sure these guys can drift around a wide corner, but can they get inches away from objects and still keep that car sideways, work the gas and the ebrake all at the same time like i can?
@bradXshuffle Well if people make their bed in a front wheel drive sled, I guess they have to lie in it. Its not impossible to buy an FR car. All I know is I don't violently dart to the side when I take off fast from a standstill and I don't need to rip the e-brake every time to drift. All the cars I have owned my entire life have been FR, and not by coincidence either.
Oh wow !!! That is drifting alright !! no doubt abt it !! But tell me something ...... how much horsepower does it take to do that shit with Handbrake and still continue to go sideways ??? Coz the natural tendency of the FWD car would be to straighten up in the counter steer as soon as the Handbrake is released ..... but these guys somehow manage to keep it sliding !!! Make it look easy !! Japanese are insane !
@XEvilxknievilX its all because of the tiny wheels on back and that they keep the ebrake rip let off for like 2 sec and hit it again with tires that small easy to keep sideways but this is still not drifting because drifting has to do with the control with the rwd tire spin to keep you sideways this is just ass dragging lol
@XEvilxknievilX The cars only have 57 horsepower. Just a heads up.
It just takes alot of control skill to not screw something up while your sideways like that. You could always end up waiting to long and understeer or oversteer like a SOB.
The fine points for drifting a FWD are slightly different than a RWD, but the basics are the same: get the car loose in the direction you want to go, power over, recover.
AWD cars drift using the same principle. all the wheels have lost traction, you are moving sideways, and you have 2 wheels controlling where you go - in this case they happen to be in the front and you TECHNICALLY have more control due to the tendency of understeer, its just a LOT harder to do properly.
i want to respond to most of the people on this forum but i kanda can't so i will just explain this to you:
to drift is to lose grip in the rear wheels of a car, and to maintain loss of grip while turning. FWD cars can drift as you said but for much different reasons, a FWD car can drift on the premise that using the E-brake you can lose grip in the rear wheels and maintain grip in the front allowing for sliding.
You do not "power over" like in a RWD car you actually use the e brake.
When drifting RWD you don't want to lose grip in the front for it will sacue you to lose control of the turning wheels and understeer, rather in all forms of drifting only the rear wheels need to lose grip, even though the fronts usually follow suit.
you CANNOT drift in a front wheel drive car...thats not drifting..thats sliding the car and having enough power in the front of your car to pull it in the direction you are pulling the ebrake...now if you have a rear wheel drive car downshifting and giving it gas and getting the car sidways (with the force pushed from the back) allowing you to turn the steering wheel in ANY direction you want to go..is drifting. a constant force pushing the care enabling it to go in any direction..
I could be wrong, but isn't drifting sustained controlled sliding in the first place? If so then it doesn't matter which wheels are driven. Those cars keep saying AWD to me though...
well technically drifting takes place when all wheels are spinning and you have a constant power to be able to turn the car wherever you want and not touch the e-brake to go sideways. FWD cars can go sideways however its just sliding. i mean my friend thought he could drift his SRT4 with me in it but instead cranked the wheel to the left and pulled the ebrake his tires went in the direction he wanted to go and spun but the car still went foward...and yeah not a good time
LOL Well I bring it up because I have seen it done before, and there;s actually a technique for one style of it called the scandinavian flick. Sounds like your friend can powerslide but doesn't know hwo to control it.
@ScoobyImpreza17 *EXPERT ALERT* Does playing with semantics compensate for you not being able to play with your dick? The car is drifting get over it you fuckin stupid motherfucker.
thanks for the expert advice. its not drifting. this car is just sliding around so shut the fuck up. unless you drive a fwd car and think your sucha badass that you can lock up your rear wheels and slide it a little bit...thats really cool... "fail"
Why not look at what the whole car is doing rather than just the wheels. That would make more sense than splitting hairs. Youre a fag and you know nothing.
apparently i either offended you for having a FWD fail car and you think you a badass behind the wheel of it. or everytime some one is smarter than you...you get pissed at them?
it is possible, just its bit different to RWD for obv reasons. but it is possible. all u need it abit of power tho, anythin over 1.6, in my pug205 1.9gti its just 2nd gear on the approch to a corner, steer hard till ur past understeer, handbrake up, contersteer till u have control, floor it on and off. on and off the handbrake, n just drive roudn the corner, just sideways. i had the mistake once by slammin on the brakes, loosin all traction n sayin hello to a tree in my front end. was fine tho
Using E-brake to "drift"is not drifting. In FWD when you get to the corner, you accerelate and same time brake. This is called Left foot braking. On RWD you brake to cause weight swift so it forcely turns the car. Both FWD and RWD drifts are extremely hard to do right and both of them are used in racing. So anyone who says FWD drifting is lame, check the facts and say that again.
Crap, using the "handbrake", dumbshit, is a legitimate technique. Ask the man who invented the sport before you let the shit dribble out of your mouth.
@jimizhoopla Theirs cars are perfect tuned for drifting! FWD is not for noobs.^^ It make more fun than with RWD!! and 4WD is for 4x4. I hate RWD, it cost the life of my neighbour. Mercedes Benz (rwd), snow and ice, your dead!
Fwd is shit rwd are far more fun your neighbour must have been a shit driver .i have driven many rwd in snow with no problem at all fwd is for noobs and girls ..
@AEHeather That's sad to hear about your neighbor man, seriously. That being said with all due respect. It's true that to the common driver a fwd or 4wd is best in the worst conditions, however it really does rely on the circumstances and skill of the driver. I've been in rwd pickups for 5 years now since I got my DL and have become pretty savy. We get some serious winters here. The idea of having my steers and drive separated gives me confidence. If i lose one I can use the other...
@jimizhoopla no, it's more challenging and fun in drifting, u have to e brake hard and use the understeer to keep it wheel-spinning and sometimes helps the car str8n up when u've done sliding lol
@david1991rules4life Or you could try it while ignoring the e-brake like I do in my Geo, that's even more challenging. The most difficult fwd drift (in my opinion) is shift lock drifting, this makes the weight go to the front and can help break the rear tires free, almost went into a ditch doing that at 70 mph but fwd is still more fun than rwd drifts just because of the challenge. What do you think of 4wd though, that's even harder.
These cars are def. set up for FWD drift. Both have hard tires in the rear (to help it slide) and softer tires in the front for the grip and to help guide the car out of the turn.
Or look at the above video at 0.35 - 0.37 you can see the rear wheel locked and lose traction while front wheel spins and oversteer to maintain course.
Go check out power sliding. What you are describing is drifting my breaking rear wheel traction and oversteering. Power slide is by jamming rear wheel and oversteer while front wheel is throttling away.
You can Scandinavian flick, but a handbrake is far easier on tar and getting into a tighter corner. A rally car just doesn't have the traction or tire force thus making a drift far easier.
wow, those cars have such poor weight balance that thay can FWD drift. Somewhat impressive, but I prefer rear or subaru. (subaru is not AWD, its in its own class, the proper way to drive a subaru in adverse conditions is to "floor it and steer")

Drifting on dirt and drifting on bitumen are two very very different things buddy. Also on bitumen you would have a VERY hard time getting the back wheels to let go from lift off.
Watch carefully, you can see their rear wheels locked up. Lifting off couldn't get a car sideways THAT much and be able to maintain it, learn how to drive before you speak like any other noob.
any advice out there u-tube fans on how to really get a good drift with fwd?? any advice is appreciated!! for ex.. speed, weight distribution around turns, e break handeling . have much success in dry conditions around hair pin turns at say 40 to 60 mph but still having much difficulty..:P please help Onigi!!!
Why do you say that? Do you know the history behind drifting? Do you know why they "drift"? if not i can explain to you why they do it where it came from and how it helps cars who race touge. Your just un-educated on the subject.
yeah, before 1981 the Subaru Rex was a RWD. it was probably a little bit back heavy too because it looks as if they did a lot of weight reduction and because of its rearmounted 2 cylinder.
they are FWD you can see this in the back wheels and the guy ebraking and the fact that the subaru rex's as stated below were FWD. street racers dont no dick thats why they street race as opposed to racing professionally. finally, FWD DRIFTS FTW
your all retawrded its fwd, thats why they spraypainted white lines on the back tire to show the tire locking up. Pull the ebrake and drag your tires, their will b smoke
They are AWD.Notice the differance when they are entering the first left.Rear wheels burn quite well, they never smoke like this when they r locked wiht handbrake. They are pulling e-brake to start to oversteering move.
you dumb ass bitch they only make these cars fwd smart ass your so smart i bet you like 12 years old or something i bet youve never even street raced you ass hole

again, It can't power slide if it's not breaking traction by overspinning the rear wheel.

Go check out power sliding. What you are describing is drifting my breaking rear wheel traction and oversteering. Power slide is by jamming rear wheel and oversteer while front wheel is throttling away.
Archergod 3 years ago
it is not by jamming the rear wheel. it is simply oversteering when breaking traction.
so is drifting. hence why powesliding is a form of drifting even though a lot of others don't think so.
you see corvettes powersliding all the time.
do they throttle their front wheel? I dont think so
ksmin1153 3 years ago

They're just using the e-brake
kimifan06 4 years ago
drifting came from the zig-zag roads they have in the mountains of japan or where ever. just a guess though
tremer88 4 years ago
god damn, that takes so much skill. Its great how they let off the e brake every couple of secs
tremer88 4 years ago

why the fuck are you watching the videos then?
scubasteve0225 4 years ago
Why do you say that? Do you know the history behind drifting? Do you know why they "drift"? if not i can explain to you why they do it where it came from and how it helps cars who race touge. Your just un-educated on the subject.

yeeyee!

Looks like they used a bit of feint drifting accompanied by pulling the e-brake to pull this off.
i tried just simply pulling the e-brake and turning in my FWD and it doesn't slide, i'll try using a feint next time.

koreymj 4 years ago
yeah, before 1981 the Subaru Rex was a RWD. it was probably a little bit back heavy too because it looks as if they did a lot of weight reduction and because of its rearmounted 2 cylinder.

they are FWD you can see this in the back wheels and the guy ebraking and the fact that the subaru rex's as stated below were FWD. street racers dont no dick thats why they street race as opposed to racing professionally. finally, FWD DRIFTS FTW
paintballa021892 5 years ago
It's a Subaru Rex... Which is an FWD. Ask anyone.
zomgmoz 5 years ago
your all retawrded its fwd, thats why they spraypainted white lines on the back tire to show the tire locking up. Pull the ebrake and drag your tires, their will b smoke
Sr2D 5 years ago
They are AWD.Notice the differance when they are entering the first left.Rear wheels burn quite well, they never smoke like this when they r locked wiht handbrake. They are pulling e-brake to start to oversteering move.
