when they DO gain weight they gain it just above their hips ("love handles") and then their belly starts to stick out a bit.
My boxer is 15 lbs overweight (thyroid problem, if she doesnt eat her blood sugar goes too low which means a diabetic coma, so we let her eat as much as she wants) and even at 15lbs overweight when she stretches I can see her ribs pokin out.

Boxers are generally very lean and their ribs usually don't have a lot of meat on them. Also the runt of the litter tends to be a little skinnier, which could be the case with this one.
