Sotomayor served on the board of the Mexican American Legal Defence Fund. This group along with others, lobbied congressional democrats to block Estrada's nomination. I guess "Latina's" are good enough for them, but a Honduras born guy ain't. Nobody could veto the guy, because the constitution was thrown out the window, and he never even got his up or down vote.

Sotomayor was only part of three judge panel, and didn't make the decision solely about the firefighters. That being she has shown through her alliances with certain organizations and rulings that she has made from the bench that she is for her people, and racist against all others. I remember once when I was a white college student applying for a job at MANPOWER temp agency in Crystal Lake, IL (a job I was more than qualified for 3+yrs exp). I went into this place and asked about a position I saw available on thier website and got a scornful look from the receptionist there. She handed me an 18 page application so I filled it out. 2) It increases their power and authority. Who do people go to for "justice" when they feel victimized by racism.

Sotomayor served on the board of the Mexican American Legal Defence Fund. This group along with others, lobbied congressional democrats to block Estrada's nomination. I guess "Latina's" are good enough for them, but a Honduras born guy ain't. Nobody could veto the guy, because the constitution was thrown out the window, and he never even got his up or down vote.

Thank you for that bit of enlightenment. Strangely, though, I can find no evidence that Sotomayor was involved with the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, as you claim. (Which, given the fact that she is American born, and of PUERTO RICAN heritage, is not all that surprising.) Perhaps you can shed some light on that claim.
While you're at it, perhaps you'll explain how the Constitution was torn up, given that the Senate was GOP-controlled at the time Estrada withdrew his name for the post.

While this was goin on the democrats wer claiming in the media that the republicans needed a super majority for him to have a hearing. This is nonsense, the constitution is clear where a super majority is needed and nominations arnt one of those places. republicans had a one seat majority.

I assume the super majority u mention refers to the votes required for cloture on a filibuster. I don't know what u mean when u say the Democrats claimed a super majority was "needed". I'd assume what they said is that they intended to filibuster, which would of course require 60 votes to overcome. Which is all about Senate rules, not constitutionality.

Super majority, yeah, that was all the talk at the time. The media was backin this up by acting like there was precedence for it. Constitutionally the nominee is to get a simple up or down vote, and the dems refused. The fight was just startin to heat up and Estrada withdrew his name.
This is where we get pissed cuz it seems the republicans just knuckle under and let it happin. Thats why I use terms like rip up the constitution because our system didnt seem to matter.

In the days before television was commonplace, people listened to the radio or they read. Both activities require thinking.
Now people watch television and pay close attention to style, intonation, posture, and demeanor, all of which do not require thinking, but rather feeling. So politicians (and judicial candidates) are judged on performance, but never on content. It's bad enough when the general population fails to think. It's disgraceful when our leaders do. Shame on the Senators!
