One of the best ways to fix it for free is to use another computer to download an operating system from isohunt and then burning it onto a disk then just install windows again!

@ThirtyVirus1 Or you can't just recover all the files if its not a laptop, just hook up the hdd, save all the files and then just replace whatever broke, if possible

damn HP are n00bs, the first thing you should try before completely restoring your computer, is booting up the Windows 7 Installation Disc and do a Startup Repair... Most of the time that fixes it.

Your BIOS system has to be replaced and so does your HDD in some cases.I had this problem twice on my 32bit vista.Basically because 32bit vista isn't built for hard processing.I'm going to college for computer science.

I found that you can use Ubuntu in CD mode (boot up and "try it" on the disk) and you can go into the Windows hard disk and then put your data on to USB or other media source...

II have had the same issue as well, and I know how to fix it, without losing files.

Just buy a new copy of vista, install, and all your old documents should be stored in a folder called windows.old.
