I miss the old CBS Evening News theme. That was by far the best. The new one is good too, but doesn't match the previous theme.

I also really like ABC's theme, it's easy to whistle! Not a big fan of NBC's. They should go back to the Huntley Brinkley theme, from Beethoven's Symphony # 9

@brian5064 A remix of Beethoven's 9th is currently used by Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, so it's unlikely they will reuse it for Nightly News. Also, because audio/visual presentation matters so much in today's news, NBC will probably stick with a theme they can call their own, at least until the copyright expires.

I regret the old CBS Evening news with Dan Rather in 1987 and fo me the NBC Nightly news is still the best. It's my opinon.

I hear Pelican Brief and Far and Away in the CBS theme. It is pretty awesome but I have to go with Williams for the Best. The ABC theme is a joke.

To each their own, I suppose. I love both the CBS and NBC news themes. I really can't pick between the two. The ABC news theme, however, is forgettable. I love James Horner and John Williams...

The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric is by far the BESTEST BEST evening newscast. She delivers the news in a way that doesn't feel "whatever". She has emotions and it's amazing to be strong enough to show emotions and say what you think. Other anchors cannot do the same 'cause they are so "whatever"!

Does anyone have the "NBC Chimes" theme ("Today on NBC") from the late 70s early '80s ? Started with Brokaw and was used for awhile with Bryant Gumbel.

If I may, these are NOT the "national bulletin" themes. These are the themes to the Network nightly news casts. Although you put that in your description, the title is confusing. I was expecting the "SPECIAL REPORT" themes.

James Horner did an excellent job on the CBS Evening News theme. By far the best.

It's made by James Horner so he uses Horns in the theme, so it sounds like Brian Williams is saving Katie Couric from the "building edge" (to better understand it, it means it sounds like a soundtrack, because of course james Horner composes orchestrations for movies). Hey fisnationstate, where did you get the themes and where do you really live, in AU or in US?

The NBC Nightly News theme (aka The Mission), is the concert version Williams plays in concerts, and not the actual recording used for the NBC broadcasts.

not what was re-orchestrated for the b. williams show in '04.

I don't like the reorchestration of the 'Nightly News' theme they did in 2007. The original 1985 theme was better.

@CHANNELMICHAEL NBC rules over CBS. In the UK we can ABC World news every night on the BBC News channel, and NBC nightly news on CNBC. In fact if you're a real geek you can watch all 3 at half past each consecutive hour starting with Brian Williams @11.30 on CNBC.
