I find it a little hard to believe that Karen's reference to Richard's "private life" was a reference to his quaaludes addiction. It just doesn't seem like that would be the word choice someone would make, especially at that time. I do wonder if it has something to do with his sexuality. I read that he's married to his first cousin, though. And that Karen was against them dating in the first place (they married after she died). So maybe that's the reference being made in this film?
The Carpenters can be seen as a gay band, the same for ABBA, even if they were not gay! Karen was showing herself as a too much perfect girl - like someone that can't be real.
I applaude the creativity...but it is just that. Creativity without any sense of integrity or accountability. Didn't even bother to use factual information, or get permission to use the music, like everyone else has to. And why a movie about Karen Carpenter Todd? When there are so many other singers that have had equally misfortunate lives. If Karen really were a victim of her family or circumstances like you portray, your "creative movie" has done even more to harm her after her death.
Actually, when Tom Burris first met Karen, he claimed that he had never heard of the Carpenters and didn't know that Karen was a singer (the exact opposite of what is depicted here). Karen's associates found this hard to believe. One asked him, "Don't you own a radio?" But Karen seemed to fall for it, and thought that Tom liked her for herself and not for her money....
@jiminykrooked: I made a video to Baby Got Back and during the part when where Sir Mix A Lot says, "Ladies (yeah) ladies, do you wanna roll my Mercedes?" the "ladies" are played by dolls that look like Barbies, but aren't. Didn't want to step on Mattel's toes...However Sir Mix A Lot may get mad since I didn't get his permission either! LOL!
Everyone knows what Richard's "little secret" is and yea, he is one of the main reason' s why this movie will NEVER be on DVD. He hates it. I love Todd for making this!
Karen was a lesbian. Richard can be married with 500 kids but that does not mean he is not gay. Just because you might not like the truth does not make it go away.
Richard is not gay. The secret was his addiction to quaaludes which no one knew about. Richard nowadays is married and has 5 children. He never was gay. He had girlsfriends all during the 1970's...
