  • wow this s very complicated for me. because im more fluent in hmong and english. and i want to learn a new language which is chinese. but i'll get it soon. i have a question. is madarin, taiwanese, and chines the same? please answer back. xie xie :)

  • Chinese is a language. Mandarin and Cantonese are dialects of Chinese. There are many more. Taiwanese ppl speak Manderin only their accent is a bit different and their use of phrases are different. The dialects are spoken with different accents but the writing system for EVERY dialect is the same. It is like people from New York have a different accent from people from Ohio or some other state, but we all read & write in English. Same as Chinese, there are many dialects but we all read Chinese

  • @ForeverSweetx3 Actually, Cantonese has some unique characters. Every other dialect uses the same, though.

  • @ForeverSweetx3 mainland Mandarin and Taiwanese Mandarin are considered dialects of Mandarin, but Mandarin and Cantonese are considered different languages; there are many different languages in China.

I was at a hospital once and couldn't believe there were two written signs, one in Cantonese and one in Mandarin even though--as you said--written Chinese is the same no matter the language!

  • @mephatboi Okies, first of all, I'm not trying to argue with you but i will enlighten you.

Mandarin and Cantonese are Dialects of Chinese. Dialect means : a regional variety of language distinguished by features of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation from other regional varieties and constituting together with them a single language.

So from the above definition, Cantonese and Mandarins are different dialects of Chinese b/c they share the same writing characters.

  • @mephatboi second: The signs that you say you saw were written in simplified Chinese and Traditional chinese. Like Nanashi123 says there have some words that are different like in England an elevator is called a Lift. Well the same is in Chinese, but overall the whole written language is the SAME.

Idk why you seem like you are trying to prove yourself, but please you don't have to be rude. I'm just sharing what I know as a Chinese person!

  • @bestyouNEVERhad93 Ni Hao! Basiclly manderin refers to standard Chinese, while taiwanese is a dialect spoken within local communities.

  • Hi! I love your videos! They have helped me a lot! I just had a question: I have a hard time telling the difference between the "t" sound and the "q" sound. For example, in this video, "jin tian" sounds a lot like the "t" in "tian" is a "q" to me. Do you have a video where you talk about this? (Or do they sound completely different and I am just crazy? haha) :) xie xie!

  • Nah, they're supposed to sound different (:

  • q sounds like 'ch'

    c sounds like 'ts'

t is pretty much normal sounding

  • @scottly80 The sound for q in pinyin is kind of halfway between the ch- and the t- sound in english. Position your tongue like you are about to make the t- sound then, without moving it back, try to make the ch- sound.

  • hahaha,,,,, so funny....

wo hai you bei de anpai le....

never mind, ask them later... hahaha

  • how do you say

"will" & "laugh" in chinese and whats the spelling?

  • you would normally use "hui (sounds like "hway"" for will. So "I will go swimming" would be "Wo hui qu you yong".

I don't know the verb for "to laugh" in chinese
