Interesting to note some think he is shy, if you grow up in OZ particularly in his time and before you learned not to take your self to seriously, it`s unaustralian. That may be changing now but back in the day you did not stick your head to high.If you did you usually had to defend it.The tall poppy thing...
In March 2000, before his Gladiator Oscar win, Russell spoke at a screening of his film, before a bunch of us non-industry folks. He totally amazed us with his wit, kindness and charm. We will be forever in his debt for that night, when he gave of himself to his fans.
russell is def one of my favorite actors. even with all the movies and fame he has...hes still so down to earth and ou can tell he never lost his realistic view on things. i wouldnt mind hanging out with him he seems cool.
Can we institute some policy that women cannot show up and giggle at everything attractive actors say? They make the whole actors studio look bad. He is there as an actor, not a piece of meat.
@oooshitman9 He is a douchebag in some respect. Because of his shyness and avoidance of connecting with people personal. But ying and yang would make this one of the most great features.
Just because Pacino wasn't screaming his balls off during his session doesn't mean he came off as "shy", just not the crazy Pacino folks would expect from watching some of his films.
@xXzibitx That was a stellar performance. Do you happen to remember the other actors who were nominated alongside him that year? I watched a documentary on YouTube about the mathematician Russell Crowe depicted. It's wonderful that his contribution to Mathematics is recognized now, and not posthumously. The poor man is an inspiration for people who are plagued with severe mental illness. He was also an Eccentric and extremely arrogant. Crowe portrayed him with insight and depth!
@sethmusic you know this stuff has started to drive me mad in the last few years. you watch an award show or any show, and soon as they mention black people you get an obligatory shot of a black person in the audience. it makes me cringe so much i can't really watch any of that shite any more. anyway well noticed
what is that film technique called?......is it a "turn away" or something like that? i shouldnt care, but i want to know the names of the techniques i would like to use..........and i would lick lipton's balls to know.
Russell is so intelligent and thoughtful, just really enjoyable to watch this wonderful man who seemed so misunderstood by Hollywood. He's not a "bad boy" , just extremely passionate about his craft.
Hey, Mimo. Thanks for posting these again. A very good interview in which Russell appears so modest and even a bit shy in the presence of his peers. A different and perhaps more accurate view of the man. Very enjoyable.
By public jim you mean America?

I dont know why people say he is shy! He is just chilling sitting in the hot seat telling his lifestory, what would you expect him to act?!

He seems like a douche bag. I don't care for any of his movies. They all suck. He is the most OVERRATED actor behind Johnny Depp.

Then again, he has an oscar, and you don't. :O

His body language is very interesting
He sits shyly, almost embarassed
Not relaxed, and seems naturally withdrawn
Probably a natural introvert
That comes through in his acting
But he obviously overcomes those tendencies through his work
RustyShunt 1 year ago
@RustyShunt Well said. He was wonderful in A Beautiful Mind and I can see the body language you stated above in his character in that movie...
