  • Do you need the flat part of the beltsander or can I use a drumsander, I have both.

  • great video! that is going to be a great lure!

why do you only have 2 videos? i would love to see more of your work, as i am just starting to get into lure making. your expertise would be great!

  • Ever wonder whether saving $3 was worth 3h of your life?

AKA a trip to the lake w a factory lure?

I make lures too. All kinds. But I don't recommend it for any other reason that to study the effects of various mods via trial and error.

Species like trout are picky and even if you make a lure they like, chances of you making another just the same are slim. The consistency of factory lures is a good thing for more people most of the time. Efficiency also good.

  • i made my own crankbait before, but it didnt swim right. the wobble was far too much and it tries to float up sideways during cranking. but it was a lipless crankbait. like a rattletrap without the rattle.

  • I've been carving crankbaits and topwaters for over 35 years....by HAND.....with a KNIFE and sandpaper. The lip can be made out of plexiglass or either Lexan and glued into the front slit.

Usually cedar or balsa works best for this type bait

  • how do you get the shape in the begining???

  • COOL STUFF---I'D LIKE TO MAKE THEM FOR MYSELF AND FOR SALE ON EBAY--HA!

  • what did you use to get the lure to look like it did at the beginning?

  • nice tutorial ill definately make some but how do you get it to the first shape?

  • how much does a belt sander cost?

and how much electricity does it use?

  • Great video! I have been carving lures since I was 8 yrs old. I love your style. NICE!

  • thats cedar isnt it

  • looks like a wistle

  • how do you add the lip

  • how come theres no hooks?

  • i think at the end he says... "Now all thats left is hooks painting and hand sanding".

  • maybe he hasn't got that far... that never came to mind? there are some retarded people out there.

  • @yusflava

Uhmmm cause its one of those rare lures where the fish swallows them whole and bam thats your hook!!

nooo dip shit lol you gotta put them in after you get the lure carved out and painted. lol

  • i made one like this but bigger u cought any with it

  • pretty cool

  • whats the name of that machine

  • its a belt sander i think

  • Brian...Brian The Beltsander

  • Do you just use screw eyes to attach the hooks or do you use a through wire method?

  • it needs to show how the hook is put on

  • i make them, and catch fish on them, but the whole process is quite expensive. if you do not get the bills EXACTLY right they won't work

  • that wsa a good vedio

  • Cool video. I am going to try this!

  • i'm new to fishing would one of these lures catch a flathead?

  • sure !!! my friend sometime just using a feater spoon modify by him self , but i dont know that ,me new too !!!!

  • ok cool! :)

  • sorry guy ! i just tell that what i see from the " fishing ghost " ( that"s they call them self ) , but most of their target is " snake head " , they even keep the weapon as a key chain , it works !!! but at sault water they use the lure start by " R ..." , not cheap for the lure .....may some espert joint and teach us more ? ... thanks ya ....

  • Wow r u referring to a flat head catfish crump....

  • nah mate i'm talking about the Australian Flathead its not a catfish tho

  • cool, i've got to make one! (if i have a belt sander)...

  • really cool, nice job

  • Check out the blade bait videos I have on Googlevideo Search under Blade Bait

  • those lures are a pretty nifty idea.i agree with you about price doesent matter, today the lures tend to make people atracted to them not fish and the expensive lures dont catch fish mainly because people pay out the butt for them and dont throw them where the fish are afraid of snags.your lures looks like they would catch fish.

  • Yes,.. you can find them at steelshad . com . If you will call me, I will give you a great deal! I might even bring 'em to ya! Otherwise you can just go to the website and order by PayPal, or by check or money order....

    Thanks,

    Blake

  • @fishgills41 cool vid

  • You are correct sir about the price not always being indicative of performance.....You sound like a worthy opponent....I do make a "$5" lure and I will be more than willing to challenge you to a fishing contest anywhere, anytime, and you can fish with ANYTHING you like....You will loose, and you can take the video...The SteelShad is my own product, and is the same lure I would use to whip your ass....

  • Hey man...I'm just messing with you...I actually think it's a pretty impressive feat to be so skilled at making lures...as a matter of fact I'd like to check out some of your products....do you have a website where you sell them?

  • @fishgills41 Time is money, but i do agree theres nothing like catching fish on your own goods!

  • I think I'll stick to paying $5 at Walmart instead of spending hours trying to make my own.

  • You don't need gloves when you know what you're doing, and I've been doing this for about 18 years....What do you do? By the way, I was selling lures to Wal-Mart YEARS ago....They can't afford me because they sell cheap crap that people like yourself buy....Nothing against you or walmart....Just the truth....

    Thanks for the comments.

  • My Rapalas from Walmart work better than the $20 crankbaits I've bought from Basspro and other places....price isn't always indicative of performance....so...like I said I'll stick to my cheap crap rather than your expensive crap.

  • those steelshads are a pretty nifty idea.i agree with you about price doesent matter, today the lures tend to make people atracted to them not fish and the expensive lures dont catch fish mainly because people pay out the butt for them and dont throw them where the fish are afraid of snags.your lures looks like they would catch fish.

  • @fishgills41 Walmart usually supplies products from good companies like Berkley,Papala,Yum,Zoom, and these companies professionally design their baits. Its why they make millions. And im not trying to offend or make anyone angry,I think what you do is really awesomme and its something your good at,but the Companies I mentioned dont sell crap.By they way,are you using balsa wood?

  • shouldnt he wearing a glove of some kind? cant fish with no fingers....

  • yeah, if ur a pussy whos scared of a sander, lol

  • wow you must be one big pussy if your scared of a fucking belt sander
