Hi Teresa. I was wondering if you knew how much yarn it took to make the baby blanket. I'm wanting to make a queen size afghan from this and want to make sure I buy enough yarn. Thank you for your amazing videos!
@Knhmommy It does take a lot of yarn. I used 4 super size yarn skeins with about 1000 yards each. It did have some left over. My yarn was a light weight 4ply
THANKS TERESA, this video is great great great!!!! i've always wondered about this stitch on how it works up and here it is. You're AWESOME!!!! i was stumped on the middle valley stitch but i got!!!! All is clear to me!!! making a pillow. would like to show you my work but i don't know how to upload onto the video here. Cheers to you always!!!! :))
This video has done more to teach me how to do this Bavarian Stitch than the book I paid $15 for... however, I would like to say I'm a little frustrated that you don't do more to point out where you're talking about placing stitches. My biggest confusion occurred during the second round) I have no idea where the original stitches are to be placed ... what eye?? The video doesn't do a good enough job to show me where you are talking about.
After looking at the video and the written instructions, I'm a bit confused. In the video as you change the color, it looks like you CH 3 and do a TC in the same third stitch. In the written instructions it says, Round 3: Skipping 3 TC on the corner, *SL ST in to the next ST, CH 3. So wouldn't that mean skip 3 TC and in the next stitch (the fourth stitch) SL ST CH 3?
Hi again. No you got my point, i meant what would you do for the last row, so you answered my question perfectly, thankyou. And i have to agree with tinamarie, you are awesome!!!
@josiejopink I finished mine off with the rounded edge, cut the yarn and sew in the tail. I did not do anything extra. I may be missing what you are asking when you say finish it off.
@tjw1963 I thank you for always sharing with people their beautiful work
I love to crochet, but I'm not an expert like you .... I have my difficulties often with simple jobs .... but I am persistent, I help people pros my work, I only do things that we have step by step videos ...
Wow, thank you so much for your tutorial. I just bought a crochet book on bavarian crochet stitch last week and had to return it because no matter how many times I tried, i still didn't get it right. I was so upset because this stitch is gorgeous but then i found your video. Thanks again Teresa.

and also, how do i go from round 4 back to round 3 w/o changing color? round 4 ends in a slip stitch between the last 10 TR and before the first 6 TR, so following the pattern on the blog i would skip 3 stitches and slip stitch in the next to start the 4TRcluster, but to me that doesn't seem right. is there a way to continue to R3 from R4 w/o cutting the yarn?
please let me knowif this doesn't make sense. i'm relatively new to crochet. thank you so much for you time!
Hi there! This was a great video and I had no problem following you until you changed colors, when you said: Connect your new color "to the third stitch back," at which point I asked, "The third stitch back from WHAT?" *lol* Please clarify? :)
Hello there, is there some written instructions that we can follow along with this video.? That would be great to do both at the same time. I am trying to write out the instructions as I watch the video, it's hard.
@druidessincarnate Yes, you can work it in rows. You will work it all on one side and cut the yarn at the end of each row instead of turning and working back across.
Thank you for making a video for this stitch. It is beautiful! I saw this type of crocheting in a book, but didn't want to buy it, and it is hard trying to find directions online on how to do it. Thank you again for teaching us!
this is amazing, so if I have this correct you are just increasing on the previous rows, not joing in squares or anything... I think I will try a small baby blanket first. thanks so much... it is so pretty
Theresa, could you possibly go beyond the first 4 rows of this pattern? I am having a hard time going beyond what you show on the video. I can start it very nicely, but beyond that I am struggling.
I am glad you put this on you tube. I saw this picture of blankets and didn't want to but a book. I've been crocheting for many years and am always looking for new stitches and patterns. Was wondering if you know where I can find the combination of the shell and afghan stitch. been looking for a while since I lost all my patterns in a unfortunate flood. It was a baby sweater pattern.

hi teresa. i just signed up to youtube so i could tell you how much i appreciate your art of crocheting videos. before i viewed them, i only knew how to double crochet (how boring ; ). now i've seen so many new and interesting stitches, i don't know where to start. do you have a video on how to do a bavarian crochet stitch. thank you, again.

@cutebosycat Thank you. The video is long in length and large in size, which will be a reason why it may pause. It is not corrupt. I get it to play fine. Each individual has a different Internet connection. For example if someone were using dial-up the video may pause a lot with lower data transfer rate.
@tjw1963, the video does not play well, it gets stuck, the voice is very distorted. the voice and video go at different speeds. I have played many of your videos and this one is the only one I have problems with. Thank you for your response
Dear Teresa, I love your videos, your are a great teacher. This video, Crochet Wheel Stitch Square - Catherine's Wheel - Blanket, seems to be damaged, please take a look at it and please find out what is wrong with it. Thank you
I like the way you wrap the wool around the hook using your left hand. Excellent for your right hand wrist, even if I know that you are ambidextrous. Thank you for everything second you spend with us.
Since double crochet is taller, you will need to do more for the corner increase. You may need 4 or 6 stitches in each corner. Your corner will be even more relaxed if you use a chain, Example: 2DC, CH 2, 2 DC or 3DC, CH 2, 3 DC. Please share a picture on my FaceBook page when you are finished.
3 in just the corners or on the flat side also? And would that be 3 in each or a span of three. Sorry I have so many questions. This is my first blanket and 2nd crochet project
It would be just the corners. With this particular pattern, you will probably have a rounded corner. You may want to consider working 2 single crochet in about 5 stitches on each corner. The flat sides will be 1 sc in each stitch across.
To continue making it larger, you will work at least 3 single crochet in each corner on each round so it will continue to expand. If you find that the corner are starting to curl, that will mean that there is not enough increases in the corner.
Hi i have a question, i am making this blanket but i would like to make a full size version of this blanket. I was wondering i have come to the point where i want to make the blanket just grow with simple stitches,.... could you help me in how to do that. if you have any more questions please do feel free to write back.

Love the pattern I'm giving it a try, but I'm stuck already when starting to work on the part when you change colors. I think it is working on the vallye part. How do you change colors and do i tie to connect and where would I slip stitch to start the chanin 3? Thanks.
Hi Teresa, i thank you for your tutorial. I´m from Brasil and i think you woul like to know that even here so far, you have an audience. All of your videos are very easy to follow up. Please, keep teaching us !
I LOVE the look of this pattern :). Hopefully I'll be able to try out soon. My current project has turned out to be more tedious than expected, so it might be awhile before I get around to this. Thanks for the video, I look forward to trying it out.
I'm in the process of making a blanket using various colours. Its looking really good, I like it a lot and I really wanted to thank you for your great tutorials.
Even I can follow your instructions and haven't been too experienced before I found your videos :)
I have just finished Round 12 and it starts looking like a blanket ;)
Hi Teresa, Its ok I managed to get it. It must be something with youtube because it happened on all the tutorials i wanted to watch. Its ok now and am just about to watch part 2. Thanks again.
Teresa, I have tried to watch the tutorial but have not been able to. My husband has checked to make sure our system is ok but for some reason, the wheel stitch square tutorial wont work. I am getting envious of everyone watching it, what can I do!
Is that the only one that you are having trouble with? I know when the video's are large, they may take some time to stream in to the computer. I will get some herky-jerky video's when I watch other Youtubers at times. The other thing you can try is clicking on the HD/HQ to the lower right of the video. Sometimes that may make a difference. I have a part 2 of this video also. Is part 2 working?
oooh, I have about 11 rows of 120 stitches done and on one end of my project, the rows looks as if they're slanted and it looks terrible...Im thinking I might have not stitched as many stitches in one row as I did in the others...what do you mean by ripping the round??? Thank you soooooo much!
hi, i have a question. Im in the process of making a blanket and one end of my blanket is uneven. The stitches are slanted. Is there any way I can even up the end of my blanket without having to undo all of my work?? Thanks!
What do you mean uneven? Have you missed stitches? You can trace back and try to see where your error is so you know what you have missed. It will also teach you what to look for and how to prevent it in the future. In order to even it out, you will probably have to rip rounds or your whole afghan will be uneven.
I like the way this looks! I must say though, I never aquired a j hook. I really must make this. This looks as though it takes A LOT of yarn. Does it?
It is not necessary for you to use a size J hook. You can use any size hook that you have in your hook collection for practicing. I have been using larger hooks so the process of the stitch will show up larger and better on camera. This being a heavier stitch and using more yarn, you may find that a larger hook will work better.
This is really awesome!! ! I will be doing this square soon. I love your videos, they are clear and comprehensive, very thorough and I appreciate your expertise.
Thank you. I have not written instructions for this wheel stitch yet so it is in my head and on video. It is the same an the basic wheel stitch with a back post double crochet.
You are so awesome I swear!!! Love ya for the stuff you share with us=) This one is so pretty...btw, I've made about 10 of the flowers all different colors & sizes. I even used the really thin string..I think it's embroidery thread but it comes on a white plastic spool & it's about 4-5 inches tall. I plan on making hair barretts with those;) Again, thanks so smuch.
You are repeating what I have already shown. The bottom part of the wheel is 4 joined triple crochet for the corner increase. The flat side is 7 triple crochet joined. It continues to get larger each round. The top part of the wheel is 10 triple crochet in each corner and 6 triple crochet on the flat side.
Hi Teresa. I was wondering if you knew how much yarn it took to make the baby blanket. I'm wanting to make a queen size afghan from this and want to make sure I buy enough yarn. Thank you for your amazing videos!

Another thing I wanted to mention, sometimes firewalls and antivirus software will prevent video's from playing.

oooh, I have about 11 rows of 120 stitches done and on one end of my project, the rows looks as if they're slanted and it looks terrible...Im thinking I might have not stitched as many stitches in one row as I did in the others...what do you mean by ripping the round??? Thank you soooooo much!

You will have to pull the yarn out. If it is that crooked, that will be the only way to fix it. Start over from where you made the error.

hi, i have a question. Im in the process of making a blanket and one end of my blanket is uneven. The stitches are slanted. Is there any way I can even up the end of my blanket without having to undo all of my work?? Thanks!
33Muslimah 2 years ago
What do you mean uneven? Have you missed stitches? You can trace back and try to see where your error is so you know what you have missed. It will also teach you what to look for and how to prevent it in the future. In order to even it out, you will probably have to rip rounds or your whole afghan will be uneven.

I like the way this looks! I must say though, I never aquired a j hook. I really must make this. This looks as though it takes A LOT of yarn. Does it?
calcrules 2 years ago
It does use more yarn since the stitches are being worked over each other with the post stitch.

I like the way this looks! I must say though, I never aquired a j hook, so sad. I really must make this.
calcrules 2 years ago
It is not necessary for you to use a size J hook. You can use any size hook that you have in your hook collection for practicing. I have been using larger hooks so the process of the stitch will show up larger and better on camera. This being a heavier stitch and using more yarn, you may find that a larger hook will work better.

I love the look of this square, do you have written instructions for it or do you know where I can find it?
sizzlingtriumph 2 years ago

Now that I've finished what you have shown me I'm lost. I don't know what to do next.
ladysundown82 2 years ago
You are repeating what I have already shown. The bottom part of the wheel is 4 joined triple crochet for the corner increase. The flat side is 7 triple crochet joined. It continues to get larger each round. The top part of the wheel is 10 triple crochet in each corner and 6 triple crochet on the flat side.

Just to be sure, is the center eye considered to be the chain that secured the 5 stitches after the slip stitch?
LYDISANC21 2 years ago
Yes, the center eye is where you join all the stitches together.

thank you
