"that chef is cookin' up some pretty sweet bass lines!" LOL!!! She knows that less is MORE...as long as every note is right where it needs to be. Sensational,...what else did she do, other bands? Love the chef! TheJam should've stayed in the pot.

AC/DC and the screaming jets? holy fuck! that's how you think of Australian music. Not the go-betweens? the easybeats? INXS? midnight oils? to a less popular extent, the drones?
saw The Verlaines at the Upper Moutere hall (near Motueka) years and years ago...me a few mates and 30-40 stinking hippies..thats all...bloody brilliant gig....perfect. intelligent. pop
Just saw them last night opening for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. I think I have a new favourite band, and I don't say that often. They were fucking brilliant.
I think there's a video on here somewhere of Malkmus covering Death and the Maiden. It's a lovely idea, but the original...the original. On another note, am I the only one commenting that isn't from New Zealand? What's New Zealand like, anyway - a dumb question, I know, but there it is. I'm guessing it's not all 'Tolkein', 'The Piano' and 'Flight of the Conchords'. That's not too bad, though, actually.
When I was 16 a friend and I snuck in to the Star and Garter in Christchurch on Tuesday winter evening to catch the Verlaines on their way back from Auckland. It was this line up, around the time of the 10 o'clock ep. All I can say is life would never be the same. Stunning. Joed Out is one of my fav all time songs.
Don't you just love to see a video here now & then that has nice & smooth cameramovements and simple but effective editing? The strumming of guitars hardly ever sounded as sweet anywhere.
Is Graeme Downes still playing? I saw him about 20 years ago when the Verlaines played in some bar above K rd. We drove up from Putaruru and home afterwards pissed in an HQ.
Always enjoyed the Verlaines. They were fantastic live - lucky to see them live in Parnell, Auckland a few times in the 80s. This is my favourite Verlaines tune.

It's pretty shit, actually. Alright if you like sheep. I'm an Aussie but I lived in NZ for six years.

That doesnt mean much coming from a native of a country that produced the likes of John Farnham
Reddlyon 2 years ago
@Reddlyon We apologised for Farnham. And we did produce AC/DC and the Screaming Jets, that's gotta be worth something.
6shadow6lord6 2 years ago
Ok cool, I agree.

@Reddlyon I don't have any opinion on this song. But don't knock Whispering Jack. he's true blue he is.

too smart for the average listener; songs were mostly too complicated for the masses, who we know are asses.
