Don't think it's quite right to label these bands as simply 'Metal', maybe 'Death Metal' is probably more fitting. If you were to list the top 10 metal bands, Metallica and Iron Maiden would surely dominate; and without a doubt Cradle of Filth wouldn't be seen anywhere near.
However, some nice choices of bands, I have to say.
After coming back to this video after some time. I have to agree with you having Ulver up there, probably the best metal band of all time xD. And I love the reference to Kampfar, also supreme.
Ah yeah. Ulver is so underrated, it's sad. Bergtatt is an album that reeks of pure awesomeness in all directions! Although I can't really relate to their new direction of electronica/ synth/ ambient music. Still relatively good though.
Kampfar is very energetic, their music is unique, doesn't follow the usual Black Metal or Viking Metal formula. =)
Great to know you check back on videos and comment back. Awesome.
Ah... Dimmu Borgir's Stormblast. A true lasting classic symphonic black metal album of all time. Love it! Just wished they could continue that style now though... In Sorte Diaboli wasn't *that* fantastic. =\
Oh, and about Opeth live, I saw them recently in North Carolina, it was without a doubt the most beautiful thing I have EVER experienced.
And about Lopez, I agree, he had a more subtle sound, but I still though Watershed was amazing. We just have to give them time to adjust to Axenrot's more technical aspects.
You can argue that his fills are a bit too excessive at times, though. Either way a great album. Nothing beats The Apostle In Triumph though! NOTHING!
I don't really agree with this, but you had Opeth up there, who in my opinion blows every other band in existence out of the water, so its all good. I am just more of a progressive and death metal fan. But whatever, metal is metal.
Falkenbach is a great choice for #1 :) but still it must be damn hard to make a top 10, I would never be able to do that because there's too many bands I like
Hey, yeah, it was a really tough choice to squeeze out a top 10 list, I just judged based on how consistent the band's sound is, I think that's the best way to see if a band is worthy. Heh. And yes, Falkenbach kicks alot of asses. I really hope Vratyas will come up with another opus soon, been awhile since his Heralding The Fireblade album. =)
cool choices - loving the inclusion of dissection! I might check out some of the bands i hadnt heard of too. I would have had emperor in there myself though ;)
Yes, Cradle of Filth is number 10 for me. If you actually followed their sound from the beginning of their career to the current one, you will agree with my ranking. I got to say songs before Midian was hellishly good though, but now, meh. I must pay credit for Dani's lyric work though.
Anyway, it's spelt as "Dimmu Borgir", my child.
Burzum and Immortal deserve much more respect than 5th and 6th. Go listen carefully and feel the music. Come on, they have never made a bad song at all.

CoB is alright, their sound didn't quite appeal to me though. But without a doubt, Alexis Laiho is a great guitarist!

Good for you being able to watch Opeth live, Asia is perpetually ignored for metal gigs, with the glaring exception of Japan. Gah.
Perhaps, I was abit too critical about Axenrot's entrance to the band, and maybe I should be open-minded and listen to Watershed properly. =]
And, yes, The Apostle in Triumph is the paramount of perfection!
And, thanks for watching and the comments!

Yes!! Opeth! They rock, but Watershed was meh. I miss Martin Lopez, their old drummer. Nonetheless, I am dying to watch them perform live.
