  • love the video really good

  • brilliant video

  • some sweet info here

  • Ask Lil Wayne.... he ALWAYS uses two Styrofoam cups! duh ! lol

  • THUMB DOWN! YU FAIL!

  • What is the best insulation? that the name of the vedio and in 5 min you didn't even say you god your gay!

    fake and gay

  • @speedtuff I'm not sure I understand your comment...

  • @TheAlbinoJabberwocky What is the best insulation? im sorry didn't know you were a retard! WHAT WAS THE BEST INSULATION? WHAT HELD THE HEAT IN FOR THE LONGEST TIME? YOUR CONCLUSION? YOUR DATA RESULTS? THE WINNER? THE ONE YOU WOULD LEST LIKE TO STICK YOUR DICK IN? WHAT WAS THE BEST INSULATION? IF YOU FAILED THE EXPERIMENT IN HIGH SCHOOL I STILL GIVE YOU AN F.

  • @speedtuff im sorry, it seems you left caps lock on

  • i gota no what song that is lol jk

  • It's hard trying to do this with Ice

  • The reason why this guy was wrong is because he did not take into account RADIATION and CONVECTION which go through the CONDUCTIVE insulation barriers he is used to seeing for sale.

  • You could have tried the plastic covers like you get at a fast food restaruant ex: mcdonald's, burger king, carl's, or starbuck's, in addition to the covers in the video. It would be interesting to see if industry, as used in restaruants, uses a cover that keeps the drink warm.

  • this helped me with my homework on a practical experiement aqbout insulators, thanks, see this video is good, when your next stuck on science homework, no haters cos this helps you get out of detention. ;')

  • I hope this guy is a public school teacher. We need more of this out there for the kids.

  • I don't wantmy drink hot forever, I want to be able to drink it.

  • Who came here cause they were bored?

  • so the best insulator is a first order thermal and electrical conductor...

  • well

  • press 2 rapidly 4 lol

  • 0:04 BEST PARTT <3

  • Air is proven to be the best insulator.

  • Its a good experiment but i dont get the graphs o0 Would someone mind to explain it to me?

  • @iCrainBows He recorded the temperature after each 10 minute integral for each different cup.

  • @iCrainBows

The vertical dimension is temp, hottest temp at the top and lower temps run down. The horizontal dimension is time, going from left to right. At the start, all the cups were at the same temp, the hottest temp of the experiment, so all the cups were 1st plotted at the top left. At certain times, he took the temps of all the cups and they were cooler each time, so those got recorded at the appropriate distance to the right (time), and at the appropriate height (temp).

  • I don't understand this expirement. Although, I want to use it for my sciece project! :D

  • how can u not choose aluminum foil. We use it in everywhere!

  • are you a scientist yourself?

  • are you a scientist yourself?

  • @iridis that's why SCIENCE OLYMPIAD exists!! :P

  • Mr. Brain the reason why the foil did better is becuase it has low permeance it does not allow air to flow throug it. the paper and paper towels allow diffusion of vapor to flow throug it thus allowing warm vapor to pass it. if you would have air sealed the mix cup it would have performed even better. thats why spray foam is probably the best insulator becuase it not only has good insulating properties but it also air seals.

Just a tip. good experiment though!

  • @staminqia Foil reflects heat back to the inside and the opposite side reflects the cold back to the outside.

Reflectix website would be a good start to understand thermal reflection useing foil. You are right that it does not allow vapor loss either.

The foil urethane foil sandwich board insulation has about 6.3 R value per inch but spray seals better. Spray is about R 6 on its own per inch.

  • Shut up with all the complains y'all making! The information he gives us is very useful.. And what does it matter if he talks like we are all children. He talks like that, so everyone can understand him!

Thankx! Helped me out a lot..

  • I guess now,I'll make an alluminum foil blanket.

  • @ScrapGoldBass Emergency hypothermia blankets are made from aluminum foil, used as emergency heat retention to minimize body heat loss, most commonly seen at the end of Marathon races to help runners cool down slowly.

  • What Is the best 'insulation' idiot...

    0:15

  • That little 12 year old is busting all kinds of holes in your experiment.

  • This guy wishes he was Mr. Wizard, I bet this guy is a pedophile band from being near kids since none are in this vid

  • I'm 12 and when I saw this i felt like a 6 year old.....And when u said fluffy, I couldn't stop laughing cuz its the AIR POCKETS in the blanket that is the good insulator...NOT THE FREAKIN BLANKET. And its not even a fair experiment cuz you poured in the hot water at different intervals for each cup. And its not a full experiment cuz you dont have an explanation. You also cant assume that all the cups had water that was at the same temperature at the start of the experiment.

  • @MuddyCreates

You are correct, the pockets, created by the blanket are the insulators.Without the blanket no pockets. If you notice the chart in the video you can see that each cup has its own measurement points and the chart shows a trend as well as a visual analysis comparing the cups. This kind of trend analysis helps scientists correlate data rapidly and formulate theories. You may also notice that the video is edited for brevity. You can come up with your own explanation with the data.

  • bad experiment

  • @juliogbox The shiny surfaces reflect radiation better. So for eacg layer of aluminum heat is also reflected back more. The mixed material which the outer surfaces coverd with aluminum should do the best.

  • fail within the first 20 seconds. didnt read the question out right!!

  • Thanks! This is gonna help me with my science project

  • omG! I need help! I have to make a thermos! and i dont know what kinds of insulation to use! i knoe the pink insulation but i dont know the other one's! URGHHH! :S:@

  • Hey... Do you think this can be a good science fair? like if use these kinds of examples could give me more then 75%

  • Good Video. The reason the paper towels and newspaper did not perform as well as you thought they would is the steam. When a conventional insulating product gets more than 1.5% moisture content inside the insulation it looses 35% or more of its R-value. The aluminum foil (radiant barrier) is not affected in this way. Try putting a vapor barrier, such as a piece of a plastic bag, before the paper towels and newspaper and you will see different results.

  • is this insulation thingy a good science project? :D

  • how about a half in thick cup with with a lid that is 2 inches bigger then both sides and 3 inches tall and put the lid in a forge and use twice the air power and get it up in the 2000 degs then hold it till it stops poping and sit it ontop... it would take a wile before it even gets back to the start temp...

  • @shirahimeSKY depends on what grade you're in, but I think so! :)

  • ever tried a space blanket?

  • Nice video. What would have been really impressive is if one of the foam cups was wrapped with the aluminum foil. Combining radiant barrier to stop radiant heat (by emissivity in this case) and foam insulation to slow conductive heat results in a high-performance thermal envelope similar to what we are doing in super efficient construction.

  • Also.. Newspaper and paper towels, even untreated wood absorb moisture (also due to their capillary nature), so the thermally conductive moisture they picked up would replace the dead air, eliminating most of the insulating quality of the material.

  • Aluminum conducts more heat than plastic or wood, but it also reflects more thermal radiation. In other words, aluminum insulates over a distance, wood and plastic insulate better when they have 'dead air' (motionless) trapped. For this reason, styrofoam and any wood would insulate better than metal if the materials were touching the water.

Most radiant barriers are reflective plastic and they don't provide a thermal break against anything they touch.

    To insulate a house,

  • the best insulation would be a vacuum. It's not really practical with today's technology for houses.

  • aluminum foil just gets heavy and expensive thats why its not always used for insalation lol other then that... i heard newspapers a really good insalation... dude you are an idot to think that paper towel is the best insalation... eveyone knows that its not... lmao...

  • we shld all sleep covered in aluminum foil from now on... hehehe. Great video though!!

  • two girls one cup?

  • That video is gross!

  • My last comment was referring to reminvestor.

  • great video thanks, this will really help me

  • just asking. why 5 paper towels or 5 newpapers

  • Hyposis isn't really used in modern science anymore. It's an ancient Greek concept.

  • UFO hoaxers use hypnosis as a means of evidence. LOL

  • why do you where that orange shirt all the time

  • maybe its his favourite or lucky shirt

  • i think cheese

  • thats an ugly blanket lol

  • your an ugly blanket

  • ...how witty

  • @nspuds I have one of those blankets, it's the dogs.

  • Great Experiment, time to discover, inovation begains here.

  • iNNovation begIns here.

  • check out aerogel, that shit is the best insulator.

  • but its really really expensive

  • Wow, I like that one. i think I'll try it. Maybe you could have plastic cups, styrofoam cups and glass cups, and have insulators for those and see what happens. I'm guessing it would be better to cover the whole cup instead of just the top. Maybe you could surround the whole cup with sawdust. I heard that was a good insulator... but maybe not. Thanks for the video!

  • good expirement! bad controls.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very educational, even for adults. Great post!

  • i guest aluminum foil because that's what is used to keep chickens and baked potatoes warm

  • GO TO BED FOR CHRIST SAKE !!!!

  • give the guy a break, u should'nt be callin somebody meat when you dont even know him. sheesh i hate youtubers how talk shit.

  • @youknow566 I hate how whiny cunts like you get all worked up about it. Pipe down mother fucker.

  • A hypothesis could be an educated guess or a total random guess... there is absolutely nothing wrong about making a wrong guess, it's just a guess before u start your experiment.

  • It was foil, becuase the Foil Reflects the heat back into the water, it's type of heat Transfer is Radiation. For my Science i have yo design a beaker and test it to see who can keep theirs hotter using Insulation, Thanks for the help!

  • Id guess a car would be the best insulator..

  • based on your definition a fire place is an insulator. . . your an idiot.

ps best insulator is a vacuum

  • wtf are u talking about?

  • The best insulator is a vacuum. Such as in space. It's like the air on earth, but with all the gasses sucked out.

  • a vacuum doesnt prevent energy transfer through conduction or radiation...

  • I LOVED THESE SHOWS!

  • One thing that my professor would say is that you are only helping to proliferate the misconception that a hypothesis is an educated guess.

  • 120 degrees?? Are you live in the hole? Water should pour!

  • fahrenheit

  • the results noticed have almost nothing to do with insulation

  • this would be great for kids in like 4th - 6th grade to like teach about scientific procedure good work man keep it up heck im 16 and it can even keep my attention and thats after watching a video of how to do stuff with a magnetohydrodynamic propulsion system

  • thx man XD

  • thx i needed this for science

  • Another great vid man 5 stars you need to get a time slot on the science channel!!!
