  • billie holiday and louis armstrong.. just fucking amazing. coming from a 16 year old.. wow.

  • Marvelous

  • Our society and especially our music has degenerated so rapidly and so magnanimously that it's nothing short of tragic. But hey, we've always got these greats to look up to and back upon. Simply brilliant music by brilliant performers! I wouldn't, haven't and won't spend a penny on today's so called 'music'...give me the good stuff baby...like this!

  • I wonder why she died... .D: Was it because of her use of drugs and alcohol?

  • amazing voice for every generation music -good evening from athens!!!

  • QUE VOS MAS GRANDIOSA ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ LO MEJOR DEL JAZZ LOS FELICITO Y SIGAN SUBIENDO ESTA CLASE DE MUSICA QUE ES LA MEJOR DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS UN BESO

  • Holiday in my opinion is the best female vocalist of all time!

  • Holiday brews the blues.

  • @atiboy1 Louis Armstrong was probably Billie Holiday's single biggest influence. So it's EXTRA nice to see that interaction. Sign of a true talent - happy to shine the spotlight on someone else..

  • Just great music.

  • God, what a pair! This is just beautiful--can you imagine being there in person hearing this? Wow!

  • I love Billie Holiday so desperately...

  • Two incomparable musicians right here.

  • You know this woman came true the BACKDOR,SHAME ON YOU AMERICA!!!She and louis Armstrong are GREAT artist, they diserve better.

  • I'm eating some SPICY ass collards while listening to this, but billie an Louie make me forget all about my burning tongue.

  • To be honest I prefer beyonce to alicia keys , the song " no one" makes me cringe each time I hear it.

  • u are right there will be no other that can sing like that they are two very special people

  • Two legends like Billie Holiday and Louis "Satchmo Pops" Armstrong together.....no need in making comparisons. You just got to leave it alone.........And LISTEN!!

  • Music was so rich and authentic then.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • passion, and pure talent.........u don't get music like this anymore.

  • my heart is sinking, this is the life i never lived. i wish, its beautiful.

  • Good old Times!

  • Classic swag.

  • @mello4eva really?!?!

  • seeing videos like this, I wish i lived back then!

  • lovely

  • Amazing, timeless...

  • Creo que es el actor mexicano,Arturo de Cordoba!"el que sale después de la toma de Billie y Armstrong

  • this is the way billie handled a song .her sultry vocal pulls you right to her as the band supports her ever so tenderly.amazing.she mastered her craft in her short 44 years.miss you billie

  • And i was just sayin that those pairs are people that are well known in both times. Holiday and Armstrong were the bread and butter back than (and still are to many such as myself), and jay-z and beyonce are well-known now. Not tryin to belittle the amazing talents of two legends, I was just stating that they are two different artists, the artist of the day and artist of all time. Billie and Louis= ARTISTS OF ALL TIME.

  • hermosos

  • Jay-Z and Beyonce < Louis and Billie. I love Jay and Beyonce but I adore Louis and Billie. Just sayin' :)

  • @lilmissmusic2012 where the hell did they come up? Their names aren't even fit to appear on the video of these legends.

  • @lilmissmusic2012

You actually put two talentless no-accounts like Jay-Z and Beyonce in the same sentence as Billie Holliday and Satchmo?

You compare the horrifying noise Beyonce makes to the pure tones Ms Holliday produced? You compare Jay-Z's mumbling, incoherent ranting and cursing to the sheer genius of Armstrong?

I might have let you get away with comparing Alicia Keys or Erykah Badu, but Beyonce? Really?

That's a total insult to black people, music and artistic talent.

    Just sayin' >:-(

  • @BlackTruthForever I disagree with you. I personally find both Beyonce and Ms Holiday to great in their respective genres and both have great voices. Then again, it is down to both of our personal preferences. So, yeah, i just personally think that Beyonce is a good singer and i disagree with you saying her songs are horrifying noise. But, i don't care what you say about Jay-Z because i didn't really like rap that much either.

  • @BlackTruthForever actually beyonce could be compared its a different time...black jazz back then was put in the same light that hip hop is put in in today's world...its just a different time in society

  • @JHop873

Oh, so Billie Holliday's father had a recording studio and engineered a career for his daughter like Beyonce's father did?

Holliday married an ex-drug dealer turned performer, turned fashion fool?

Holliday threw her co-singers under the bus and took a dump on anyone dumb enough to have helped her?

I'm sorry, I'm just wondering where these "comparisons" you were talking about are at.

Do some research about Holliday, and some research on Beyonce. They have zip in common.

  • @BlackTruthForever first calm down...im talking about as musical performers not in their personal lives 1. they are both black performers 2. they both are considered attractive performers 3. they both performed an art that a lot of people treated as for "young people"

  • @JHop873

Hello junior. I'm calm, you're the one getting him/herself worked into a lather. Glad I could clear that one up for you.

Now, I don't know if you've noticed, but music today is pure crap. It's also a large culprit in the degradation of the culture.

When art deteriorates the culture begins to rot.

People don't know crap from quality. Instead we get false equivalences, excuses and deflections. Beyonce, and those like her, are to blame.

These days life imitates art so it does matter.

  • @BlackTruthForever wow theres no use in teaching an old dog new tricks...and im def the one who seems completely calm. You just dont understand, you are so close-minded.

  • @BlackTruthForever Preach!!

  • @BlackTruthForever get em!

  • @BlackTruthForever all i can add to that is DAMMMMMN STRAIGHT!!!!

  • @BlackTruthForever I AGREE!!! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MUSIC MASTERSHIP NOT A BUSINESS PLAN. NOW DAYS THESE TWO THINGS GET CONFUSED!!!

  • @BlackTruthForever I LOVE YOUR COMMENT. VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER. How dare ppl compare Beyonce to Billie hoiday. This world grows more ignorant towards quality as the seconds pass by.

  • Her music is so true when it comes to depression and love

  • why did all the legends have to die like frank sintra, dean martin, peggy lee

    billie holiday, louis armstrong

  • @megakiller45 At least they lasted. Luckily Justin Bieber will be recycled by some more of the same shit and only leave us two or three crappy albums, while those greats triple the number and quality that trash will ever achieve.

  • @megakiller45 Cuz they were old. Old people die. Their music lives forever!

  • This is like a glimpse into another world. This was once actually POP CULTURE! This is like flawless fine art that's MUSIC

    WOW

How can this much soul exist.

    Utterly magical

    nd I'm a hip-hop head lol

  • Not her voice but how she sings reminds me of Natasha Khan in Bat For Lashes.

  • The man in the minute 1:15 is Arturo The Cordova, a great mexican actor in the gold epoque of mexican movies...

  • Billie Holiday, anos 40. Em boa forma, mas banhada pela luz da indústria cultural.

A alma de New Orleans sempre esteve muito viva por meio de sua voz.

  • In September 1946, Holiday began work on what would be her only major film New Orleans. She starred opposite Louis Armstrong and Woody Herman. Plagued by racism and McCarthyism, producer Jules Levey and script writer Herbert Biberman were pressured to lessen Holiday and Armstrong's role in the film as to not give the impression that black people created jazz. Their attempts failed because in 1947 Biberman was listed as one of the Hollywood Ten and sent to jail.

  • Where is the end of the video?

  • j'adore billie!!

  • if i could merge two women into one it would be billie holiday and dorothy dandrige

  • @Muaddid1 moi aussi

  • This is the Billie Holiday I wish to remember, a singing doll.

  • @newarkboy22 yes a very stoned satin doll. I like billie in fact i am a fan but in this clip she is clearly stoned and armstrong is keeping in timing. But it is clearly a stella performance she is rare form vocally. still sad she was all that in high as a kite.

  • @newarkboy22 I wasnt aware there was more, but i have no more to say about the subject i am made my point if you have one make it dont prompt me as if i owe you some more than a comment.

  • @justwatchingliffe What is your point? yeah she was an addict, along with so many other entertainers of the era, your comment lacks; for lack of a better word; "creativeness". Elvis, Ray charles, Michael Jackson and a whole slew of others who amazed us with their talent were addicts, Try to be more creative when stating the obvious.

  • @newarkboy22 the obvious as you call is still sad. The obvious is that she was having a moment that seemed brilliant except that she was high and we know she phoned it in, how might she had been if she were sober and on top of her game? I suppose to try to imagine would be dare i say, too obvious.

  • @newarkboy22 My first point should be clear but i can see you didnt understand. I wasnt calling her an addict one can be stoned and not be an addict I wasnt making a point of her lifestyle just her life choice to be as high as she was on stage and she is clearly two sheets to the wind here.

To the second point, and more of a comment on your post, i have news for you Elvis and Michael were prescribed their vice and it started out as a way to enhance performance NOT creativity.

  • @justwatchingliffe You don't know the extent of her addiction while she was performing in this particular video, neither do I; so give her a break, that's all I'm saying

  • @newarkboy22

I read about her life, and how sad her ending was, she is dead, but her voice is eternal....but I wish she would have had a life filled with much more love, joy and laughters.

    Peace to her soul

  • @newarkboy22 you are right i dont. I am not trying to give her a hard time since she is dead and can care less at this point i would assume. But just tell me you something please, is there no part of you that knows that she was capable of more if she has dealth with her demons instead of run from them. You think her are hearing her brilliance? Please the brilliant part is dispite herself her talent would not be quieted until she could no longer sing.

What you hear now is what haunted her life.

  • If they make a movie about Louis Armstrong, Tracy Morgan should play him.

  • @tracyblogger I can SEE him in that part too. That'd be a spin on roles for him to pull off I think. I'd like to see that too!

  • Louie Armstrong lived in Corona, Queens on 108th st between 34th Ave &Northern Blvd. for some years. I remember seeing hm when i was coming from the A&P store and I told my friend , that man looks like Louie Armstrong, she did not realized that he actually ws. with that very generous smile of his he looked at me and did just that (smiled) not a word said & i smiled back. I loved hs graveled voice. Billie and he were such a vocal item.May both legends R.I.P.

  • @MsCupid719 I live on 111th street and 49 ave lol

  • @MsCupid719 Louis Armstrong's house is preserved as the Louis Armstrong House Museum at 34-56 107th Street Corona, NY. I am planning to visit this year. Much of the furnishings are the same as when he and his wife were alive and they have audio clips of him practicing or talking with his friends. Sounds cool to me.

  • @MsCupid719 I really enjoyed reading this. You re so lucky to have been able to have seen such a great artist! Lucky you!

  • @MsCupid719 You are also lucky to have been alive during his life time! At least I had Michael Jackson to be proud of! haha

  • @MsCupid719: His wife Lucille bought the house in 1943 and Louis lived there until his death in 1971.

  • She was a goddess

  • Thank you for posting this fantastic video!

  • Looking at the crowd makes me mad. Look how pretty she is though.

  • Sweet !!! Great to catch up with these rare clips. Billie & Louis Sweet sounds, Thank you for posting.
