Despite his amazing success as a songwriter in the early 60s, Paul McCartney wanted to test the theory that it was the Lennon-McCartney name that made hit songs. He wrote a song “Woman” for Peter & Gordon using the pseudonym “Bernard Webb.”
@searcherboy That's the reason the musicians union eventually made a rule against miming in the UK. Of course, The Beatles and others broke the rule ALL THE TIME by playing along with pre-recorded tracks. Unbeliveably, the famous Beatles performances of Revolution and Hey Jude on the David Frost show were only partially live, as was the "Our World" broadcast of All You Need Is Love. They all did it.
Great relatively unknown song from the Lennon/McCartney catalog! Maybe Peter Asher should have taken the price tag off his Gibson J-160E guitar. Or maybe it says: "Property of John Lennon, please return after use on German TV."
RIP Gordon Waller. And thank you. Thank you so much for the body of work you left us. ...What beautiful songs, sounds, melodies, harmonies, and orchestration.
...That heaven place is assembling some kind of band up there ya know. :)
@lbfield reminds me of my first crush. My older sisters best friend. I don't know if she had any idea. I just wish I had told her. She died in a car crash a few years out of high school. So if any are looking for some advise, tell the ones you love that you love them.

I liked Peter & Gordon, they did some very good songs and their cover of Buddy Hollys "True Love Ways" was excellent, Peter is Jane Ashers brother.

@ImagineRevolution64 Interesting! But it didn't hurt the song's chances to have Peter & Gordon sing it! They were perfect for it .

Such cheesy, obvious lip-synching. Peter Asher is a mile from the mike and neither guitar is plugged in. Still, a good song and a nice clip.
