All of you are amazing at singing...but none of you do English covers...? ;_; I like Japanese covers and all, but I like hearing takes on songs in other languages and one'd figure with 14 English speakers, more than just one would've sung a (non-Japanese) fandub! For a while, I thought all the singers on Youtube sucked. Now that I see they don't, they just do covers, not fandubs. >A<

On the bright side, I really, really like the PV and the fact that it's subbed.

@icestrawberrycream Aha, I'm just saying English covers 'cause English is my first language, but I meant covers in your native languages in general. Also, when a Japanese person sings someone else's song in Japanese, do they still get the original meaning? You can never quite get inside the head of a writer to know exactly what they were thinking as they wrote the words. I feel as if whenever anyone sings a song, they add a bit of their own meaning anyway...but I'm rambling. To each his own! ^_^

@Totalidiocy Not being able to get inside the writers head is one thing, but trying to translate a song so that it keeps it's meaning AND stays in tune with the melody is pretty much a hopeless case. I have yet to find a single song that's been able to stay completely true to the original in a dub even between European languages. I'd say making a worthy translation from Japanese to European would be pretty much impossible for a hobbyist. (depending on how picky you are)

@aryllia That's my point, though. There is no "completely true to the original", not even in a same-language cover. That's why I don't really mind when people take slight liberties with the melody (like the Fruits Basket opening dub). Or when they add some detail to the lyrics, if there aren't enough syllables (as long as you don't go too far, like Rockleetist). Some songs don't lend themselves to translation (like Aaa[etc] by Nashimoto) but some songs might be good in English, if not the same.

@ToBeAPrince Shigure's not a person but a late autumn shower (see the vid's description). it's the personification of the rain which they are asking to tell something for each other since the two characters in the song looks like they haven't met again for a long time already. (of course, this is just my interpretation)
