One of the best Youtube contributions ever! I imagine this staying up (all 3) even after the internet is gone, our digital selves dead and cremated, the recordings decaying... but for the Ferras Sibelius Concerto, floating in the subtle atmosphere; how can the trace of a musical moment so moving be lost?
Christian Ferras (geb. 17. Juni 1933 in Le Touquet, gest. 14.
By comparing with the others, I would say this performance recorded by this video is historically amazing. Even comparing with Itzhak Perlman's, which is the undoubtedly incredible, with the sound made by extraordinary instrument, the total organization of this performance is more special, including the performance of orchestra. I guess this conductor succeeded to produce this supreme work. By compare more and more, I recommend to anyone who wants to listen Sibelius Op. 47, once listen Ferras.
I want this to be played at my funerals. Along with many other things, which will make my funerals last for days, but people, that's my death, so shut up and take the pain.

I am doing some research on Sibelius's music and trying to choose what would be my suggestions to give to the Conductior of the Allentown Philharmonic, Diane Wintry on what she might select to have the Orchestra play on an All Scandinavian Composers Night sometime in the future. This is a good selection.
I started to play violin because of this concerto, it was my favorite one and still one of my favorites (but now my favorite is the tchaikovsky violin concerto)
Ok, he's brilliant and it's a very good rendition but.... The vibrato sounds like a mosquito on cocaine. Way too much. Some friggin awaesome fingering (no giggling please :P) and bowing though.
My mum forced me to play the violin when I was 6. Absolutely hated it. Only practised when asked and my first violin teacher said I had no future in music. When I was 12, I heard a recording of Ferras playing the 1st mvt of the Tchaikovsky. Now I'm studying Music at uni...
@jb0Ogi3 I wouldn't say the violin is better than the guitar or vice versa... both are wonderful and can do things the other cannot... the choice of instrument is not which is better, but which a person prefers... if you are drawn to the guitar, then so be it. Others might prefer something else. Now take your ignorant and narrow thinking elsewhere before you start receiving a handful for your misconduct... there is STILL TIME TO DELETE YOUR COMMENT
