People that appreciate the patina that's all over this footage can watch it much like they're watching an old silent film, at least visually. The vignettes of Japan are really well stitched into the music. It takes this performance and documents a lot more than just Stevie, the song or the moment. She is framed like an art deco butterfly... a Tiffany Hat Pin.
I could listen to Fleetwood Mac forever. I love Stevie. That group went through so many changes and were always consistently great. If you can find it, listen to the album Tramp...not Super Tramp. That was before FMac but that's where it all started.
thank you "Rumours " was the very first album on vinyl i bought.....spent endless hours listening wore out the needle on the record player..... love it.....
Deffinately not a good hair day . However, she sings good no matter what.I don't think those people there understood her and,she was out of her elements.I understand Stevie. How she sings and why she sings the way she does. Even why she moves the way shedoes. If she was to go back there now they might better understand her. But I think she was just tryin to get through that and move on.
@metronomic1 LOL! One of few bands that cowbell makes absolute sense. Guess that was another 70's thing, it worked. Gotta love the floor tom action too. Gave it a tribal feeling.
2:09 into it. Look at those eyes! Skipped going to see them in '77 for FREE at the Dane county Jr Fair in Madison WI. The pinheads I was with wanted to chase the east Madison skanks instead of hearing the goddess.
@MickeyYahoo I love the hair. I'm tired of everyone straightening their hair today. It's performers need bigger hair and more intense make-up on stage to be seen from the cheap seats. I think Lyndsey's hair is bigger! Best live version of this song that I've seen.
I went to see Stevie in concert last week in Boston. What a great performance. She can still sing great and she put on a great show. Loved her performance of this song and also Rhiannon, Dreams, and lots of great songs from her new album 'In Your Dreams'. I was so thrilled to see her. She will always be the best female singer of all time to me.
i would do stevie nicks shes my goddess...FYI im 18......the 70s stevie nicks i would do......fuk were can i find me a girl like that fuuukkkk i needdd a tttiiinnneee machine
yeah she looks like shes on something but who cares - trippy version of this song and it makes ME feel like I am on something lol - AHA Mic looks like Osama 5:06
stevie nicks is so beautiful...my mom always tells me that when she was in high school the album rumours had just come out and it was like THE THING. all the girls tried to dress like her! go fleetwood mac what an awesome band.
Amazing! I knew the song from Hole's cover! It's always amazing for me to discover that great songs have their history with greater former artists! Like Sympathy for the Devil. :)
Stevie Nicks musical beauty shall live on far beyond the physical beauty that she possess. She looks like a godess and sounds like an angel. Love, light and happiness to you who brings so much joy to us.
Thinking about snagging this dvd from Demonoid but wanted to see a bit of it first. Thanks for putting it up....yeah, I'll be grabbing it. Good shit, grainy and unpolished as it may be it does capture the post-Greene line-up at their height.
There are moments of near-perfect blend of grace and rage - like podiodi says, she's too mellow for most of the song. In any case, she takes Courtney Love to school - Hole's version is good, but not great.
Switching gears: IT Crowd kinda spoiled Stevie's scarf dance - whenever I see clips of her doing it I think of Jen parodying it in an episode from one of the more recent seasons.
thanks how can anyone not like that voice maybe the best ever and she still kicks ass check out soundstage 2008 still sounds great and does some zeppelin which happens 2 b the greatest band in history with the greatest musician of all time jimmy page peace out my friend
Thank god there's a surviving live clip of this track from the era of its release. Nicks has always been a great performer but she possessed some extra heavy-duty magic between 1975-79. Any live clips from that period are to be treasured like platinum!
@mtopper66 I disagree. I would say she possessed extra heavy duty magic between 1973-1982. Look at Buckingham Nicks live. Look at the Bella Donna Tour. Look at her singing wild heart back stage in 1982. I think her best friend dying in 1982 and then going extensively into coke and the klonopin is what rly fucked her up.
@abingdon66 What makes you think it's been colorized? Stevie wore that much make-up & still does. Just saw her the other night. Videos in 1977 weren't sophisticated enough or bothered to be colorized. And for all the people who say she looks wasted, she still makes those expressions & eye intensity; she's singing this great & still sounds the same way. I took video on 3/27/11 & she sounds the same! This is a bang-up performance by both she & the band. If they were on drugs it didn't matter.
@Grendelmonster8u Stevie's hair looks partly gray and so do the faces of some of the band members. Her makeup "stops" abruptly and has distinct boundaries. The colors are flat, instead of graded. Not sure if I'm using the right terms here, but when b&w videos and old films were colorized during the 1980s, many of them had these flat "poster" colors. In any case, I wasn't criticizing the performance at all.
@abingdon66 Her hair is frosted (which my mom did also then). In a 1978 concert she went back to the light brown & streaked blond look. In early 80s videos (disco era!) her make-up has distinct borders & when I saw her last Sun night & I had a close view seeing her face her blush wasn't blended as much as street make-up. There may be something to the quality of the film (Mick being real dark) & the spotlight on her. But her hair was definitely not grey then. Details may seem nitpicky, but...(:
There was something in the 70's & 80's.... must've been the coke or fuckin chernobyl but that era had THE BEST ARTISTS AND BANDS THAT EEEVERRRR walked the face of this planet... from Zeppelin to Deep Purple to Fleetwood and on and on.... u just don't get this kind of quality today. I wish I was alive back then... rock on Stevie
Wow. Amazing Fleetwood Mac and the wonderful Stevie Nicks. Completely mesmorising. 35 years on and it is still an all time favourite tune. Please tour again soon Fleetwood Mac with the classic lineup including Christine.
Yeah, who cares about the drugs, so many people were doing drugs then it's like ~shrug~. This is a good live performance and video, thanks. Definitely their peak with their '75 album and the '77 Rumours was such a great album - listened to it over and over...thought Stevie was cool.
I think that was the same year I saw them at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. I've always been a fan. I use to have posters of Stevie Nicks way back then.
@trinicanta Exactly! From the martial arts video portion (approx halfway thru) to the end. Lindsey jamps in w approx 2 min to go. Pure magic! Stevie's voice intertwines perfectly with the instrumentation. Love this live version of Gold Dust Woman. The band is playing on all cylinders....maybe even enhanced turbo charged cylinders...LOL!
Outstanding "live" version of Stevie Nicks' Gold Dust Woman. The instrumentation is crystal clear. You can really hear how the classic Fleetwood Mac, drum & baisss compliments Stevie's voice, so well, on this video. The last 2-3 minutes are pure magic.
Stevie's voice & Lindsay's guitar rock it out to the John McVie/Mick Fleetwood beat!
This is one of her peaks. The height of her powers. Also, check out the version of this song done with "Bob Welch and Friends." That version is a little more intense where this one is a bit more sublime and mellow.
@blemelin Yes, I agree woth what you said about Bob Welch and friends being more intense, but I believe I like this version better, especially the end here with Stevie vocalizing and Lindsey jamming on the guitar. Both are good though.
iIjust did that, just now,a long time ago, i wounder if they know thire song went" Doug"?
Look at what that song keeps calling,If you see her tell her Doug
an then now i said oh.I did that, I've tryed to be heard in sound from here.
and then i became a chistan, and thought all soungs arn't suppost to say doug, and all most did it in the name of the lord but then thought no then it woun't be reconized as raw.
So I decided to make it all say Doug, when ever i could.Douglas Oscar Garner
What a fucking magical voice she has, I didnt grow up in this era at all but she has a majestic soulful voice and an absolute AMAZING fucking stage presence
Her stage presence was magical....it is impossible to take your eyes off of her...
Stevie's voice has gotten alot stronger with age... no she can't hit the high notes on Rhiannon or Dreams like she once did but the rest of her range sounds so much fuller and less wobbly than it used to
I worry about the girl in this video, although it was some years ago. She is clearly so out of it. That's very sad, but I'm given to understand that she's cleaned up her act. Well, Fleetwood Mac itself is a textbook case of how you can succeed wildly inspite of yourselves ... many of the stuff that came out of Buckingham/Nicks was just so incredibly hostile, and it spilled over to the others. Makes me wonder ...
@westernjen How can you say it was so incredibly hostile. Stevie wrote some great songs that I don't think were at all hostile. Lindsey the same, although I must say that I prefer Stevie's songs over Lindsey's. This song for instance, is almost like Stevie spilling her soul, saying yes, I use cocaine. She knew it wasn't a good thing, but it is so easy to become an addict. Yes, she cleaned up her act, since, which is good.
This song is amazing <3! If you love Stevie Nicks like I do, go on to Facebook and Like the page "Get Stevie Nicks on Oprah: The Farewell Season", or write to Oprah via email requesting it, and spred the news about it! Come on, let's get our Idol on Oprah!
Fleetwood Mac is a good argument for drug legalization.

This is one of her peaks. The height of her powers. Also, check out the version of this song done with "Bob Welch and Friends." That version is a little more intense where this one is a bit more sublime and mellow.
blemelin 1 year ago

What a fucking magical voice she has, I didnt grow up in this era at all but she has a majestic soulful voice and an absolute AMAZING fucking stage presence
shane31lv 1 year ago
Her stage presence was magical....it is impossible to take your eyes off of her...
Stevie's voice has gotten alot stronger with age... no she can't hit the high notes on Rhiannon or Dreams like she once did but the rest of her range sounds so much fuller and less wobbly than it used to

I have seen Fleetwood in concert in 91, also saw Stevie by herself in 1986, lifetime fan, they are awesome!!!

Makes me wonder ...
westernjen 1 year ago
@westernjen How can you say it was so incredibly hostile. Stevie wrote some great songs that I don't think were at all hostile. Lindsey the same, although I must say that I prefer Stevie's songs over Lindsey's. This song for instance, is almost like Stevie spilling her soul, saying yes, I use cocaine. She knew it wasn't a good thing, but it is so easy to become an addict. Yes, she cleaned up her act, since, which is good.
