Then year dates were stored as 19xx (x is where you insert number) in computers, causing dates after 1/1/2000 to be stored as 1/1/1900 (19100 or other numbers also possible) but now that has changed to make all numbers x (ex. xxxxx could be year 17325). However due to limitations in the bitsystem, computers with 32-bit tech will (posibly) face simular problems about year 2036, and 64-bit about the year 23000ish 128-bit tech would last a much longer time

Once the computer's clock hit 2000 it would think the date was 1900 instead of 2000. The only reason it didn't cause any noticeable problems is because they fixed the glitch before it was too late.

@99WolfDog actually if just about everyone didnt install the programs needed to fix the y2k glitch, stuff like that couldve possibly happened. It was real but everyone was prepared.

How do u know that the world wont end in 2012. Its freakin' 2010, its the future. u cant know. But i agree with you exept the thing about 1012. It did'nt happen because there wasnt any internet then, nor day to day electronics... The Y2K may happend at 1012 and 112, but since there wasnt any electronics back then, noone noticed it. if there was a computer back then, it might've happend...

They had no proof of y2k. But they DO have proof of 2012. The sun WILL give off more radiation. and the planets WILL all aline. Nobody knows for sure if the Earth will end but we have a lot of proof. It's all because of the hole in the o-zone. I hope the world won't end on 2012 but there is more proof of it than fucking y2k.

NOTHING HAPPENED!!y2k was about 2 digits everyone 2012 cant be y2k its all about computers using 2 digits for the year so when 1999 came to 2000 the computers wouldnt know what to do and just break....but they fixed this with 4 digit year counters and were fine...but we wouldnt be if they didnt fix that... only 1% of very old computers actually broke cuz they still had 2 digit year counters

All computers were programmed to have 2 digits to show the year, and when 2000 came, the computers were supposed to say the wrong date, 01/01/19100, or 01/01/1900 it would get confused and cause a system crash, and this bug was in all computers at the time, but developers worked on fixing it and on Y2K, only minor problems happened. I hope I told everything correctly, but if you want more detail, please Google it or search it, whatever you want to do.

Not that. Traditional POSIX-compliant systems may often only allow time to be passed along in signed integers-- If you're not familiar with programming, time is often represented by the number of seconds that have elapsed since Jan 1st, 1970 (the "Unix Epoch"). The maximum number of seconds that can be held by this type of variable will max-out and restart around 2038. It isn't just a thing arising from programmer-choice this time.
