i know this video is a bit older but i had just recently started playing gitano by alice gomez the first movement and i think if i work at it that i will do much better than i have been. thank you for making these videos they really are helpful :)
Thank you so much for this video. I am currently working on Kevin Bobo's Rhythmic Jambalya since he will be visiting the college I attend, The University of Tennessee at Martin. I just started watching your show, but I wonder if you have any advice on playing intervals of a tenth in the bass register of the marimba. I do well with octaves in the bass but in Rhythmic Jambalya I am held back by a middle section were Mr. Bobo requires the interval of a tenth.
Thank you! I'll add your question to the list of topics to do shows on. There is a great explanation of large intervals in L.H. Stevens Method of Movement. I would check that out. It requires moving the 2nd mallet from the center of your palm to under the 3rd finger. Please tell you other percussion colleagues about the show!
I will try to spread the word. One of my professors is Dr. Andy Bliss (nief norf tv) and one of my colleagues Colby Snider so I heard many great things about Percussion Axiom TV from them. The word is getting out!
you're welcome Thomas, from John.
