The similarity is just the muted note you hit on every other note, I don't know what the actual name for the technique is, and one or two notes are the same. The actual tune however isn't very similar at all.

Yeah funny I never noticed this as much as I listen to both, and I play guitar pretty well. But yeah the rhythm and structure are very similar. But Thrice manages to make it sound more metal and dark to me.

I love Thrice. My favorite band. But I have to say Teppei isn't as good as Synyster. His writing by far blows Synysters out of the water, but as for fundamental sweeps and imagination, I'd say Synyster. Don't get me wrong though, Syn IMO is one of the best out there right now. A7X is very tallented, but as of now IDK. The new drummer they have to find has big shoes to fill.
