  • sheba's 22 yrs old? that's how old i am! (is she single? ;)

  • Shes cute oh yeah and she is the same age as me 22 years old mine january 10 1989

  • from Sheba's owner: One thing we have in our area is "hard water", so she has had calcium stains on her shell her whole life. Occasionally her shell peels, and her shell really is healthy underneath.

  • THATS NOT A TURTLE!!!!!!!!

  • So cute reminds me of my late baby turtle Pots.

He would come when I called I miss you baby!!!

  • cute, but um whats wrong with its shell ??

  • awwwww! she's so cute! and 22? wow she's adorable i have one likes yours :) he's charlie and he's only 6 and he hates me =_=

  • What a lovely turtle you have! You definitely succeeded in taking care of your little Sheba (:

  • Awh cute. Why is her shell like that though?

  • mine never follows me :s

  • can you please tell me how you have your red eared slider to be so loyal and fond to you? mine is really scared of me and I always dream of Bruce Following me around the house

  • Hey, teach her to roll over............

  • She's definately a RES but why is her shell like that? Was she bred with another turtle? A sea turtle maybe?

  • (insert Turtle joke here)

  • That turtle is really cute.

  • she so cute and smart:)

  • awesome.... my turtle is more snobby, she follows me when she feels like it lol

  • oh wow 22 years old! such a cutie!!.... mine are 6 years old in move amazing to think they were 50p and 10p size when got them!

  • AWWWWWWWWWW!!!

    :D Good girl indeed!!!

  • are you sure its a girl?

  • i want a red-eared slider very badly, my science teacher has one and they are very interesting.

  • Does he have soft shell? They are not suppose to have white patches on their shells. Or is it just cause he is 22 years old?

And wow 22 years with a turtle!!! Thats a long time. my RES is only 3 years old.

  • my turtles name is sheba too.

  • How do you tran her?

  • wow nice turtle i had one like this but i let it go near october

  • Prety turtle

  • I'm thinking about getting a turtle :P but we have stairs in our house, any way I can prevent them from slipping and falling down the stairs?

  • @Cyndrakkos They belong in tanks you .... ...

  • @Cyndrakkos You don't let a turtle loose in the house all the time like a dog. You give them a tank or a pond and you can let them free in the house sometimes.

  • The turtle is older than me now 0_0

  • Ah, you snap your fingers too to call your turtle. Mine follows me around when I do that.. probably in hope of getting food. :D

  • if i was getting a turtle what would be the nicest?!

  • if i was getting a turtle what would be the nicest?!

  • :( hope sheba's still ok this vid's over years old

  • wow this is ace !

  • wow this is ace !

  • What a great video. You have a cute turtle.

  • @11wormbig: Thank you! She's quite a

    little ham. :)

  • @industrialg how did you get it to obey the commands?

  • big :O

  • What a gorgeous turtle! <3

  • this is amazing!

i wish my turtle did this.

  • how old is she

  • DO TURTLES BITE?;/

  • It depends what the turtle feels like before it bites. Most turtles don't bite but don't take that as a fact!

  • Sometimes if they feel threatened, varies from animal to animal though, mine bit me years ago, but after they mature they seem to mellow out

  • yes they bite but only when they are either terrified or starving

  • I have 2 red eared sliders, they are about 4-5 years old and very friendly

They stay for about 4 hours in the water tank for eating then they roam around my house for the rest of the day..I feed them fish.

    Is that fine?

  • Oh wow, that was so cute! Thanks for sharing that touching video!

  • my res came to me. i was running out to class and when i opened my front door she was about 4 feet away. i live in a california suburb, so this type of thing is pretty uncommon. she was kidna banged up and dehydrated looking. i took her to the local petsmart and they didnt think she would make it. turns out they were wrong. weird thing is that 3 days prior my 23 year old cat passed away.

  • dude that shell is freaky lookin! lol. but that turtle is cool! mine is smart too. i have a giant tank and she once climbed out oftank and used the filter to climb and the wall. it was crazy. shes huge! well not HUGE but the size of a dinner plate. lol.

  • Awesome! :)

  • She is so sweet! YOU ARE A GREAT PERSON! :)

  • Thanks! That's really nice of you to say. :) Sheba has been in my life so long that I can't imagine life without her being there. A turtle is a life-long commitment! :)

  • @industrialg heck yea!!

  • It's not acting like a dog, it's just being treated like one.

  • She gets plenty of love & attention. Sheba is a member of my family. And since I am allergic to dogs & cats, she makes the perfect pet for me. :) And I don't think of her as an "it" especially since I have confirmed that Sheba is (in fact) a girl. :)

  • @industrialg I never said it didn't get love and attention just because you talked to it like a dog. I have a dog, and just because I address him as such doesn't mean I don't love my pet. But I'm saying there's a difference between your turtle displaying the behaviors of a dog, and you just calling it like a dog. And to me, I only see the later one in this video.

  • @kittenwithagun get a grip they won't do anything they don't want to

  • That's one cool turtle you got there, i also have 2 RES that i have for like 23 years, i'm 27 now and i fucking adore them.

I also don't like when owners get rid of their turtles.

  • That's awesome! So happy to hear stories like yours, about turtle owners who just keep them forever. Do your turtles follow you around too? Do you let them walk? I love being able to let Sheba out. She's so strong & big that I never worry about her getting lost in the house or in trouble.

  • Yep i let them walk in the house a bit for workout. Sadly i keep them separated because they will kill each other if i put them together.

They are male and female so i don't know why they try to kill each other, the male started bitting since 2001 (the female almost lost 1 eye in the night and the face, legs and tail was cut and bruised). I was lucky that she din't lose her eye that time, after a couple of days (out of the water with some medical lotion i put in her) she opened the eye again.

  • I know how you feel! I used to have 2 turtles as well and all they did was fight so I gave away the male and kept Sheba. The fighting was so bad between the 2 that they needed to be separated almost all the time. It was terrible. :\

  • Is she a red eared slider? Why is her shell that color?

  • She has hard water stains on her shell which turns the shell white. She is a red ear slider.

  • Rapeable.

  • is she a red ear slider

  • Yes.

  • How did you get her to be so friendly? Did you take her out daily or what?

  • Thanks for viewing! Sheba was always this friendly. I got her when she was 6 inches long & the person who had her before me took great care of her and she was obviously loved. Her personality was wonderful right from the start. :)

  • Oh I just found it very interesting to see what a personality she had. She looks like she's a great pet. Do you still have her?

  • I sure do! She's been an AWESOME pet. I love her dearly. What a ham she is. :)

  • Good. I think it's sad to see owners get rid of turtles after having them so long. I hope my Red eared sliders turn out like her lol

  • I hear ya! The longer you have them, the more domesticated they become. And I have noticed that she doesn't like everyone....the people who she doesn't like have always been shady people who I should avoid (lots of stories there). Weird how a reptile can pick up personalities of people like that.

  • I hope so I really like my turtles and knew I would be making a huge commitment getting them. That is weird. I have heard about dogs doing that but not turtle.

  • That's true that dogs do that too. I have been around Sheba for so long that I see her body language. Some people she just doesn't care about. Others she can't stand. Then there are the ones she REALLY likes: it's like she is trying to crawl out of her shell to get to them, looks at them really intently & sticks her neck WAAAAY out to get a better look. It's really cute.

  • Oh wow. That is really cool. lol

  • nice my turtle follows me to only me nobody else haha vid 5/5

  • Did you know, the way you pronounce your turtle's name, is a swear word in korean? LOL

  • lol

  • Iknow, it's a swear word. My friend is Korean and uses it all the time...

  • Lol. No.. Sheba sounds more like Shiba Inu. Not Shebar.

  • what it means in korean XD

  • @hsungyoon7 LOL

  • @hsungyoon7 what does it mean ?

  • i have a red ear that stopped eating i have had it for 3 years and it is a female any ideas...?

  • check out my favorite turtle talk forum: readearslider (dot) com. Sorry I had to type the web address like that, but youtube doesn't let you post web addy's on here. Check out the forum, you will love it. the people on there are really knowledgeable about turtles & when I need help, I go there too. :)

  • u shoul've seen the shell of my turtle when i found it on my backyard....it took a while until it got back to its normal color. btw i always wondered who was the fk that wanted it get drived by

  • cooooooooooooool

  • go sheba!

  • omg!!! so cute!

  • what kind of turtle is that.. it looks like a red ear slider but the shell is different.

  • She's a red ear slider, with hard water stains on the shell.

  • a little vita shell wouldent hurt

    and some uvb

  • vita shell really isn't that good for the shell because it doesn't allow the shell to breathe. FYI - she HAS a UVA/UVB bulb. I bought the $60 bulb that provides both forms of light. The problem is the water around here is hard water which always stains her shell white. There is nothing I can do but wait for her to shed.

  • Is sheba a RES?

  • yes.

  • how old is she?

and does sheba still go in water?

  • I have had Sheba for 19 yrs, but I don't know how old she really is. She lives in a 90-gallon tank that has a UVA/UVB light, platform for her to get out of the water & sit under the light, Stealth water heater, and a big plastic tree root in the water that she likes to sleep on. RES must live in water. They only get out of the water to sit under the sun & warm up. :)

  • yeah thats what i thought, but in this video you put her out though, how long did you take her out for and how can i train my turtle to listen to me like that

  • Typical fat american turtle, God, even the turtles are fat.

  • Are you being serious or funny here?

  • Both?

  • FYI - a turtle that is as old as Sheba gets saggy regardless of "weight", especially after they lay eggs since the eggs take up a HUGE amount of space in the abdomen & there isn't any other place for the flesh to go. :) Sheba has laid up to 11 eggs in a clutch. Each one is almost an inch long.....

  • I'm ignorant about turtles to be honest. Just thought it looked fat, no offence.

  • how old is sheba?

  • That stereotypical comment just makes you look stupid. You're probably from some fucked up country yourself.

  • Aw, did you rescue her? It looks like she's been through some rough times previously. That is really cool that she responds like that!

  • Aweeeee I've always wanted a turtle but my parents said they carry samonella :(

  • If u buy one from a good turtle owner and not from a mall or pond they will not have samonella. But turtles are not a very easy pet so dont get one if u have not done reaserch they are very expencive and require very large tanks when they are full grown. my tank is 209 gallons (if u wana see it i have video of it on my channel)

  • samonella is just a bacteria. all u have to do is just wash ur hands later- after u have finsihed touching the turtle, i have two turtles

  • That's so weird! My dog's name is Sheba!!! XD

  • just wondering, i heard of a desiese called soft shell, i dont want my red eared slider to get it, is there any way of stopping it from happening? someone reply please.

  • Once a week you can let a slider dry out for 24 hours if it becomes a problem but a good basking spot with light will help solve it.

  • Wow, I never knew reptiles could be so loving. Cool!

  • cool red ear slider i havnt seen 1 that big where did u get it i want anthr 1

  • Is that a red eared slider!? it looks cool and is very well trained!!!

  • Seriously ! turtles might be slow and steady!!

But if you traet them well they will treat you well too!!

    Cheers!

    Thet turtle is cool!

  • cute

  • Does it have a Rotting shield cuz it looks like so...

  • No. the shell is stained from all the calcium in the water ("hard water"). This is a condition that is not harmful for the turtle & the stained scutes eventually peel off.

  • Okay, i got it, i know what ya mean... okay thanks for the info. I got 2 yellow bellies myself and 1 Yellow eared slider, their awesome animals, just like your turtle.

  • That's amazing and she is pretty! My Nemo always looks so grumpy but he's still handsome.

  • Isnt Sheba the brand of cat food? lol

  • Ha that is so cool! i have seen dog people and cat lovers but turtles? Thats a new one.

  • She is over 20 yrs old & 9 inches long. They can grow to be as big as 12 inches. :)

  • Wow! how old is she? and do they grow bigger than that?? I got two baby ones.

  • HaHa Thats so cute!

I have a turtle and shes like a dog too xD

Whenever Im eating something she comes to my feet and follows me around...

    Im tellin' ya...turtles are smart!

  • Does it have shell rot? I have one about as big as yours! Hahah his name's CHOCO

  • Not shell rot. It is called "calcium stain".

  • That is so cool. I want a turtle haha. I'm looking at red ear sliders and eastern something or another species with yellow markings. Both seem to be good beginning turtles and friendly.

  • Turtle's and Tortoise's are wonderful pets to have, I only have 1 water turtle, spent 1,000$ trying to get her healthy again, and our Spur tortoise charges the door when he sees me coming with his breakfast ^_^, you are so lucky, none of my turtles act like that other then the big guy for breakfast.

  • aww she is lovely ,love the name too fab

how long do you keep her out of the tank ?

  • I can keep her out of the tank for up to 8 hours. The only reason I say "8 hours" is because I see the turtles on lakes who sit on logs & they are out of the water for about 8 hours. Most of the time, I only leave Sheba out for about 4 hours though because I don't like to leave her alone too long.

  • thank you for the info

  • Your turtle is beautiful, and smart apparently.

  • Thank you!

  • wow that's a massive turtle! mine is only around 3 inches. Your turtle is more like a puppy that waddles lol!

  • LOL! Thanks! I love her & she's a sweetie. :)

  • What kind of turtle is that? It looks like an RES to me I could be wrong

  • Question how can you tell how old they are and how can you tell if their a boy or a girl?

  • There is no way to tell exactly how old a turtles is unless you have had them since they hatched from an egg. You can't tell if it is a boy or a girl until they are about 4 inches long. The boys have very long front claws & a thick long tail. The girls have very short front claws and a tiny tail.

  • aws thats cute. I've had my turtles for 3years they are getting way bigger becuz they shell is starting to kinda shed and my vet told me thats a sign of them getting mature and my turtles dont come to me =[ unless they want food xD but i have a boy and a girl and they are doing the mating ritual least once every 3weeks wish me luck on having hatchlings :D

  • 2 quick questions...what's wrong with her carapace? it's very odd looking, definitely not normal...2 - how old is she? the second may answer the first

  • In that vid, she had a lot of hard water stains on her shell. "hard water" means there is a lot of calcium & other minerals in the water & can stain the shell. The high calcium is good for her when she drinks the water, just has a tendency to make the shell gray. Since this vid was taken, she has shed all that gray & looks much better. Sheba is approx. 20 yrs old (I've had her for 18 yrs).

  • lool sheeba is a swear word in korean

  • man!! im gettin a turte now =]

  • LOL! Just keep in mind they are not ALL like that. I've had her for 18 yrs so she has had plenty of time to "get used" to being with me. LOL!

  • es muy inteligente yo tengo una y me muerde

  • por que?

  • no se es su naturaleza, solo me sigue dentro de la tina

  • i love her! i wanna come n steal her! haha

  • You seem like an amazing turtle mommy! Sheba is very lucky to have you!!

  • Thank you! I feel very lucky to have her too!

  • thats one fast ass turtle

  • LOL, yeah! :)

  • i have a male and a female red eared slider and theyre so cute when they play together...sometimes in an immature way but still lmao

  • how do you train her??

  • I don't think I really "tried" to train her, she just started doing it. I feed her in a separate pan of water to keep her aquarium more clean & I guess she just got used to being out of the tank because every time she was, I would be feeding her. I would never try to "train" a turtle that is little though. They are too scared when they are outside of their tank home.

  • I really like your turtle sheba!i like when you call her and she really comes to you, i cant wait until my baby do that!how long did it take?

and i was wondering which website you get your res supplies and food from?

    please help

  • how did you get rid of the hard water stains? ...now my turtle has them :[

  • After a while, a layer of shell will peel off & the shell will be fresh & pretty underneath. If you have hard water in your house, it will stain their shell (because of all the calcium in the water) & there isn't much you can do about it. It's not harmful for them to have these stains though. :)

  • thank you soo much! :)

  • She's really cute, its great she's so comfortable with you!

What is the discoloration on her shell?

  • Those are hard-water stains from all the calcium in the water. The good news is that her shell has peeled ever since I took those videos & now she is pretty & brown again, no white spots!

  • I LOVE turtles!

  • She is SO CUTE!!!!I also have two red eared sliders.I love turtles.Sheba is special!!!
