I prefer the solo Bruce with little more than an acoustic guitar. In my opinion (and I know i'll get A LOT of grief over this, but whatever) the E Street band overdoes it....that's exactly why i don't like U2....i'm a simple man, bruce portrays himself to be a simple man, and i believe simple=stripped-down sound. the boss must agree with this principal if he chooses to go there so often.
It was my own fault, but I've been homeless and broke. What breaks my heart is what I saw happpening to the children. Nothing compares to the misery of a homeless family.
Two awesome guys, the streets poets at there best.................but it is one simple question, Bruce The Boss Springsteen always gets the top place!
For me, Bruce's '96 acoustic tour was his best. I saw him in Birmingham in '80 & Wembley in '85. But The Royal Albert Hall in '06 was beyond any other live performance.
He opened with 'Born In The USA' & at the end the entire audience just sat there transfixed for maybe ten whole seconds before applauding! Never seen anything like it.
I was in row 13 so the sound from the speakers was pushing past me. I was so close to the stage I could hear every note from his Takamine guitar. Awesome.
The who better, Dylan or Springsteen, arguments are silly and pointless. No one will *ever* contribute more or more than Dylan, who, along with the Beatles, showed that rock n' roll can be serious adult art. Without Dylan, there is no Springsteen. Dylan's first album was over 45 years ago. On the other hand, over the last 35 years, Springsteen has written songs, and performed at a less of excellence that is unsurpassed by anyone. Many believe him to be Rock's greatest live performer ever.
i happened to see Springsteen perform this song on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno years ago. just him and his guitar. Springsteen's music quickly captivated the crowd and took over the room - it was like the people in the audience were holding their breath as they listened. as they say, you could have heard a pin drop. truly one of the most riveting live performances i've ever seen. i think about it to this day...
Yes! The Leno live was truly something special!! You can see it on the DVD "The complete video anthology / 1978-2000" (also has the regular video version).
All Bruce concerts have special memories 4 me, I saw this tour in small theatre in Toronto, we had balcony seat right over stage. At the end - when coming off stage Bruce looked up, put his hands over his eyes to shield from lights and then blew us a kiss.
This song/album is beautifully poignant, from the Firenze DVD I think.
Bruce is THE KING!! Anyone read the book or seen the film on which this song was based 3Grapes of Wrath". We had to do that for English Lit in 65, its a real heart rendering story.
andrew u can never say dylan has lost it. because his 'it' is better than anyone will have. just dont see him live and remember the old. Springsteen live is just a treat and always will be
dude, dylans pushing 70 and he's lived the rock star life since his twenties. and he lived through the sixties (hell, he was the sixties) i'd expect him to be burnt out and senile by now
One of the most profound and moving folk-songs ever written.

grouder:
If you knew your idol so well, why don't you read his speech for Dylan for his entrance to the "Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame":
"Like Elvis freed your body, Bob freed your mind..."
That should answer your question.

Raised on Dylan, nurtured by the Boss, now I'm just soaking it all in. The man is really talented above and beyond the typical singer songwriter.
