I also had one of these as my first bike when i was learning, similar age model to this clip (mine was a 94' L plate RS125R Extrema) imported to the UK from Italy. I agree with herobo123456 for a 125 its a cracker-really light and chuck-able! I grew balls on that bike...great prep to learn the ropes of what sportsbikes are all about imho. Ahhh the smell of 2 stroke in the morning!! Lavlay

Because a 2 stroke engine has to be driven warm, otherwise you might get a jamming of the piston.

Im currently riding an rs 50 (04) im 17 next month and have been offered an Aprilia rs125 chesterfield (1994). Has anyone got any advice about weather I should but it or not? Im not to sure about older bikes but i dont have the money to buy a newer one =/

you probably dont have the power valve servo and the power valve has manually been moved to open, hence the low rpm lack of power and aggressive delivery after 6000 rpm. the power valve servo smoothes the transition between power band and low rpm. either way your very lucky having a rs125. I love em!

ahaha sorry, i just bought mine and that makes me laugh, the nsr is a nice decend bike, dunno if other rs are like mine(its de-restricted and may be tuned, would guess so) but when i get to 8000 revs, it seriously turns into a rocket, exhuast goes exhuast from a gentle hum to a scream, i heard it has a valve inside that opens or summit

Lol nice grammar and spelling, and as for taking it to 8k revs... It's called a powerband.. most 2 stroke supersports have them.. Ofc the nsr also. The Rs sounds like shit compared to the NSR, is SO unreliable (good luck with yours!) and has 5 TOP END more. That's nothing. The NSR is just an all round better bike by miles nomatter what any RS owner will tell you. Anyways get a bigger bike :) GSXR 600 ftw :)

You can get a bigger bike and restrict it to 33bhp once you pass your A2 like I have done. Previous comments show you have a serious lack of knowledge about bikes. Well, the RS125 is actually a very reliable motorcyle as long as you do the following.

* Use top quality FULLY SYNTHETIC oil (Castrol 2T TTS is a good start, around £13 ($26) a bottle)

* Allow the engine to warm up fully before going above 5000 RPM and 30% Throttle.

* Every 10,000miles (16,000Km, it's suggested you get a new cylinder + piston, from a company such as Mikata. There are cheaper alternatives, but they don't have the quality.

it would be great if we should change the piston in every 16.000km... i suggest piston is needed to change in every 10.000km but i prefer if you change it earlier because it can break your cylinder too :S

Well, yes you can change it earlier, but the service manual suggests it's checked at 5000miles (8000Km) and then changed at the 10000mile (16000Km).

If you covered the milage in the warranty period and followed the service scheduele you could claim a new engine ;)

sort of in the same situation mate.. you will pick it up.. best thing to do is to go "scrambling" or dirt biking for a day with your mates.. a good day out plus they'll teach you how to use a manual bike. that's what i'm planning on doing in the summer.. im 16 on a piaggio zip. want a geared bike though. see if u can go dirt biking somewhere for a day and learn it then. it's a good exuse =)
