Americans are friendlier to people of other nationalities than they are to us. It's very popular right now to be anti-American. I would be considered by other Americans to be liberal-moderate, but even I am aware how critical other nations are of us. I'm glad to see a video like this. As an American studying linguistics, I want to point out that every language has its redundancies and unclear meanings. It's enough to give me nightmares for 5 lifetimes. I do understand what you're trying to say though. "Love" and "hate" can be overused and over-simplified... but I also think people's feelings are typically strong and don't reflect a higher, available vocabulary. Just my opinion. ;)

The complaint he has about a word like love having different meanings exists in most all languages. In French 'aimer' can be translated as like or love depending on context just as one small example. It's snow, the variable is the placement, which is why we would say "Falling snow" or "Snow on the ground". Snow that is melting... it's still snow, condensation in the air freezing? Yep, still snow. SNOW = NOUN FALLING/FREEZING = ADJECTIVE. Pretty sure this was back in like 3rd grade...

Americans speak English, it's "Americanisms" and perhaps slang which you speak of and not everyone does this. I have lived in Europe, been to the UK and while I could understand southern I had a harder time with English slang and more local terms, which is the same language disparity you are slamming Americans for. Ebonics, well thats another story.

I kind of agree with a lot of the Americans-who-hate-americans. I really don't like the prejudice here, I really don't like the economy and our ability (or lack thereof) to take care of everyone. It's very crappy, to be honest. Although I'm sure it could be a lot worse in other countries, but right here, right now, it's not that great, and I do hate it. I was working on my book, which has an Irish character (needs A LOT of work), and I stumbled across this video (even though it's from 2007). First off, you're cute. Second off, this video is actually kind of really helpful for me so just wanted to say that. I'm American and I also hate America, but it's probably because of the prejudice. Can't have dark skin in this country AND be poor AND be a female. It's like multiple jeopardy. But anyhow, great video.

I'm not racist, I'm actually native and we are given grants after high school to spend to go to college but many people i know just waste it and don't go to college. but i understand that there are complicated situations.

Alot of Americans were sexually, physically or verbally abused as children by their Euro nannies in the decades after WW2. . Americans took in countless Europeans, and families left fatherless by the war would have a Euro nanny while the mother worked. This was especially true in the lower classes. I had two childhood friends that committed suicide when they became teenagers because they were abused by their nannies. I'm afraid of Europeans myself, I've been abused by enough of them.

Is he kidding with English? English has more words than any other language in the world. Has he studied any other languages? The complaint he has about a word like love having different meanings exists in most all languages. In French 'aimer' can be translated as like or love depending on context just as one small example. The reason the Eskimos have 20 words for snow is because they're surrounded by it constantly. I imagine there might be African languages that have no words for it.

Also, many of the weapons used by the violent revolutionaries in the Anglo-Irish war actually were provided by America. Prior to that much of the IRA/IRB had little more than sticks. In fact, many of the group pictures taken of the early 20th century Irish rebels included people shouldering gun-shaped tree branches. I love Irish history, and I am American.

We don't need 20 different words to explain the same thing. Snow in the air vs. snow on the ground... It's snow, the variable is the placement, which is why we would say "Falling snow" or "Snow on the ground". Snow that is melting... it's still snow, condensation in the air freezing? Yep, still snow. SNOW = NOUN FALLING/FREEZING = ADJECTIVE. Pretty sure this was back in like 3rd grade...

Ad a dash, a coma, a colon, a quotation mark, add what ever you want. It's still an adjective when you use it like that. You could change it to HIKING shoes. Work shoes. Jogging shoes. FLYING shoes, hell I don't care. Still won't make a difference.
