Nirvana was influenced by the Pixies, Kurt Cobain has said so himself, and while I'm not a huge Sonic Youth fan, I'll give them credit when credit's due, it's bands like the Pixies and Sonic Youth that paved the way for Grunge, and alternative in general

The Pixies were one of Kurt's favorite bands. They had a huge influence on him, and he and the band were good friends. Instead of basing Nirvana on Nevermind (which took influences from the Pixies anyway), listen to Bleach or In Utero, they're much better.

But the Pixies were always semi underground and never had that ground breaking moment, but always just made good music.
I always felt the Pixies were treated as the bridesmaid & never the bride by the music industry. By far, they were the most musically-versatile of the late 80s/early 90s grunge wave. Nirvana, whilst a great band, where never a pickle on these guys.

Don't listen to the snobs who tell you that Bossanova & TLM aren't brilliant records... Oh yeah and Caribou!
People seem to forget that without the Pixies, Nirvana would never have existed. I'm a Nirvana fan, but Pixies outrank Nirvana in my book. Look at "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Kurt even said HIMSELF that he was trying to ripoff the Pixies.

@EnterTheMold; Having been young when the pixies were coming out, i would answer it like this: It's always easier to walk a path (say, for instance, through deep snow) when even one person has blazed a trail for you. Nirvana was on a "secondary" wave, one that was bigger than their predecessors, and had people who had blazed somewhat of a trail. People remember the pixies, as they should, but forget about all of the other bands who were the pixies' contemporaries, many of whom didn't make it.
If I had to make a top ten of Pixies songs (which quite frankly would be an impossible task) this one would definitely be in it! Unbelievably brilliant song, perfect in every way.

People seem to forget that without the Pixies, Nirvana would never have existed. I'm a Nirvana fan, but Pixies outrank Nirvana in my book. Look at "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Kurt even said HIMSELF that he was trying to ripoff the Pixies.

@EnterTheMold; Having been young when the pixies were coming out, i would answer it like this: It's always easier to walk a path (say, for instance, through deep snow) when even one person has blazed a trail for you. Nirvana was on a "secondary" wave, one that was bigger than their predecessors, and had people who had blazed somewhat of a trail. People remember the pixies, as they should, but forget about all of the other bands who were the pixies' contemporaries, many of whom didn't make it.
