Simple, because as far as we can tell using our logic, everything must have a cause. We don't have any knowledge of anything causing itself. For our wills to be free, we would have to be making spontaneous decisions that cause themselves. It seems to me that this isnt logical, instead our decisions and wills are decided by environmental and physical factors. Free will just can't cause itself...
