Thank god i'm not a fan of Barcelona. Srsly, tell me, how fun is it to watch a team passing 714 passes in the defence line? Personally i like football with speed and the first thing u do when u get the ball is go forward. Like this
heres the trick to stop them passing too much GO IN THERE and break one of thems legs then you'll see they will start getting fustrated and lose the concentration!! thumbs up!
I'm sure this is the kind of music that plays inside the Barcelona players head when keeping possession, except Messi, when he gets the ball its like some Rock type music where he starts going crazy and running everywhere
@CpatainCanuck. Sorry to disagree with your comment but FC Barcelona player know exactly what they are expected to do on the field. They pass the ball superbly against any team, including Madrid. They have mastered the art of soccer. Real Madrid has only superstars and are a great, strong team but have not reach the level of team play as Barsa.
@fico0003 lol exaclty like that and it looks like an easy thing to do theorically but if you try doing it in real life you see is not easy at all. My school team is trying to play like Barça, but it's almost like impossible
@davlor86 yeah i know. when they find themselves in tight situations they just simply coldblooded get out of them in some way that others cant. it looks simple but when there is 2 players on you, you get scared of loosing the ball, but they dont because they always find a way to get out of it.
@fico0003 But you need to be very fit right? From the looks of things, Messi and co. must go jogging at least 3 times a week. There is no way you can keep the ball and press your opponents with that intensity without being fit.
Barca are the best at possession, but during this game it has to be said they were totally closed out, they played in their own half most of the match. 1-1 says much. Its good that the barca fans are patient, but if Real Madrid played the ball in their own half for more than 2 min the fans would want something to happen! that is one big difference. Madrid cannot be criticized for their tactics in this match, its the only way to beat Barca, that is as long as they have Xavi and Iniesta.
@madridista1611 they can be shut down like against espanyol and getafe this season. The teams that run and chase them, try to tackle get punished but the teams that stay behind and form solid walls are more effective.
@madridista1611 you forgot messi ;) . and one more thing: the difference you just told is like messi vs ronaldo. messi plays football to beat the opponent and ronaldo plays football to impress fans.
whenever your coach or coaches scold you for not playing the passing game, they expect nothing less than this.
keeper - no pumping the ball up into the air
defenders- spread out wide when in possession
midfielders- inbetween gaps, 1 touch play
attackers-composed, 1touch play as well.
basically, movement off the ball is key. and then comes control and experience. i love you barcelona for making me understand what my coach always expects of me and my team.
u did not sow the goal??? hahahaha what district of madrid do u live in and why would madrid think it is wrong? cos they cant do it themselves....wanna see them do possessio
I'm a Manchester United and Real Madrid supporter and Barcelona is by far my worst ever enemies compare to Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
@Skit20 Real madrid champion's league trophies are just BIG BIG bullshit they won 6 CL in between 1956 and 1966 out of 9. It was at a time when UCL was played by 5 teams only.. If barcelona plays a competion with only five teams we'll win every single one of them for at least 10 years.. So please just do not bring up the champions league bullshit story..

I hope that what I say do not feel bad, but in England, no midfielders like Xavi or Iniesta (I do not mean better or worse, just like that) his style is "move, move, and move the ball, which when they get tired of running, any hole will open, "pep Guardiola
The main reason is that chasing the ball is far more exhausting than offering yourself for the pass, even though run distance is very close. Also, the opponent can't score while you keep the ball.
i agree passing it back is'nt bad at all it allows time for forward players to move into different area's and u still maintain possession.keeping the ball is key..

That's the reason why Barca score a lot of goals! Cheers!
This was done in response to an uber defensive system by the tampa bay lightening...thankfully this is extremely rare in the nhl. If you want to see exciting possession in the offensive zone see the Sedin Twins: nVVZ1PpcrE8
Sure it takes skill to control the ball...but when it's being done on your own side of the field IT IS extremely dull. And it doesn't take that much skill to pass the ball between three or four defenders when there are only 2 forwards (at most) chasing the ball.
@yoplester I'm not saying that Barcelona is not a great team. But playing keepaway on their own end of the field (which they are doing for half of this video) is a COMPLETE waste of time for everyone involved. The opposition isn't going to attack the ball because they know they can't recover it there from a team like Barcelona. And Barcelona isn't exactly creating any scoring opportunities 70 yards from the goal.
@CpatainCanuck sorry i dont agree. they are not piontlessly knocking it around the park for no reason, they are knocking it around untill that killer pass is on and that killer ball is available. against smaller teams, that killer pass will be available and created in only a few passes, but against a team like madrid who are constantly trying to close down players and track them, it will take alot longer untill that one pass that will unlock a solid defence is on. U know what i mean?
@wodney69 not only that, the smaller passes drags the opposition players out of position and as the game progresses, they get tired because they are chasing the ball, barca are totally clinical at rolling over teams in the second half after a tight first half.
@wodney69 the main reason for the constant movement of the ball is to frustrate the other team and make them fatigue. Both those things will lead to the 'killer pass' you are talking about.. the pass is created, it doesn't just happen and an on form barcelona will be more comfortable against the teams that are constantly pressing to close the ball down
@wodney69 makes sense, but this still is not a good example of barcas possession, at least the first half of the video... it's pretty much good marking from madrid they were kept in their own half for a while
@wodney69 you are very wrong, you are probably English, and no wonder you say that, what you mean by touch midfield, lampard or gerrard is that act of seconds rather forwards, such as Cesc in Barcelona. the sense of barcelona football is being a bit, wear down opponents, and to run them when you think you get the goals barcelona,if you controlled the ball well, ending the opposing defense to make mistakes, many of them the result of the fatigue, that is the barcelona, tiki taka
@wodney69 This led the Barcelona game, is just as effective or more in tightly closed defenses, defenses that small teams.
I hope that what I say do not feel bad, but in England, no midfielders like Xavi or Iniesta (I do not mean better or worse, just like that) his style is "move, move, and move the ball, which when they get tired of running, any hole will open, "pep Guardiola
@CpatainCanuck the smaller passes drags the opposition players out of position and as the game progresses, they get tired because they are chasing the ball, barca are totally clinical at rolling over teams in the second half after a tight first half. the key point is that this tactic allows barca to dictate the tempo of the game and make the other team lose their concentration, its a tactic that you cant doubt because its what they've used to become possibly the greatest club side ever.
@CpatainCanuck possession, positioning, passing, timing and killer passes are the tactics to dominate teams like Real, which Morinho playing them to condense players, high density pressure and quick counter-attack. They understand that Real players have better speed quality and physical, so holding possession and not-to-lose the ball will minimum the chances they being counter-attacked while finding the right timing, AND YOU DON"T EVEN KNOW
@CPJMovies this is boring football. watching nothing happen for terribly long moments is boring won't you agree? People normally want to see back-n-forth, attacking football. But, to say that it is "boring", by no means states that it is not effective. This infuriatingly patient style of football is so effective they have won everything possible. The second half of the 2011 CL Final against ManU proved that Barca can step on the accelerator whenever they wish, and when they do, it's beautiful.
Fans sometimes make players haste and make mistakes. Crowds push them to be offensive and "entertain" while sometimes the best thing u can do is give the ball to your defense or even the keeper and start a new attack with calm. They ignore all pressure from outside the field and build their game in peace. That also kills (psychologicaly) the other team for spend most of the time running after the ball than with it on their feet.
@mcatv Which in turn kills the entire point of the game, unless you're just there to see a win rather than some exciting football. It takes great skill and at times can be beautiful to watch, but overall it's making the game very dull.
What do you want more, trophies and medals or to please the people paying to watch you play? No prizes for the answer to that in modern day football.
@scaryninja1693 I enjoy to see this, aswell as i love to see some skills. People who never go to a stadium hates what we see here, because it´s boring for them. I love this sport even if the match ends 0 - 0. I enjoy it´s full content. Passes, goals, keeper´s saves, etc. People who cant appreciate it should stay at home and watch Youtube videos showing nearly 9 minutes of skils and more skills only.
@mcatv I've been to stadiums and seen Barca play. One look around told a story, the majority of the people I could see were, by the 60th minute, talking amongst themselves, glancing over only every so often at the football. They were bored.
I enjoy all of that as well. I just prefer it when it's a "game", you watch for the competition and emotional tie with your team as well as for the sport. It's 'a' way, not 'the' way to play football. Two sides are more interesting to watch than one.
@scaryninja1693 About your 1st tatement i just imagine they go to see a show and not a football match. They expect to see miracles the 90 minutes the match lasts. And of corse i enjoy also a tight match, with both keepers working hard. I never said i dont like it. I just say that if one side has a huge possession talks about a gamestyle worth to watch, also how they move shile passing. One thing is a team afraid to attack, another thing is a team wich prefers to not bet the ball.
@mcatv They hope to see miracles rather than expect. That's part of the thrill, that you may come away saying "I was there when x scored a goal like x". I know that the game style is impressive, however it is just too dull for my liking.
It is possible to combine passing philosophy with pace and maintain a balanced game, Arsenal for example. Sure they lack the discipline and training to perfection, but the style of play is far more exhilerating, even for a non- Arsenal fan such as myself.
Me aburroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
now ppl are complaining that this video only shows barca only hold possession in their defense line? when against a team like real madrid, u don't take risks and play the ball immediately at the opponent's half. u have to lure them to come to ur area and then pass accurately when there's a gap in the midfield. this is when xavi-iniesta combination and Messi's individual play can be very very dangerous. for opponent's team, FOCUS is the only way to overcome barca's possession play
If i can give you guys a tip: Go watch a barca training. You will see the one touch artits doing their job. believe me its amazing, I have never seen something like that, if you a football fan i guaranteed its a adventure of a lifetime.
@Xzigy Then dont watch it! This is how good football should be played! They tryd since 1970 to make the perfect football team, ad they where close sometimes, But this barca is really the perfect example of football!
but its not all about keeping the play, its about keeping the game in opponents half of the pitch aswell. Watch how often they play back to the line or just play one to another and again back to the starter. Sometimes 2 players pass the ball more than 5 times at theirselves
I agree all that possession and they didnt even win the game?
Although i will say that barcelona plays amazing possession play.
If your passing the ball around your back four and defensive mid fielders for 30 min then whats the point?
What is really impressive is the mid 90's Brazilian naitonal team style of possession play. When they could speed up and slow down play at will. when they could hold on to a ball for several minutes in the opponets half... thats impressive!
@bjahava You cant compare mid90's football with 2days football! The game is ten times faster, and the spaces 10 times smaller, brazil couldn't play that football in this era. Thats why this barca is incredible, They keep posession for a long time, just to create gaps. In 2days football you get 1/1.5 seconds to think and act. In the mid 90's you had like 3/4 seconds to think and act. the hardest thing is to think and act in small area's, and barca are masters in that. Thats impressive.
Look at Madrid players. They are under big pressure trying to keep a high concentration. This is tiring and frustrating and suddenly Barcelona does a velocity change, some brilliant combinations and the goal is in. Oh, and the key is Busquets.
Total control. Looking at the comments, funny how many people don't understand the Barca way. Barcelona don't see a transition from defence to attack. They're constantly doing both, even if they're passing it around defence; look at Madrid here and you'll see why Barcelona are not rushing at all into Madrid half of the pitch. Madrid were playing at home, and they played with 9 defenders. Humiliating for them.
@JimmyGuitarist yes its good someone understands that Barca would go up if Madrid hadn't parked the bus, there was only one man higher than half field and when they would pressure they would almost instantly go back to the half line, barca kind of had no choice, but also well give credit to madrid for having the personell to park the bus, smaller teams tried and get scored on 3-0 4-0, when madrid lost 6-0 or 6-1 or something its because they tried playing evenly attacking much more, and Barca
Respond to this video... picked them apart. but yes sometimes it does get boring with all the back passing but thats mostly nadrids fault not barca's, but the transition from defence to attack is there, they just rather not risk possesion and coutnerattack for a half chance, they'll wait until the opponent is frustrated and makes a mistake so they can expose the gaps and punish..tactics at their best, this whoel game was a chess match
muy bien!!!

The opposition isn't going to attack the ball because they know they can't recover it there from a team like Barcelona. And Barcelona isn't exactly creating any scoring opportunities 70 yards from the goal.
CpatainCanuck 2 months ago
@CpatainCanuck sorry i dont agree. they are not piontlessly knocking it around the park for no reason, they are knocking it around untill that killer pass is on and that killer ball is available. against smaller teams, that killer pass will be available and created in only a few passes, but against a team like madrid who are constantly trying to close down players and track them, it will take alot longer untill that one pass that will unlock a solid defence is on. U know what i mean?
wodney69 2 months ago 44
@wodney69 not only that, the smaller passes drags the opposition players out of position and as the game progresses, they get tired because they are chasing the ball, barca are totally clinical at rolling over teams in the second half after a tight first half.
n17spurs 2 months ago
@wodney69 the main reason for the constant movement of the ball is to frustrate the other team and make them fatigue. Both those things will lead to the 'killer pass' you are talking about.. the pass is created, it doesn't just happen and an on form barcelona will be more comfortable against the teams that are constantly pressing to close the ball down
firthy17 2 months ago
@wodney69 makes sense, but this still is not a good example of barcas possession, at least the first half of the video... it's pretty much good marking from madrid they were kept in their own half for a while
matferreira133 2 months ago

That also kills (psychologicaly) the other team for spend most of the time running after the ball than with it on their feet.
mcatv 3 months ago
@mcatv Which in turn kills the entire point of the game, unless you're just there to see a win rather than some exciting football. It takes great skill and at times can be beautiful to watch, but overall it's making the game very dull.
What do you want more, trophies and medals or to please the people paying to watch you play? No prizes for the answer to that in modern day football.
scaryninja1693 3 months ago
@scaryninja1693 I enjoy to see this, aswell as i love to see some skills. People who never go to a stadium hates what we see here, because it´s boring for them. I love this sport even if the match ends 0 - 0. I enjoy it´s full content. Passes, goals, keeper´s saves, etc. People who cant appreciate it should stay at home and watch Youtube videos showing nearly 9 minutes of skils and more skills only.
mcatv 3 months ago
@mcatv I've been to stadiums and seen Barca play. One look around told a story, the majority of the people I could see were, by the 60th minute, talking amongst themselves, glancing over only every so often at the football. They were bored.
I enjoy all of that as well. I just prefer it when it's a "game", you watch for the competition and emotional tie with your team as well as for the sport. It's 'a' way, not 'the' way to play football. Two sides are more interesting to watch than one.
scaryninja1693 3 months ago
@scaryninja1693 About your 1st tatement i just imagine they go to see a show and not a football match. They expect to see miracles the 90 minutes the match lasts. And of corse i enjoy also a tight match, with both keepers working hard. I never said i dont like it. I just say that if one side has a huge possession talks about a gamestyle worth to watch, also how they move shile passing. One thing is a team afraid to attack, another thing is a team wich prefers to not bet the ball.
mcatv 3 months ago
@mcatv Sorry, mistake, "shile" supposed to be "while".
mcatv 3 months ago
@mcatv They hope to see miracles rather than expect. That's part of the thrill, that you may come away saying "I was there when x scored a goal like x". I know that the game style is impressive, however it is just too dull for my liking.
It is possible to combine passing philosophy with pace and maintain a balanced game, Arsenal for example. Sure they lack the discipline and training to perfection, but the style of play is far more exhilerating, even for a non- Arsenal fan such as myself.

now ppl are complaining that this video only shows barca only hold possession in their defense line? when against a team like real madrid, u don't take risks and play the ball immediately at the opponent's half. u have to lure them to come to ur area and then pass accurately when there's a gap in the midfield. this is when xavi-iniesta combination and Messi's individual play can be very very dangerous. for opponent's team, FOCUS is the only way to overcome barca's possession play

GOLDENBISBI 4 months ago
but its not all about keeping the play, its about keeping the game in opponents half of the pitch aswell. Watch how often they play back to the line or just play one to another and again back to the starter. Sometimes 2 players pass the ball more than 5 times at theirselves
MultiGenius86 4 months ago
@MultiGenius86
When they could speed up and slow down play at will. when they could hold on to a ball for several minutes in the opponets half... thats impressive!
bjahava 4 months ago
@bjahava You cant compare mid90's football with 2days football! The game is ten times faster, and the spaces 10 times smaller, brazil couldn't play that football in this era. Thats why this barca is incredible, They keep posession for a long time, just to create gaps. In 2days football you get 1/1.5 seconds to think and act. In the mid 90's you had like 3/4 seconds to think and act. the hardest thing is to think and act in small area's, and barca are masters in that. Thats impressive.
moluksefreefighter01 4 months ago

Look at Madrid players. They are under big pressure trying to keep a high concentration. This is tiring and frustrating and suddenly Barcelona does a velocity change, some brilliant combinations and the goal is in. Oh, and the key is Busquets.
strangenessEPR 5 months ago
Total control. Looking at the comments, funny how many people don't understand the Barca way. Barcelona don't see a transition from defence to attack. They're constantly doing both, even if they're passing it around defence; look at Madrid here and you'll see why Barcelona are not rushing at all into Madrid half of the pitch. Madrid were playing at home, and they played with 9 defenders. Humiliating for them.
JimmyGuitarist 5 months ago
@JimmyGuitarist yes its good someone understands that Barca would go up if Madrid hadn't parked the bus, there was only one man higher than half field and when they would pressure they would almost instantly go back to the half line, barca kind of had no choice, but also well give credit to madrid for having the personell to park the bus, smaller teams tried and get scored on 3-0 4-0, when madrid lost 6-0 or 6-1 or something its because they tried playing evenly attacking much more, and Barca
lalomex1123 4 months ago
Respond to this video... picked them apart. but yes sometimes it does get boring with all the back passing but thats mostly nadrids fault not barca's, but the transition from defence to attack is there, they just rather not risk possesion and coutnerattack for a half chance, they'll wait until the opponent is frustrated and makes a mistake so they can expose the gaps and punish..tactics at their best, this whoel game was a chess match
lalomex1123 4 months ago
