  • And people ask me why I'm a John Mayer fan. THIS.

  • I adore everything this man does. Period. This is coming from a BLACK FEMALE. I get it. I understand why John does the things he does and if you were a John Mayer fan, you would to. "All because of this desire just wannna to be liked, just wanna be funny, but looks like the joke's on me. So call me captain backfire"

  • Fucking ass hole. Smart move to apologize, and put on an award winning speech... Trying to save your ass from being excluded from the amazing qualities of being loved by ALL RACES. completely turned off.

  • #igetyoujohnmayer ...and thats all.

  • made me cry

  • "...And my name is John Mayer, and I'm going to figure that out."

  • And here begins my quest to retrieve the lost Aardvarked88's comment

  • @Aardvarked88 Who was that directed at? O wait, you wrote it to yourself to make it appear that someone had said something racist. Douchebag

  • @Ostrander17 It was an add on to his previous comment...

  • @Ostrander17 Go back a few pages dude. He's arguing with someone.

  • His song "My Stupid Mouth" sums up his constant need to be clever and ruin things with the people he loves.

  • Comment removed

  • Gawd, talk about self absorbed, self agrandizing, messianic complex, eh "Jew" Mayer?? Face it queer, you just ain't that important. The reason why you're comments didn't make waves is because NOBODYS GIVES A SHIT, FAG! Get over your gay self...

  • Oh, I bet you write really sensitve poem, don't you Jew Fag?

  • Haaaaa-haaaaaa-haaaaa!!! What a whiney little Jew Bitch man slut!

  • Oh, boo, hoo, hoo! Perhaps I can make amends for my sins by sucking a big black dong? Mea culpa! Mea culpa!!!

  • He defiled Taylor Swift, he deserves to die! Wait a sec, I don't really care. She's really lame too..

  • Great,he says shit that would end anyone elses' career, sheds a few crocodile tears, blabs an eloquent "apology",and all the dumb peices of pussy in the audience absolve him of any and all wrongdoing.I can't believe they're that dumb. Not that he should have to apologize to begin with, even though what he said was fucked up.

  • @chibblywubbly lol didnt wana fuck up that money

and admiration from other famous black celebs..lol

as the background music slowly plays to his speech.

lol I understand he is human and probably meant

the apology its still kinda like ehh...

although I am a black woman who was

known to blast some of his songs from my speakers

im kinda over him..not gonna lie though gravity is still

    one of my jams

  • @martaajoku1 John Mayer may not be attracted to black women, but just how many black women were ever attracted to John Mayer?

  • @MrDolemike1977 well to be honest...I have had

conversations with black women who dnt usually

date outside of their race and when they say who

out of caucasian men they find attractive..they have

bee quick to say john mayer or justin timberlake..

its like he was a white guy that alot of black women

are actually attracted too...idk about currently but i have

    heard it before

  • Kinda wished the girls would stop screaming and let him talk right here.

  • a grown man in his 30s with a career he carved out since his teen years and probably a shitload of mistakes along the way, and he apologized. I cant comprehend how people can judge an apology in such a Negative way just because they don't like him.

U mean u haven't fucked up and hurt others before? u haven't embarrassed yourself or judged others before u got to know them? How many went back to apologize to the person, let alone to a whole stadium of supporters and break down. please be graceful.

  • When his voice started to break I felt he had hit a real nerve within himself...It was painful to listen to, but lessons are a bi#ch.

  • This is my first time seeing this. I heard he apologized but I had never seen it or heard it. He really did apologize. We've all said things we've regretted and grown and developed because of it. It takes a lot for a man to apologize about anything. I've been waiting for that kind of apology, in my personal ,from someone who intentionally hurt me publicly and he still hasn't done it. I commend him for having the guts to apologize to his band and all of us really. Haters R vultures & are real

  • that was really good of him. everybody's been there before,

  • This apology is so unreal. I really cant stand John Mayer. The sad thing is...I was a HUGE fan and shared a bond with my dad listening to his music. The worst thing he said in the article in my opinion was the Nw*rd of course and his comments about what it means to be black and making the best of your situation. I didn't know being black was a situation...that was so mean and hurtful. I had no clue that people still feel this way. It hurts when someone you look up to is really someone you fear.

  • Mmm....real genuine. An apology all about yourself.

  • @lovejoypain i dunno i thought it was pretty legit...he fucked up, and i think he redeemed himself

  • Hey...maybe a kkk member patted him on the shoulder and tried to recruit him backstage and he got scared... LOL.

  • Everytime I hear this, makes me wanna cry next to him, hug him and tell him that I love him, that I got he's back and that its ok to make mistakes, but is better to realize when they have been made and apologize..

  • We have all been there.Rock on John..I love half of my heart you are ok....No need for an apology, there are alot of celbrities ,who have done alot worse ..don't see them taking any accountability. You know who they are. Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Chris Brown..could go on forever ..

  • A lot of you don't know what racism is, it's a belief of superiority ..JM's comments were racist. What rappers say in songs isn't races.. it's discriminatory ..talking about DIFFERENCES of races isn't racist, it's when you think your race is HIGHER or BETTER in some way than others. That 'preference' he has exemplifies this and is racist.

  • @rawtoon41 John Mayer is not a racist. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions have proven for years that it's impossible for him to be a racist. That said, his words were careless, an assault on his female, black and gay fans, and a result of giving a druken interview -- thus apologizing was a classy thing to do, to make up for otherwise VERY unclassy behavoir.+

  • @esprit15d I didn't say he was a racist dumbass. Reading is fundamental, I said the comment was and I was explaining how it was racist to the people saying it wasn't. Everything you said to argue was irrelevant bc of this. So stfu.

  • im not sure how i feel about this...on the one hand, his remarks were illadvised, but, most probably a slip of the tongue, and being who he is, he shouldve known better, which is why a public apology is completely called for, but, i mean.. one of his concerts?could he have picked an easier place to do it? i mean, you're among hundreds and hundreds of people spending their time and money to see you.. if theyre at your show, they weren't affectedby your stupidity;they're not who the apology is for.

  • @K3vinJC but it blew up about 12 hours before the concert, and it was like, a storm going on. to have ignored it would have been... impossible.

  • @esprit15d ohhh, ok, I didn't know that. well, I guess it was a mature thing to do, i can respect that

  • Nice seats lol

  • Racist? I don't think so. Arrogant jerk? Yep. Only rock's most elite royalty can make such reckless statements and get away with it. He's not quite that cool, despite what he may think.

  • I just read the article and Im still wandering why he should have apologized? I dont understand.

He was just being himself in the article I felt like he was having a regular conversation. whats the big deal.

  • was he crying?!?!?!?!?!

  • Oh please. This could have all been avoided had he refrained from saying the N-word and compairing himself to a white supremicist. He knew what he was saying was wrong when he was saying, unless he's been living under a damn rock. John, I'm not convinced.

  • Everybody is a little bit racist... he's in the public eye so what he says, everyone hears. that's all. He's no different than any of us, so shut up.

  • Oh god, this is so sweet, his ability to be so sincere and vulnerable in front of that many people... it astounds me.

  • What a Dick

  • Well I'm black and I love John Mayer. I hate the N Word in any capacity, and when he said it I thought it was messed up and dissapointing. However, to have the balls and sincerely apologize without excuses is good enough for me and I have even more respect for him for doing it in front of thousands of people. By the way is it me or is John like really hot now. Any whoo Love you John. More Trio live albums please!!!

  • Holy shit that was like listening to a Nelson Mandela speech said by Morgan freeman

  • God. what a lovely man.

  • He is a great musician, he just needs to wait his mouth. He is still my favorite musician. We all make mistakes, glad he is a man enough to admit his mistakes.

  • Fuck, that's embarassing.

  • lmao when he says "I shoud have just given that up and played the guitar..."

the lady screams and says "start doing it now!"

  • John Mayer . I am only somewhat familiar with your music ! Yet after looking at your videos it is clear that you are very talented .... a true gift from above . You've been blessed with that gift and such fame yet alone they do not build a hero ! You have apologized for your shortcomings and now you must regroup yourself and spirit and become all that you can be ..... ! Good Luck and drop by someday and help me with my guitar playing :-)

  • lol he cried. what a bitch.

    kidding.

    the apology seemed sincere.

  • haha, damn he cried

  • i feel for this man. yes he has been a douche too many many woman, but you can see clearly that this man deeply sorry for what he said and in some eyes it was wrong, in my eyes he was trying to be too clever like he says in this. I feel sorry for him because he gets ALOT of stick for the things he does on his life when really he justs wants to play his guitar and entertain people with his amazing talents, so good for him I say. i think everyone should stop giving so many celebrities slick.

  • i was there. that was a sincere apology

  • He was trying to be funny in the interview, and a lot of people apparently took it too seriously. You can argue about that all day long, but it's too bad because I find him pretty funny in interviews and stuff. But at least he's quitting that style for the right reasons. Not because of "politically correct" commentators or people who distort the truth to have another rock to throw at him, but because close friends said they didn't think he was being true to himself with that shock-jock humor

  • He's actually Crying.

  • @RyanLeePeters Right on man! He's not as great a musician as people believe and he always wants to run his mouth. But when he says something that gets everyone pissed cuz he should know better, he goes and cries on stage for pity. Well, he better cry a river, build a bridge and get over it cuz he fucked up and he's been blacklisted in my town so fuck him :D

  • @SomberSweet Clearly your town is full of absolute retards

  • @Aardvarked88 I didn't say I was living in the smartest town in the world. I moved here. Most people here probably don't even know this dude anyways XD

  • @SomberSweet I would hate to see how many black people use Cracker or Honky behind our backs. Part of growing up is being able to handle what is thrown at you. If the N word offends you that much-possibly you should seek counciling to get a grip on your emotional state. It's not good to let a word dictate and control your emotions. What I really hate are the black people that go around using the N word in front of whites. If the word really offended you so much, you would never use it.!!!

  • @livininnashville Typical cop-out bullshit, attempting to throw every black person in the world into a neat little package like everybody with different skin pigments thinks and acts the same makes any valid point you may have totally redundant. There's a whole world of difference between nigger and cracker/honky, white people weren't victimized, enslaved and hung and lynched for centuries while having that word thrown at them.

  • @Aardvarked88

Mayer is a douchebag but take the chip bag off the shoulder. Just about all blacks use cracker/cracka now but anything other than "AA" or at a push 'black' from a white has AA's like you on the victim soap box. If you can't take it don't give it out. I've been called cracker to my face many times, I deal with it because blacks are ignorant.

  • @Gonzoidz Until millions of white people have been deported into slave labour, victimised for centuries and strung up from trees, don't ever try and equate nigger with cracker. It's hilarious to try and be the voice of reason while you post a comment that has both "Just about all blacks.." and "blacks are ignorant". You're clearly far more ignorant than any black people I know and you only "deal with it" because you're a pussy who only has any conviction behind his computer screen.

  • @Aardvarked88 Scrap that, I've just noticed you're one of those deplorable people who looks for attention via youtube comments, the worst part is you probably think you're original, clever and funny despite being nothing more than a carbon copy of about 5 million other retards with just as little wit.

  • @Aardvarked88

So the centuries old legacy of slavery allows blacks to call white people anything they like, but the N word, that is all over balck culture, is punishable by eternal damnation!? The hypocrisy of people like you is amazing! Truth is, you wallow and enjoy your flawed sense of victimization and oppression. The only oppression blacks have today is from other balcks, that's the truth. So those balcks who called me cracker are not ignorant? Amazing! Typical black attitude

  • @Gonzoidz Neither you nor any white person has any business saying the word or deciding whether it's acceptable or not. Cracker/honky is ignorant but trying to insinuate that it holds the same weight as calling somebody a nigger is far more ignorant than any black person with a grudge. Race is a genetic trait, anybody who makes it into anything more is a poor, misguided idiot. From your attitude, I think you should be pleased the worst you've been called is cracker.

  • @Aardvarked88

Maybe you should direct your ire at the black culture that uses the N word so freely and openly? If it's such a taboo amongst blacks why is it so common? It's not as if its a word other races can tune out and avoid. It's pervasiveness is all too evident Blacks only have themselves to blame if it offends to such a degree. The N word is just an extension of negro, negra or nero, which means black in latin languages. If the US had been Italian or Spanish you'd be stuck with it.

  • @Aardvarked88

    cont'd.

Save me your black attitude. Just be glad the US shipped your ancestors out of West Africa. Your life expectancy is double what it would have been and you have opportunity you couldn't dream of in Ghana, Cameroon, Cote D Ivoire etc.. If all you have to worry about is a white kid like Mayer making a throw away remark then you need a reality check. And if the worst thing that can happen to u is being called a nigga I'd take it and enjoy what the white man provides u.

  • @Gonzoidz Your pseudo-intelligent rant is all well and good, but you're completely missing the point. 1) I'm not black, 2) I've already said that Mayer was wrong to say the word but you'd have to be retarded to call him a racist because of it, 3) Your lack of understanding of culture is shocking, it must be awesome to regurgitate everything you hear from Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. I think black culture has earned the right to use the N word for whatever they please.

  • @RetAradmarked88

lol! So you're a bed wetting wigger taking offense on behalf of the so called downtrodden negro/AA/black american? Don't make me laugh u hand wringing fcknut. Little gay student fcks like you should be seen and not heard! I assume u are either some Tyrone's bitch with black semen dripping out of your biscuit ass or just a wannabe Vanilla Ice in tacky hip hop bling. Since I call a spade a spade u have certainly EARNED the right to be called a total cunt! A dumb cunt at that.

  • @Gonzoidz Pretty hilarious just how quickly you gave up on the pseudo-intelligent bullshit, descended into casual racism and then just flat out acted like a prepubescent retard. I can only assume you've inherited your ignorance, bigotry and social retardation from your family, my apologies. It must be awesome to act like a Bill O'Reilly clone on youtube, I bet you're one of those complete failures who quotes American History X but completely misses the point of the film.

  • @Aardvarked88 It's also funny just how much time you seemingly spend on youtube videos downtalking the black community, how many black people have you actually interacted with in your life? What's even funnier is that you're a supposed guitar player, you're shitting on the group of people who laid the foundations for pretty much any genre you could list. Go read a book or get a fucking education, you're embarrassing.

  • @Aardvarked88

replying to your own messages now dickhead? Embarassing, erm yes!

  • @Aardvarked88

History X, seen it once but it was total bullshit. No skinhead goes to jail and comes out with flowers in their hair.Maybe you bought it, or where dumb enough, I didn't. As far as blacks inventing every guiyar style, nope. Guitar itself came from Spain and was well established in both folk, flamenco, gypsy, music hall, classical.. before any black American. This included the pentatonic scale, holy grail of rock styles. In the US, the country guitar spawned rockabilly not blues

  • @Gonzoidz Claiming black people should be glad that their ancestors were taken as slaves, hung from trees and only given basic civil rights in the last 50 years makes you the biggest idiot who's left a comment on this video. It must be awesome to live such a closeted life in white suburbia, blindly casting assumptions against around a billion people who you've never met. You're nothing more than ignorant retard who thinks being a closet racist makes you superior to everyone else.

  • @livininnashville I'm not saying that I like black people saying it either. I live by the if-you-don't-have-anything-nice-to-say rule and so do the people around me. We don't say or do racist things and don't approve of others doing that either. And sweetie, I can handle words thrown at me but just letting someone off the hook because their a celebrity is not right. When did it become okay for people to do whatever they want when their famous? I just don't like him as a person anymore.

  • The guy makes amazing music... and he, I feel, genuinely apologized for how he acted and for the things that he said. Give the guy a chance and see if he changes. People can change, you know.

  • @poopjuice0 he's apologized before and i don't care what he has to say anymore. He went too far this time and I honestly don't feel like wasting anymore chances on him. I'd have to see a change before I believe it. As of right now though, I can't stand him as a person and no amount of tears on stage is going to change that. He's actually been black listed in my town and I'm glad because a lot of people would cause a fuss to have his music removed here.

  • John, you're so sensitive. Just play your guitar and stop being so clever.

  • If you're going to be a douche bag and talk about the women you have slept with... don't turn around and be a fag an apologize for it. Andrew Dice Clay did it and look where he ended up. As far as "just playing guitar" goes, you should have thought of that shit before you ran your mouth. BTW...enough with the Stevie Ray Vaughn impressions. Be your own man...but I guess that is what this is all about anyway.

  • SRV impression?! WTF are you talking about?

  • Everyone I know who plays says this guy just repeats SRV. Listen to "Waiting for the World to Change" and then listen to "Tick Tock" on SRV's Family Style album. Even the vocal style got mimicked.

  • Well I know both and honestly I don't see that big of a familiarity.

Vocally he's closer (somewhat) to Dave Matthews.

  • @regelemihai I hear they have great new surgical procedures for the deaf. Hope your insurance covers it.

  • I hear Giant has new Sneekers cheese cakes. Might take a stroll down down there and grab me one....

  • He is a total douche as a person it has to be said. Amazing music though...

  • JEEZ. i absolutely loved John Mayer and his music and then i hear about this.

    WHYY?

  • ahahahaha xP

I wasn't even insulted by what he said in Playboy.

I'm black and I felt noooo insult from it and I thought it was FUNNY. I laughed so hard when I read that interview.

And the stuff about Simpson, she's the simplest dumbest person ever and he called her a drug. I'm sorry but John Mayer tells me my body is a drug and he'd sell all his stuff to keep having sex with me. I wouldn't be insulted.

  • Comment removed

  • If people cared more about the music and less about the personal lives of these people, this wouldn't even be an issue. It's being blown way out of proportion. People have done/said way worse things than this in the past. Who cares? I love John Mayer for his music and his talents and could care less about the things he says that some people might not agree with.

  • Comment removed

  • The quote attributed to Elvis is a longstanding hoax that's been investigated many many times over the years. Read about it on Snopes or even the New York Times article from 2007. In fact, doing a bit of research BEFORE you make derogatory, racist statements about a person might lend you some much needed credibility. Elvis had nothing to apologize for, but YOU DO.

  • this is wat happens when u think ur hot shit and are really too arrogant. he shoulda just kept playing his guitar and maybe he would have also put out a better album than that piece of shit Battle Studies.

  • I completely think that John's apology is 100% sincere and also don't believe for one second that he meant to hurt anyone with his comments. I can't believe that people actually think he is racist for what he said. Did you all read the entire 6,870 words of the article or just the part that was most convenient to twist around into something else? Let's pay attention to the positive things that he has done for once and let it go already.

  • @lblovesjm Considering his long and close artistic and personal friendship with both Steve Jordan and David Ryan Harris, to try and insinuate he's racist based on some obnoxious, misplaced comments is ridiculous. Like you say - people who hold on to his comments and try to label them as anything other than ill thought out are desperate, insecure people.

  • i honestly don't care what he says, it's not to me personally...but the rest of the article was no all sunshine and roses, ya know.. and that's not only pertaining comments directed at race..there were a few other inappropriate comments in there too :o but i agree.. people should just get over it and enjoy his music :/

  • Mayer said what he really felt in the playboy interview, and now he wants to kiss butt because he wants black peoples' money. his band members are staying cuz they need the work. blacks are crazy if they buy this b.s. apology.

  • why does he play nig.. music

  • Can this guy just complete a sentence without throwing a bunch of words in it to make himself sound smart? I mean he makes no sense. Christ!

  • ugh...just play your guitar bro.

  • thanks for apologizing John Mayer, just next time...think first before you speak.

  • Looks like his song "My Stupid Mouth" has come back into play, no?

  • Yeah its fair for rappers to degrade the gay community and say nigger, and its okay for black comedians to make fun of white people.

  • I'm the one with the short hair directly in front of John's main monitor. My head is in the front of the monitor somewhat to the right. I wish that I would have recorded this. I had my camera in hand, but just didn't.

  • @Eliminator5555 really cuz i\'m the guy standing right next to you !!!!!!

    JK

  • I love you John. This is coming from a black guy. Head up. You're the fucking man and you make brilliant music.

  • Goog crap...is he really apologizing to fucking music?!

    Fucking lame...

  • he's a fucking moron ... why are they playing music when he's talking ... kinda takes away the solemnness of the topic he's talking about... his tone is equally pretentious, as for the stupid festive crowd ...shameful .

  • I have not read the actual interview in Playboy. But based on the media attention, John Mayer is a joke. If he said whatever he said, he said it, Now it's this nonsense.

To John Mayer: maybe you need to take a break from being a hypocrite. Say what you believe and let whatever happens. Otherwise, shut the **** (everyone knows the word) up.

  • No, I don't think I do know it! What is it? :) haha jk

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • nothhing could fix this dude.

  • hah STFU jm

  • an insincere apology from an insincere individual - at least thats what it sounds like. what a bloody ego! great musician though...

  • the heart of life is good and so is your heart John

  • In your "Quest to be clever" you totally forgot that you had black fans that "loved" you... smh. You spoke too fast without thinking...usually those words are your true thoughts John. Okay, I accept your apology but it sucks to know how you truly feel John. You're a public figure, how about you practice "thinking before speaking", instead of trying to be "clever" and cool. Sigh...

  • BULLSHIT.

  • Eric Clapton never apologized for his remarks, so I give him a lot of credit. Why does Buddy Guy and B.B KIng even hang out with Clapton anyway. Clapton and Mayer said some really outrageous things. Forgive, yeah; forget, heck no. Remember who they are serving anyway. Watch John Todd and the music industry hear on You Tube. Fascinating stuff.

  • i dont agree with what he said but if you actually read the interview, any idiot can see that he wasn't being racist... just cause some one says nigger doesn't make them racist... hes not the only person in the world who has said the word so people need to just get the fuck over it...

  • I don't care if he was sincere or not... he used words that no respectful man should ever use, especially in public.

Good music never outweighs bad character...

  • I feel bad for you John. I hope the interview was taped because then people will be able to see what really went down. I can picture it in my head and that is why I can accept his apology. (READ THE INTERVIEW) I can picture John trying to be raw; babbling up a storm and then the sexual preference subject comes up. It is said and he realizes it came out wrong, only to trying and explain himself he digs deeper into the hole and then soon after realizes " Oh shit " We all make mistakes. <3 JM

  • John doesn't seem like a bad guy. He's just one of those dudes that need to watch what they say sometimes. I've seen alot of artists apologize and you can tell they are full of shit and don't mean it. But John really does look like he is sorry. Either way, we're all gonna forget about it in a month so why even bother?

  • how about who gives a fuck huh? NIGGER. its 2010 pussy's get over fucking man made "bad words" FUCKING GET A GOD DAMN LIFE JOHN MAYER IS A CRACKA WHO CARES.

  • nothing he said was specifically directed at anybody. Excuse him for having a sexual preference. It's no different than me saying I dont think I'll have sex with redheads, though some are cute. Not to mention if you ever listen to him outside of his music, you'd know the interview was most likely a light-hearted attempt at being "clever" and comical, not to be taken seriously. I love how so many people feel justified in judging a musician for their personal opinion. At least he is honest

  • lmao @ this dumb ass

so glad john mayer wasn't on the new we are the world

  • how can he be racist?! ninety percent of his band is black! try being as talented as john mayer, or in his position for One Day!

  • Comment removed

  • no one changes overnight. All he feels is the regret & shame of being reprimanded for his haughty self righteous comments. He just now returned to planet earth. Now he must begin the quest for change & no one knows how long thats going to but himself and his spiritual other. This only proves that there was something wrong the whole time in the first place. He's human. You fucked up hard this time John. Hope your changing.

  • NO ONE should say the "n" word and the fact that black people say it isn't a "right" it's a travesty seeing as that word was meant to degrade us as a people for so long. I don't think John Mayer is a racist I just think he is an idiot who probably should sing more and interview less. I don't support him however and never will.

  • ...at the end of the day....you admit over and over again that you intentionally said things in an attempt to be "Clever". Who the fuck does that? I mean....what person in their right mind says things that are so negative in an attempt to be "Cool"? You have got to be out of your rabbit ass mind dude! You are too old for these excuses. Please save that crap for someone else. You said it, you meant it....and we all know it!!! PERIOD! Ya won't be getting my hard earned money FOOOOOOOoOL!

  • Comment removed

  • Does not matter JOHN MAYER! You are a snake! Still trying to be "Clever" and sneek in this shitty ass apology. I ain't buying the shit. All I have to say is stop using the black community to help boost your shitty albums if you don't truely like them. As a matter of fact..it doesn't matter, because they are not going to fuck with your Bicurious ass anymore anyway.

  • haha he said clever like 20 times atleast.

  • John Mayer exists. But he is also sentimental, which makes him a man for the current media climate.

A person once said to me, "How is it so, that the light of the spirit shines forth." It made sense to me. John Mayer should take heed of this person's advice, for he is on a subtle path of communication. Peace.

  • John Mayer sucks and is a douchebag, racist or not.

But did anyone actually read the interview to see the context in which he used the word? Just seems like too much is being made of this... If you don't like him, don't buy his albums or concert tickets. Simple as that.

  • @suicidalfailuretx

thank you. i'm black, and generally would take offense to it, but in the context of the interview, i got what he was saying. i agree, people are blowing it way out of proportion.

  • Oh please.... he's apologizin' because his career is in jepoardy.... not because he actually means it.... PR 101....

  • OH MY GOD JOHN MAYER SAID NIGGER! The world must be coming to an end. African Americans use it, and since we are equal Caucassions can use it. I'm not saying it is a good thing, but it's not a big deal. He said it, he apologized, it's over. If you want to stop listening to his music because of it, then fine, since I guess all of his songs now have a racial connotation to them.

  • @silvertoneDUDE seriously DUDE... people are way to sensitive!

  • listen to this bullshit! just shut the fuck up an play, talking about back peddleing you said what you said now live with it! you got the ATTN! now play, dumbass!

  • lmao EY EY! He was just embarassed his joke went too far, that's all. but I agree, this is not what concert payers came to see.

  • There's nothing wrong with having an opinion about a person, or group of people, but it's wrong to THROW said opinion in their face, especially as a public figure with influence, having ppl think it's OK to say things like that. Keep that joke among you and your friends, dont make people uncomfortable. It's not right. I love His music but I can't back him on this. He should apologize on the same scale he made the comment. Not in concert. that's nothing compared to the readers of the magazine.

  • he apologized infront of all those people? in NASHVILLE.. the people he needed to apologize to i'm sure were NOT IN ATTENDANCE. GET ON TV ON DO IT.

the audience wasn't even LISTENING they were just shouting everytime he said the word "Clever" and "guitar"... this apology is BS to me, ans much as i loved his music, i'm done with Mayer.

  • his close black friends apparently didn't take it that seriously. Stop bitching about it people--seriously. You're all acting like little kids. Go on national TV and apologizefor nothing. There are other serious things we have to worry about nowadays; JM's mistake ain't one of them.

    Grow up all of you.

  • That was something he should have kept within his circle then, not on an INTERVIEW where IGNORANT PEOPLE would read it and feel "Hey, if HE can say it SO can i!". it's got nothing to do with "BITCHING" but with RESPECT. AAs have been through ENOUGH already. They're STILL going through it. Show a little sensitivity just as he should have done. ITS NOT okay to joke about ANY ONE in a derrogatory sense. Especially if you're the Group of ppl who Opressed them in the first place!

  • Oh please wit' that black friends shit.... that's the LAMEST excuse in the book..... what Mos Def said, your actions reveals how your heart really feels.... yeah that's the case here....

  • Yeah, what a stupid excuse. I mean the idea that a racist can have an overwhelming majority of black friends is about as logical as it gets, right?

And what with regards to his "actions" makes him a racist? If your argumnt is that because he simply said Nigger mkaes him racist I'd suggest you go search for a better excuse yorself. What happens when JayZ says is over and over and over again? Is that reflective of his "actions" too, or does he get a free pass? I'm very curious.

  • That is the DUMBEST excuse in the book.... I hate when white people try to justify their racist comments wit' "I have black friends" excuse.... you can have 100 black people in your company and still hold racist views, and believe in negative stereotypes.... does he hold his "black friends" in the same regard as his white friends....

  • does he treat them wit' the same respect as his white friends???.... I honestly don't think the issue is because he said the N-Word.... but comparin' yourself to a white supremacist speaks volumes.... he's an IDIOT.... and Jay-Z sayin' the word has doesn't make what he said right.....

  • No, of course not...It just makes the people who point fingers at John Mayer hypocrites. That's all I'm trying to say.

  • So again, in keeping with your logic, the person who surrounds himself by black people is also harbouring profound hatred towards them and secretly hates their guts?

Tell me how the heck does that make sense.

  • Just because someone else said it.... doesn't make what he said right.... two wrongs don't make a right.... and yes it is possible to be racist even if you have black people in your company.... it's called an undercover/silent racist.... they might act nice to your face.... but when you're gone... they let their true feelings about you shine......

  • "it's called an undercover/silent racist"

That's by far one of the most paranoid garbage I've heard so far. You're not basing it on facts, it's just your speculative twist. You can't know what's in his heart and saying that you do just because he used a friggin word makes it all the more rediculous.

And I agree, two wrongs don't make a right. However the first "wrong"-- that is when blacks use the word-- is never criticized to the same degree in the firstplace.

  • Well you must not live in the REAL world if you havent already heard of the term Undercover Racism.... it is a fact and not speculation.... yes an undercover racist is worst than one that's upfront.... at least you know what to expect from one who is open about it.... and the whole controversy isn't just about him sayin' the N-word.... it's about his degrading statement.... there are other ways to say "I don't prefer black women" wit' out offending them....

  • Again buddy, you're just piling up speculation over speculation. You're assuming he is inherently racist because of a statement. If he doesn't outright express it; if his closest friends are blacks; and if yuo can't read his mind, then all you say is nothing more than a baseless accusation.

Also, as I said, what he said pales in comparison to what black rappers say about black women. Yet no controversy sparks from those statements, right?

  • He is just a jackass who thought he was too cool for his words.... and they ended up bitin' him in the ass....

  • He made a stupid comment trying to be witty. He apologized for it in public and in public forums. He repeatedly said how sorry he is and how he didn't mean it to spiral into that. Enough! People nowadays just look desperately for a reason to get "offended." It's like we're all back in kintergarden.

Until I hear you guys complaining so passionately about blacks using this degrading language, these outcries will fall on deaf ears. It's nothing more than sensationalism on your part.

  • He was stupid.... all over stupid.... and he only apologized because everything is in jepoardy.... this is what celebrities do in scandal.... no one is buyin' it.... when that's how he REALLY feels..... no sympathy from MUAH!...

  • Correction; YOU'RE not buying it. You just like to assume stuff without knowledge. You won't gibe him the benefit of the doubt which makes you the intolerant person in this debate. It says nothing on his motivation for coming out oin public.

I see you refuse to address my point about your hypocrisy on the matter, so I'll just drop it...

  • Of course I'm not buyin' it.... he's apologiizin' for sayin' how he really feels.... his apology sounds more like an excuse if you ask me.... there is no way to cut the corners on what he said.... he said it.... the apology isn't authentic... this isn't an assumption... it's the truth...
