  • How ironic is it that Captain Slow is going faster then the other 2 Top Gear boys and going into space?

Well Jeremy I would like to see your Mercedes SLS fly into space.

  • Impossible to articulate he says, well he certainly is doing that

  • It is a shame that other than the pilots who train and deserve the views, this experience is wasted on dicks like May

  • What would the pilot do if his glasses fell off his face?

  • How much did BBC pay to do that?

  • I konw that the Russian Planes are far better, but I like the U2 too :)

  • WOW!!! Amazing

  • How long did this journey/escapade/experience take????? Please someone inform me...I have been trying to calculate it, but there are far too many variables... :/

  • damm it took me so long to find this one

  • Seeing your own world from above like that could indeed change your perspective on everything, it's surely one of the most emotional sceneries you could ever witness. Let's arrange for a flight like that with all the world leaders and see what happens in the week after that :P

  • Thats was phenomenal, thanks for sharing. It's also amazing to think that these aircraft have been around for decades, what they achieved back then, makes it so much more impressive.

  • What's this song????

  • That was amazing! I wish they'd show this on BBC America. This confirms my suspicion that James May is the coolest person on television in America or Britain.

  • wow

  • Beautiful! Especially love James final commments about humanity, politics etc... Think more people need to get up there to understand this.

  • i got to fly one those one day i love earth and humans being

  • i got to fly one those one day

  • Nice! Keep Looking Up....

  • WoW

  • @toxiczebra17 The pressure out side is lower than the inside of the cabin. The cabin and the suits are pressurized to keep it at regulations atmospheric conditions.

  • @NASA787: I remember flying in 767's/747 Boeing's from Ft. Wayne, IN to Ft. Myers, FL leveled flt alt at 38, 000 ft. and I always seen fog/condensation..form on the window's..yes I loved looking out the windows sitting in the Wing seat watching us tip our wings like Eagles!

+ I love America, James May, you can thank America for that ride later!

  • @WayneTown260 The most facinating thing about flight for me is able to soar in the sky and look at the iconic scenery that not many people see everyday. I love airplanes and they've been a major part of my life, and to see this video I can see that the sky is not the limit. Some people say they don't like American's and I am okay with that, but in the end it's those people whom don't care about what people say about they, but what they can do for others.

  • how much time did they spend up there?

  • USA USA. Don't hate my fellow British comrades.

  • 2:23 the STD switch

  • @mechcalvin Dude just fucking drop it. Where sitting here watching an amazing flight, and your dumbass is sitting here talking about fucking god I mean seriously. What happened to just watching and commenting about the topic at hand, what does god have to do with this.

  • exceptional

  • question: is the pressure inside of the cabins the same as it is outside, or are they wearing space suits just in case?

  • @toxiczebra17 the air is very thin at the altitudes that the U-2 flies at, so that is why they have to wear special suits

  • I think James pretty much sums it up at 9:23. If only everyone in the world could do that.

  • @heayss1: I want to go on the Youth of Eternity Tour.

+ Can I take some Cali Dank & a Vaporizer with me.. gazes in awe!

    Good post bud!

  • loved the video!

the only irritating thing is that Darth Vader is the cameraman.

  • I come back to this video every so often. It's like I need my fix or something. Really puts things into perspective. This may be my favorite video.

  • i envy him...

  • Amazing and MindBlowing!

  • 313 people are afraid of heights

  • I got that high one time. Never again. I ended up in the hospital doctors said I overdosed on acid...so you trying to tell me I wasn't in space doc?

  • waw

  • Comment removed

  • He still 8nt as high as me

  • Man this video is awesome. I wish I can do that.

  • ... i was going to make a call of duty spyplane joke, but this is just too epic ...

  • good for you james

  • wow i can honestly say i really wana do that it really blew my mind

  • 133 religious nuts disliked this.

  • @robbantheshit the fuck this means

  • @robbantheshit 2 of them being jeremy and hammond cause james didnt die

  • This is absolutely astonishing. I love space, I've got some all inclusive tickets to space. Anybody coming??? Hahahaha

  • wow ... i am speechless...

  • If you want to be a U2 pilot you better be at the top of your game and have 15,000 hrs of fighter jet flight time.

  • what about his nose itching

  • Fake ..

  • And to believe some people would rather listen to music...

  • May Contain Nuts.

  • that pilot has the coolest voice i have ever heard..!

  • 70k feet up!! what a beautiful sight to see :). Thank you for this video!!, makes me wish i could of had the support to train what i wanted to train for but my father forced me to train what he wanted me to train for! lol never did work out for him or me lol !! now-a-days im just hoping there will be civilian space travel where it doesnt break the wallet!! I would love to experience non gravity and a glimpse earth 70k feet some day!!

  • Comment removed

  • Most perfect segment ever.

  • this is fucking fake!!!!! the plane doesnt move at all...

  • @abelchavez Of course it looks like they are moving slow did you see how fucking high they were?

  • Hate James May and his bigoted sidekicks on Top Gear, but this is awesome.

  • Thats So cool! I would be scarred to go to space haha

  • 133 people are afraid of heights

  • i think we should call him Captain High now.

  • If I am ever envious of anyone, it has to be from any of the three characters in Top Gear ... what a work life they have! ... Fantastic!

  • @shayorshayorshayor: That is true.

    Sad but true.

  • Awesome

  • the fuckin' pilot had cottonmouth.

  • whats the music

  • this guy is ok the other 2 are not haha

  • Take that Flat Earth Society!

  • @shayorshayorshayor wait...are you saying that the British don't have any airbases? They don't have the U2 but they have airbases that could facilitate it. They have the facilities just not the aircraft. Plus it's Jeremy that talks shit about the US not James. They would never let Jeremy up there hahahaha.

  • that plane looks so badass !!

  • okay if i was to ppurchase a oxgen mask like james may, then get a parachute and tie myself to loads of helium ballons and popped them at this distance would i survive?

  • @minidude42700 look at this /watch?v=xsS1Z1Y4aqg you would survive

  • WHAT A VIEW!

  • no I wont SHHHHHHH You SHHHHH

  • ahhh that is soooooo awesome!!!i would totally freak out tho.hehehe

  • guys check out a new space shooter MMO - big discounts for pre order! see: minerwars.c om/?aid=20999

  • Among the GREATEST videos on Youtube.

  • our planet it's beautiful too bad we are destroying it.

  • @nemmesis316 It may take 100,000 years but nature has away of replacing itself..

Humans are like ants on a ant hill

  • Big deal! I can do that WITHOUT a high tech plane!

  • What a great job they have, once in a lifetime.

  • Fuck... these guys have the best job ever!!! Is Top Gear hiring???

  • Unbelievable.

  • captain slow is so fast! hahaha

  • What would happen if you took a black guy up in that thing?

  • @24preacherboy what are you talking about

  • Glad you enjoyed the ride Mr.May. The Apollo astronauts didn't see the earth from the moon as a dust mite. The big bang theorem had not yet been put forward. You glaze into eternity from the observation seat of a U-2 and you see nothing beyond the paltry understanding of humans? Kind of pathetic, really. There is much more at work than we mere humans can comprehend. As our total understanding of physics has been called into question by resent observations by L-L labs and CERN.

  • @GunBroker100

Are you implying you have a non-human understanding? CERN is also run by humans.... btw. Idiot.

  • @keabird111 No, Moron, I'm implying man, is his arrogance has come to think they have all the answers, when in fact, all they have done lately is disprove what they thought they knew. Humans have an infinite capacity to over estimate their own importance. Clearly, an affliction you know well. Cretin.

  • @GunBroker100

I think you miss the point. All of of your knowledge is the knowledge of man. What else can you possibly have? You may appear to have the reasoning of [say] fungus, but you can not claim to have the same knowledge.

  • @keabird111 So, if you have all the answers as you imply, then answer the question I posed. We, man, think we know many things, but lately, all science has done is call it all into question, if you can. All you are doing with this argument is prove how right I am. you cling to flawed data and theory. Say it with me, We don't know. We suspect, we expect, but the fact remains we have no fact. So, Amoeba boy, until you have real answers, don't waste my time.

  • I agree with oniro91 this is simply amazing

  • best video of utube

  • I think earth is not our true home and that is why we yearn to leave this planet. We get happy when we realize it's possible to go home (where ever that is).

  • @abbyboyone

No. It's just human curiosity. I cannot stress enough how much curiosity influences human beings. Earth will always be our home.

  • I'm truly jealous it's my dream to one day go into space - I want to go in that plane!!!

  • Wow......

  • James May I envy you so much, and I totally agree with what you had to say climbing down that ladder in the end.

  • Lucky James...

  • I thought pilots cannot have any sort of eye problem but the pilot is wearing glasses

  • @miffymichael8 Only if their sight can not be corrected to 20/20 and no effect on depth perception or astigmatism. Many pilots wear eye glasses. Including two that flew the SR-71. Many air line pilots wear glasses or contacts.

  • 3rd time ive seen this video. never gets old

  • on the other hand, we trully live in heaven. Be it funny how we are ruining it.

  • how do i get in one of these beauts?

  • i wish it was HD

  • this video is unbelievable i was speach less just about the whole time. Truely astonishing at how the world looks when you dont think of government, wars, killings, etc.

  • ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING AS CLARKSON WOULD SAY

  • Why do people dislike videos like this.?

  • i cried !!

  • 131 people think the sun revolves around the earth

  • Agreed !! this is an awesome video, it displays the true feeling of flying !!

  • what if the pilot needs to readjust his glasses? LOL

  • i cant believe they call him captain slow... bugatti veyron super sport. and and the edge of space.

  • 5:54 "the only people higher than us at the moment are the people in Jamaica"

  • Amazing vid

  • Great

  • I love flyinf when it's cloudy like that. Gliding across the clouds in that weather always feels like I am on a boat and the clouds are the vast open sea.

  • @tedman55 your completely correct, but if I may everyone stop complaint this video is absolutely beautiful I'm a grown man and I can admit that. There's so many things we know nothing about so can't we all just relax and be grade full that we have earth..

  • @Sikhitxxxfallz too bad its been cooling for 10 years.

  • To think that everyday the world is getting hotter and hotter and is going to be gone in the near future, nothing is going to be able to live here, everything will die, but yet no-one is doign anything about it.

  • Comment removed

  • seen these landing back when i was as raf/usaf fairford in 2008/9

  • These guys go really high, what happends if they go higher? Why can't one simply fly into space instead of using massive rockets?

  • @abvmoose87 the vacuum would crush it

  • @abvmoose87 No air to mix with the fuel to cause ignition in the engines

  • @AndrewMC6 ahh off course. Thanks :)

  • @abvmoose87 a reasonable question - theres no air up there, theres no air to power the engine, or make the wings fly. also each 1000 ft that you climb, requires 4 times the energy then the 1000 ft before it, hence the need for rockets.

turbine engines also stop being efficient past a certain speed which is required to get into space

  • @davery25 Why would climb 1000ft more recuire 4 times the energy? Shouldnt it be the other way around because gravity becomes less strong the farther you get from the earth?

  • @abvmoose87 you're right, what i meant to say was, each 1000 ft faster you go requires 4 times the energy then the energy before it.

the main reason is that theres no air, any higher than the 70,000 ft and it runs out of air for the wings and engines to work, but still within the reach of gravity so it would simply fall out of the sky. at 70k feet, the U2's stall speed is only about 10 km/h (yep 10kmh or 6mph) slower than the speed its going, so its already on the edge of its limits.

  • @davery25 I see, thanks

  • @abvmoose87 also someone mentioned that the space vacuum would crush it, but it wouldnt as the u-2 isn't pressurised, hence why they're wearing space suits in the cockpit.

  • It makes no sence trying to convince people that god exists or not. Everyone has his own beliefs, everyone should find out what's right for himself. So why turning around arguing, people did thousands of years ago and they will for ever. You waste your time to prove or disprove but it doesn't matter, just enjoy your lives.

  • 1:02 Chuck Norris :)

  • what a amazing country the USA is.. almost gives me tears by thinking I living in a country with the U.S as our allies :D

  • @ARBYandCHIEFSfriends As an American myself, Thank You. It's not often I see somebody complimenting my country on the interwebs.

  • Mythbusters and Top gear have best jobs in the world.

  • the best freaking place to die....just above eveyone damn

  • not everybody get see that live

  • 131 people had to scratch their face

  • The concorde could fly at that altitude, and was pressurized at that! What a shame that it had to be decomissioned..

  • COCKMONGLER IS EVIL!!!!

  • wtf!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!

  • I would love to watch this in high def on the TV. I'll keep an eye out for a re-run.

  • @iTchySkiDs Have a look at the other version of the full program I have in the playlist I mention in the description. It's also higher def. :)

  • @wasdom01 great selection in your playlist. will definitely be trawling through them tonight. appreciate the upload but YouTube high def and HDTV with HD channels are two completely different things. I want to see the atmospheric horizon it crystal clarity with my HD glasses on.

  • @iTchySkiDs HD glasses? Are you telling me I'm going to have to buy ANOTHER set of glasses besides the 3D ones I've already got?! I'm going to need to get a second job. ;)

  • @wasdom01 I'll swap ya? :P

  • @PeninsulaBoy217 yes, I thought the U-2 was familiar whilst watching this. I just recently watched a program about area 51 being the secret test base for this stealth plane. Also the base painted obscure aircraft shapes on the ground every day to confuse the spying Russians.

  • did U ever see this before?

  • jesus...are 131 ppl aliens or something?? T_T

  • does anyone know what the background music in the video is

  • speechless

  • Wow wow wow wow... no words...

  • What is the chase car for

  • @N8te18 Because the U2 is really hard to land, you need people on the ground to see and tell you what's going on.

  • My dad says Nerds rule the world.

    He's right :)

  • Most things made in america is sucky (like cars) but when it comes to aerial vehicles, it's unbeatable.

Now don't start yelling at me, I admit there might be some better things like the Russian Sukhoi Su-27 'Flanker' is a damn good plane

  • @supernoob6 If Lockheed made cars, American cars would never get a bad rep again! :P

  • Can't really call him Captain Slow any more. D:!

  • Huhhhhh ! brilliant and the most that i liked when he said that he needed to scratch his face ! LOL

  • monumental Americans just don't get it most wont watch a show unless there is a laugh track to tell them some thing is funny i love the bbc

  • Sorry guys i dont understand what is he saying about the lights of 3:00... What is that light?

  • @jmhvera100 It's light reflecting off a plane (presumably a passenger jet) flying below them. Jetliners typically cruise around 30-35,000 feet. The U2 that James is in is about 70,000 feet.

  • It is a light aircraft

  • They are not going fast just 100 knots

  • Black Sky <3

  • It s so incredible!!! Why destroying it and hate each other? We should be thanksfull and respectfull for having the chance to live on such wonderfull miracle.

  • This is awesome. Just imagine how some of the first guys that flew the U-2 felt, knowing that they were travelling deep into the USSR and would probably be mistaken for a UFO by anyone who saw them.

  • @ClamCrunchy Not really since the Russians shot one down after invading their airspace in 1960.

  • That pilot looks like my aunt

  • Wow that was amazing. I love how the sky looks from up there :)

  • sky diving at that height would be awesome.

  • The pilot is one lucky man
