portamento is so electric, even if his co-partners might not have the same intonation (piano trios....). OK - I'll be subscribing - very cool.

  • @lvbandmore , Thanks for the head's up!!! I'll take care of the opus issue immediately! Good luck on your annotations!

  • hiya, dear! where did u study music? :) i love this piece <3

  • @erinsaldivia , I studied under Erick Friedman, Heifetz's protege.

  • @erinsaldivia Doesn't really matter where she studied. I believe music is a very personal thing, especially art music. Every individual has there own special interpretation, because the composers have given us this freedom.

  • die melody is wundervoll und schön das hört sich echt toll an

  • The most beautiful woman ever to stand behind a violin.

  • how nice this is

  • Simply amazing. Such beauty of sound is exquisit. Everything about this recording, Ann is beyond what simple words can express. The bel canto sound, each note perfectly shaded with a paint brush that only a master can place from hair of bow to string for us mortals to enjoy. I adore your playing, and pray you will give us more of this kind of artistry. There are many violin players, but very very few artists. It is a privalege to hear you!

  • I've been playing for only 2 years or more, and i'm practicing this piece. Your walkthroughs really helped me a lot. Thank you!

  • This is the first time i have heard a beethoven violin concerto, but it sounds wonderful!

  • @shitbeus Just so you know, this is a Romance, not a concerto. There's only one beethoven violin concerto, Opus 61 in D major which is THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER!!! :P

  • as soon as it started playing i had goosebumps!!!! wow amazing! how old were u when u started playing the violin??? i had small drops of tear
