The new generation of 'spring valve' pressure cookers are safe safe safe... There are other safety pressure releases that kick in before the lid would blow off... This is a Fagor Duo... Believe me, everyone starts out with that fear---- that's why they came up with the improved design I guess... After just a couple times you understand it totally and it becomes a valuable kitchen tool...
