  • by far the best.

  • Bahahahahahahaha Kiwis.

  • His Aussie accent is still better than Matthew Newton's kiwi accent in underbelly....

  • I have a picture of Jemaine's lips in my wallet...

  • I've visited the future! I love the irony, fake Aussie, fake Aussie restaurant, FOTC for the win!!!

  • Are you kidding me? I KNOW HE'S A KIWI! That's why it's called irony you dolt, because he is making a fake Aussie accent and adding a twang. The great thing is, he's not even that good at making a fake Aussie accent anyway. Way to catch the irony of the situation.

@asfshdchyxdjhbvgcuvj--- actually, most people can tell Canadians from Americans- you lose.

  • I love the fact that his Australian accent sounds really off when you listen to him normally.

  • He's a New Zealander, not Australian.

  • @geomike99 As is Sam Neil, Russell Crowe & Phar Lap...

  • It only could've been better if he said "the distant future"

  • the year 2000

  • Jamain! Austrailia?! You trayta! Well, I guess there IS no New Zealand Steakhouse.... :P

  • the kiwi fruit was named after the bird

  • John Titor wants his steak!

  • lol very profound. I love Jemaine. He's awesome.

  • These adverts are seriously unfunny. FotC is awesome but these commercials blow.

Food from the future...what...where's the funny?!

  • hahahaha

  • Kiwis.... Aussies.... Come on we are all friends!!

Lets not bicker and argue about who's from where!!

Jemaine is one of the funniest guy around

Im an Aussie and i love FotC

Especially when they have all those douche bag aussie characters.

its hilarious. And im a descendent from criminals and retarded monkeys!!

    Where's the car!

  • lol wheres the car!

  • yeah i never got where the retarded ape thing came from .

  • i dont care who knows it thats the most hilariouse Kiwi ive ever seen

  • A kiwi pretending to be an australian doing an ad for an american restaurant pretending to be australian.

Ha that is funny. I love jermain and I'm australian. Can't believe how upset some of you people are getting. Australians and Kiwi's give each other shit all the time, but we're still best of friends. That's why FOTC are always going on about Australia. It's a joke! and it's funny!

  • fruitcamel. Well said.

  • You seriously call them kiwis? I thought that was just a rumour. Then again, that rumour didn't come from the future...

  • They call themselves kiwi's, we call them kiwi's, they are kiwi's. You will never hear an aussie refer to a kiwi as a "new zealander", takes too long to say!

  • Yep it's true. They're kiwis. Haha.

Wait why IS he on a commercial for an "Aussie" restaurant?

    Either way he's amazing!

P.S. this comment is from the future.

  • alyssapanikkk, it's actually brilliant marketing. A (fake) Australian promoting a (fake) Australian restaurant. ;) I think America needs a good Kiwi food chain...

  • Ahh! Of course :D

    I understand now :P

  • That it does my friend. That it does....

  • what kind of specialty kiwi food is there?

  • @ravenhpltc242

Yes we do btw this comment is from the past.

  • @ravenhpltc242 lol georgie pie

  • because we australians dont actually sound australian on television

  • And remember, it's kiwi after our native flightless bird, not kiwi from kiwifruit. *grin* (Honestly, I've no idea why peole call the fruit plain 'kiwi'. Would you go to the fruit shop and ask for '6 passions, please?' instead of passionfruit?)

  • exactly. I miss my home in Austrailia!!!!!!

  • @fruitcamel I guess the best way for other people to relate is name other countries that have friendly competion. Like Canada and USA, or Scotland and England. Nvm terrible examples

  • when i see these commercials i think of the flight of the conchords episode at the end when theyre flippin the bird to the australian embassy.

  • lol truesies

  • HE IS FROM NEW ZEALAND!

    WHAT THE HELL?

  • thats why its funny!!

  • well peter stormare is from sweden and he did those german engineering VDUB commercials, so whatever

  • He dosen't sound austrailian AT ALL

  • Cause he's a Kiwi.

  • that's because he isn't Australian, he is from New Zealand

  • The Distant Future! The Distant Future!

  • That's funny because New Zealand (where he's from) is ahead of Australia.

It's so strange to see him advertising an Australian restaurant, to an Aussie like me it's hard to mistake that Kiwi accent.

  • I'm Canadian (alot of people tell me I have a knack for pointing out accents and understanding really heavy accents) and right away I could tell that he was from NZ not Aus.

  • BigBlueMonk3y, that's impressive you observed that, I don't think I would be able to differentiate Canadian and US accents.

  • I'm from the States and I meet Canadians all the time in HK. Can't even tell they're from Canada.

  • it;s an American resturant

  • It's American in that it is located in America, but it is modelled around Australia.

  • a very basic modeling of australia

  • hes advertising a an australian food place and hes not from australia, haha thats okay i love jemaine i love the episode of flight of the conchords where they are flipping off the australian embassy. haha love it

  • Well i think it's fine, he is a comedian its what they do and his accent isn't bad at all. New Zealanders and Australians mock eachother well, it's just the way of life man so settle down!

  • I don't get why you people think he claims to be austrlian in this video. He clearly said "its like THEY know more". So basicaly, he is demeaning his people, lol, but he isn't claiming to be australian.

  • Jemaine does a surprisingly bad Aussie accent!

  • it dosent matter us aussies always claim the good kiwis as our own. Look at good old Russell Crow

  • Yeah dude I thought Kiwis hated being called Aussies,, and then here's this dude totally pretending to be an Aussie!

To be fair, I would sell my soul for a free steak as well. from the future.

  • who cares where he is from, he accent is fucking sweet, and the food IS that good.

  • Totally an insult to Australia. First, it has nothing to do with Aussie. SECOND, they have a KIWI advertising it. Shame, shame, shame. :P

  • Thats actually the best thing I've seen. Ever.

Well done Jermaine, well done. You can even be an honarary Aussie if you like, but you probably wouldn't.

  • lol its funny tht hes not even australiian

  • Jermaine is the funniest australian ive ever seen

  • He isn't Australian, he's from New Zealand.

  • He's a Kiwi :)

  • Yeah, but I think what I really want is an Australian.. Do you guys know any?

  • lol

  • Jermaine!!! why?

  • that must kill him to say that, coz he is from new zealand

  • how many of these did he do? christ i hope he got paid a lot

  • OMG, Jemaine.

How did I miss this when it was on TV?

  • its an Australian commercial. i think Jermaine was pretending to be Australian, but really u cant tame the J dog.

  • Haha! So true. He can pretend to be whatever nationality he wants!

  • I remember a lot of these. It's hilarious now that I know he's a kiwi.

  • its jemaine not jermaine

  • oh thanks =)

  • this was from well before flight of the conchords so it's not selling out - it's supposed to be a tongue in cheek joke about australians anyway

aaand yeah his name's not jermaine

  • Haha these are so funny, it's obviously a joke on the Aussies. He's doing such a funny job at their accent.

It's kind of like a satire commercial.

I find it also more funny that a Kiwi got a job for an "Australian" franchise over an Australian... Haha.

  • that face at 0:10...priceless

  • it's from the future. the distant future- the year two thousand!

  • Jemaine's gone over to the other side!!

  • But Jemaine's not even Australian!

  • not just from the future. the distant future!

  • what do u mean technically? course we are before australia. NZ owns!

  • American Idol also started in New Zealand.

  • not american idol. There was a tv show called popstars, which first started in nz, which made a 5 person pop group. This franchise then went to Aussie, the UK, and Ireland. The producers used this base concept to form American idol, which was the search for a SINGLE artist, not to form a group. So although the blueprints started in NZ with Popstars, the claim that American Idol started in NZ is false.

  • Hes from New Zealnand!

  • I don't get this..is this an Australian steakhouse in America? Coz technically NZ is ahead of even aussie..and if this steakhouse is in Australia..then in their words everything is in the future? (but not comparedt to NZ) *confused*

  • Well, I can only only tell you what my mother told me. I was afraid of being teased for asking, even by her and my sister, but I took the chance anyway and asked if it was started in Australia or just an American restaurant with an attempt at an Aussie ambiance, and my mother told me it was actually started by an Australian family. Doggone, I don't CARE where Jemaine is from. He's funny as heck, and I LOVE eating at Outback!

  • I read an interview with Jemaine where he said that he had to do an Australian accent as the Americans expected (So over the top). He admited that it was not authentic. He said his Dad who is Australian doesn't speak like that at all. But that was what the people making the ad wanted.

  • But to tell the truth Aussies are great, ok so there a little bit geographically naive and kiwi culture inept, but that's what happens in a large country

  • are you kidding??

aussie culturally inept? we are bigger travelers than kiwis..

p.s. it is spelt "their" not "there"... bro

  • ha ha jermaine

  • lol, still sounds like a kiwi .

    legend as guy though .

  • I know he's awsome, but why would they hire a Kiwi to Promote an Aussie Restauraunt?

    It makes no sense

  • 3 words - taking the piss

  • Yes, well I have yet to differentiate an Aussie accent from a kiwi accent. I left a comment to one girl I thought was Australian, and she was a kiwi. I suppose given time I'll get it.

  • i think you have to be Aussie or kiwi to hear the difference, to us the two are like night and day. the biggest thing is kiwis pronounce thier "I's" as "U's" although they wont admit this. for eg: we say fish and chips, and they say fush und chups. haha.

  • oh and we all know that kiwis secretly want to be Australian. jemaine included haha.

IM JOKING!! in all honesty we do seem to lay claim to a lot of kiwi actors singers and comedians, but i don't think they mind really. Russell crowe (spelling?) for eg. not Australian. thanks for supplying us with extra talent!

  • LOL... both of you! X D Well, at my favorite coffee shop, the Chocolate Fish, the husband (it's owned by a couple) is from NZ. I love going there and listening to him talk. I told his wife, don't worry, I'm just happy to see all of them. I'll have to pay closer attention the next time I go for my "caffeine fix." ; )

  • Cool! Now say "fux"

  • (tilts head in confusion)... OOHHHH, I understand why you said that. I reviewed my comment I'd left you and then I was like "THAT'S why s/he said that!" That's ok, I think I'll let y'all say... " : P

"Yeah, but I think what I really want is an Australian. Do you guys know any?"

    Yeah right... MATE! : P

    X D

  • I'm the same way. I have a permanent kiwi accent now because I watch Flight of the Conchords and, since I got it this week, Eagle Vs. Shark all the time.

Everyone at my school thinks it's put-on but it's really not. I'm just like a parrot in that respect.

  • Oh my gosh, that is too funny. You're American and you've picked up a permanent kiwi accent? X D I kinda have a bit of a southern accent because of my 7 years in Arkansas (Imagine if I'm accepted to study abroad in Australia for a year X D!), and that doesn't include the 2 1/2 years time in Service. Rick Peters I think has a permanent Australian accent probably due to the 5 years he lived there as a teen. I watched a lot of "Sue Thomas F.B.Eye." shows just to listen to him talk. <3 <3 <3

  • lol.

    The kiwi's get so defensive.

Yer he is from NZ not Aus, everyone gets it.

But as flight of is the first good thing out of NZ since lord of the rings u can see why they cling on to anything good they produce.

  • clearly your ancestors were convicts

  • lol yeah, but there were more foreign immigrants arriving after original convict settlement, they mixed with the convicts. We are very distantly related to convicts :D

  • bro, a hell of a lot of stuff came from/ was invented in/ made in NZ, lots of your 'Australian' music, movies and tv shows

most of Australian culture was actually thanks to the Kiwis!

World class TV production, (which Aussie hasn't latched onto yet )thanks to the Americans

Reality TV (the first ever 'treasure island' was actually a NZ production, EFTPOS, smart cards, I could be here for weeks

  • i love the way changes his voice to sound Australian :)

    it's cool

  • HAHAHAHAHA.

  • Jemaine's dad is from Australia...

  • New Zealand is 3 hours ahead of australia

  • lol yep that's wrong

  • hahaa

I actually remember seeing this commercial on TV

  • In Flight of the Conchords He plays himself. Here he is playing an Australian. Actors do that sometimes. It's really not necessary to say the same thing everyone else says. We get it. He's from New Zealand , not Australia.

  • nudelman is right. If he were playing himself then he wouldn't reference the future at all, as he himself has documented that in the future the humans are dead. (And therefore can not eat out Outback; or, as it's called by food critics, Outhouse.)

  • You can tell when he says certain words that he's changed his accent like how he says Australia "AustRAYlia" and how he says "ahead" as apposed to "ahid" in his kiwi accent also the way he says future "futCHAH" instead of "futCHUH".

  • Ha ha. Love how well you put that: "actors do that [play people other than themselves] sometimes." Lovely!

  • jemaine has just betrayed all that new zealand stands for. and pretty much what he says in every flight of the conchords episode. still funny though

  • My friend went there last month (from Australia) and they didn't even know it was Australia Day!!! True blue Aussie Steak...MATE!!! Idiots.

  • WTF?! why would we know/care if it was australian day? its NEW ZEALAND not Australia...maybee you friend should take geography.

  • There's no outback in New Zealand...fuckwit!

  • LOL hahahahahahahahahahahaha nice comment

  • That is freakin' hilarious!

  • new zealand is ahead of australia

  • Whats funny is that the guy in this ad is from New Zealand and not Australia

  • ITS JEMAINE!! <3

  • I KNOW! LoL He's adorable, eh

  • not in the alphabet, mate.

  • Ahh, he does the best Outback commercials. Thanks for putting them up!

As for him being from New Zealand and doing an Aussie advert, what does it matter? English people do American adverts all the time. No one gives them any trouble.

  • the face he makes when he says "its from the future"

    fucking priceless

  • I am fully aware of my Canadian accent because nearly all my friends have Québec-ish accents while mine is Manitoban. I actually kind of like my accent and I really like the word Eh (if thats even a word).

I also really like beer. Its like i was born into it just because I'm Canadain. Everyone says Canadians are obsessed with beer and maple syrup. They are right.

  • he said they as in Australia, so please listen and leave him alone.

  • Traitor!!

  • he's not even Australian! this makes no sense!

  • That's why he is referring to 'they'. It makes perfect sense.. to a degree ;)

  • :D ouch...hurts. this is f.cking not right!!! ;)

  • Um we dont say "fush and chips" in nz

  • Yeah, you kinda do,and it sounds like "choops" too. You just don't hear it.

It's like here in Ireland we say tree instead of three but no-one here notices until someone english or american points it out.

It's nothing to be offended by, you should embrace it.

  • Yeah it's three, but we say tree, while English people say free, lol. Just dialects I guess.

  • xD That one was good.

  • very funny. and if they were on during the super bowl millions upon millions of ppl would recognise him so it ws probably a gd plug 4 the show

  • Omg..so weird, jemaine. Don't do that ever again.

  • The accents are similar, I'm Australian and I can slip into a Kiwi accent pretty easily. I doubt it would've been that difficult for Jemaine, he does a pretty decent job at it!

  • but jemaine is from new zealand!!!

  • he is acting... and making money. You would do an aussie accent for whatever they paid him.

  • i dont think hes trying that hard..its just kinda hard to tell between a aussie accent and a nz accent...but if they paid me, ure right i probably would do whatever accent..

  • haha... me too

  • Don't know why everyone is voting you down, guess they have never watched the FOTC episode drive by.

  • hahahahaha got that right. Now give me my red delicious.

  • Yes Americans are ignorant because we should be able to pick out subtle difference in Aussie and kiwi accents. Thats like saying Australians are ignorant for not being able to tell the difference between an Alabama accent and a North Carolina accent.

  • Or between an American and Canadian

  • right on!

  • The accent is all wrong, people from Australia are like "Where's the car?" but people from New Zealand are more like "Where's the car?"

  • nice

  • love that show

  • hahahah!!!!!

  • there both hilarious, but jermaines face is priceless "its from the future"

  • JEMaine*

  • All of you people are fucking idiots. Who the fuck cares if he's from Australia or New Zealand? It doesn't matter. It's just a fucking commercial. Oh, Internets, always making issues out of nothing.

  • why are they making him australian!!! he's a kiwI!!!!

  • I LOVE JEMAINE CLEMENT.. hes def. funnier than bret.

  • Jemaine is the best!!

  • from the future... LOL idiot... I love ya Jemaine

  • If you *love* Jemaine as much as I do, come see the song I wrote for him! It's in My Videos called "Jemaine (Flight of the Conchords)"... as if there were any other Jemaine :-)

  • all that matters is the people that wrote the commercials made a guy from new zealand to try and appear from Autralia which is dumb

  • nah man any kiwi worth their salt can do a decent piss-take of the aussie accent

  • yeh true and its same for both.

Any kiwi can do an aussie accent and any aussie can do a kiwi accent. They're not that far apart in pronounciation and Jemaine does a good job.

  • thats america for ya.

  • The guy in these outback commercials is Jemaine Clement, He's in the New Zealand folk parody band called Flight of the Conchords. They have a show on HBO now that is quite funny.

  • hes clearly irish wtf?!!? lmao hes from new zealand. nearly, good guess tho :)

  • He's trying to sound Australian in the commercial. Kiwis don't pronounce future as 'Fu-chuaaahhhh' :p He sounds different normally. Mm... what else.. yes, sheep #@$#$%% > Kangaroo #$#$%#$^. :p

  • when he did the future part i spat some of my drink out

  • hes clearly Irish..

  • There is no point saying "Kiwis say six like..." because that is from the reference point of your own accent. That is like Me saying "Aussies say six like siiiiiix". It doesn't help anyone...
