People need to search the definition of "contempt" and then speak as to whether you can or should be able to be held for lack of respect or reverence to a US court.

Mancow was man enough to back up that kind of talk by submitting to police treatment. He was trying to prove it wasn't that bad. Maybe you should do something like that, i.e. prove that shackles or handcuffs don't hurt that much. My experience is the authorities in the area are not likely to be sadistic but do have "accepted" methods which can be pretty painful.

If you listen closely at 4:40 some one says, "Louder, louder so they can hear you. You got to..." Immediately after you hear another person whom I assume is Mr. Hoffman say, " Ow ow MY RIB OW" ect. The first voice sounded as though it was far removed from the camera. Was it an officer or a free stater? On another note I am shocked, not appalled nor disgusted but simply shocked, by what yall are allowed to get away with there. (I'm from the great draconian commonwealth of Virginia)

Mancow was man enough to back up that kind of talk by submitting to police treatment. He was trying to prove it wasn't that bad. Maybe you should do something like that, i.e. prove that shackles or handcuffs don't hurt that much. My experience is the authorities in the area are not likely to be sadistic but do have "accepted" methods which can be pretty painful.

I can't imagine any scenario where getting hauled off to jail would feel good.
But this guy is screaming and moaning like someone who just got bayonetted in the junk. There's a big gap between "pretty painful" and "speared in the jiblets painful."
I actually feel bad for the guy. I wouldn't be surprised if his "friends" with the cameras told him this was his big opportunity, and he was naive enough to believe that going to jail is an "opportunity."

To elaborate more on my disagreement, I will concede that to maintain the status quo in ones life in the current system, one should follow as many dictates as reasonably possible. However, no one has changed the system by doing that. While I'll also concede this might not be the most noble situation in that line of thinking, it hardly deserves trotted upon.

But your missing the point. In Maine we went from 1.25 oz personal use not a misdemeanor, to 2.5oz personal use. Norml's web page still says 1.25oz and I have notified them with evidence that the law has changed for the better. 100 stoners in NH aren't gonna do something if 5000+ stoned protesters in Seattle can't get anything done. so... I know what I am talking about. oh yeah Mass legalized .5 oz of marijuana for personal use so again... seems the system works sometimes.

I don't think any court is different. However, I'm sure if moral people were arrested for violent crimes, maybe they would take the opportunity to protest their being railroaded?
I would say the difference here is that these are peaceful people who have harmed no one exemplifying the ridiculousness of the rules they have to follow enforced by their money that is being stolen from them.

thanks for the comments. As to whether or not the constabulary should be respected for their moral essence is one matter. But it is foolish to not respect their brute force. And unlike other toughies, they are socially and politically sanctioned.
Second, it might be wise for the victim in question to choose his battles more selectively. Bottom line: he ran a stop sign. Thirdly, the victim in question turned a civil proceeding into performance art. What did he expect?

He didn't get sent to jail for running a stop sign adelaid. He got sent to jail his routine in the court room.
If he had gone to court with the intention of beating his traffic ticket instead of having a pissing contest with the judge the outcome for him would have been better. He might have even got off the hook for the ticket.
Other free staters have beaten traffic tickets with the same judge. So to claim that libertarians are being persecuted by this judge is really a bad joke.

All civil disobedience involves an intentional choice. That intentional choice is made because a particular law, or practice, is immoral, and should be opposed.

Rosa Parks did absolutely break an immoral law. There is no question that what she did was the right thing. There is no question that segregation is immoral.
The gentleman in the video did not break an immoral law. He is not being persecuted because of the color of his skin, or his ethnic heritage or race, or even for his ideology.

The law is immoral because it is a violation of his rights. A law doesn't need to be discriminatory to be immoral.
Suppose there were a mandated eating and exercise schedule for everyone, or a law that locked us all up in work camps, or mandated that that everyone had to say an oath of loyalty to the president every morning.
These would be immoral laws because they violate individual rights, despite not being discriminatory. Equal opportunity tyranny is still tyranny.

No, they wanted more liberty. Representative government is perhaps an improvement over monarchy, depending on the monarch and the representatives, but it is not the be all and end all of liberty, nor is it a guarantor of individual rights.
Indeed, the very concept of "representation" is flawed. It's impossible to represent both of two people who disagree, so how could it be possible to represent thousands?
