  • i dont really get how it did it may you explain

  • @TheNjdevils11

I'd be happy to answer your questions, but please tell me what you need clarified. Please read the comments thread, and ask away, I'll try to fill any holes for you....

  • @TheNjdevils11 nevermind i got it

  • What is a tow motor ?

  • @truerailfan01

an engine used to tow something around - in this case it was an electric AEM7/HHP8 used to tow the LSL "backwards" to SHELL.

  • What is a tow motor ?

  • What is a tow motor ?

  • What is a tow motor ?

  • also known as the nec

  • this is NOT technically part of the NEC. The NEC turned off at CP-216, SHELL Interlocking. This is MN's New Haven Line ONLY.

  • So any news on the M8's are we going have to wait another ten years for new cars? reguardless the M2 M4 M6's are running well anywayz. So New Haven is fine without newer equipment. What do you think Josh?

  • the prototype M8s should be in by years end - even if they just make it on 12/30....

  • Amtrak owns a few P32AC-DM locomotives which run on third rail and diesel.

Man, we need these trains running on the New Haven Line more..

  • Eighteen of them to be exact.

  • nhlives I have a question, Can Amtrak's Genesis Locomotives use Metro-North's Third Rail ??? The reason is bcuz I saw 48/448 in the video here I was wondering if it was running in Deisel Mode or Electric ???

  • although originally built with the ability to do so they no longer can. The shoes and shoe beams on Amtrak's engines are set up for OVERriding (LIRR/NYCTA style) third rail while MN uses UNDERriding (NYC style)

  • Thanks 4 the info !!!

  • @nhlives It's a simple enough adjustment to make them under-run. But the Amtrak GEnnies can't run into Grand Central because they don't have an emergency hatch on the nose like the MN ones do. No point in adjusting them.

  • isnt it #49?

  • at the time the weekend train number was 149, not 49.

  • i was at this station the other day

  • Nice video! Is their any difference between the horizon fleet cafe cars and the amfleet cafe cars?

  • So what was the Lake Shore doing on the New Haven?

  • I have added a description, please read it and then feel free to ask any questions you still have at that time. I would be happy to entertain them.

  • just a question, idk so much about Amtrak.

isn't the dining car supposed to come first before the cafe car?

  • I dunno about that but this train doesn't have a diner anymore, it has "diner lite" which is shittier food served in a cafe car, thus requiring two cafes in the consist (one horizon and one amfleet-II)....

  • The Amtrak train from Penn Station to Boston, when do they do their crew swapping in New Haven or Rhode Island or something.

  • Amtrak trains on the BOS-NYP run are crewed as follows:

    NYP-NHV

    NHV-BOS

Although on certain Acela runs the crews will work NYP-BOS account faster turnaround time.

  • no ass, they run from new york to florida with a stop in virginia. cuz that is the only thing that makes sense isn't it KID

  • no ass, they make more stops on the run 2-3 in each state it runs in .. ..

  • Acela Expresses only sometimes run long-pool with crews thru from NYP to BOS.

  • ohh

  • Wow. Amtrak through Mt Vernon. I bet that turned a few (commuter) heads.

  • commuters? I doubt they'd even notice.......

  • The only thing that might boggle a commuter who has ridden the line daily for at least a few years are the Viewliners. Looking at them from the outside sort of makes them look like bi-levels. Commuters probably just assume it's new equipment though.

  • yes, exactly correct! I'm glad someone understood that....

  • actually I believe the 1 prefix was added at Metro North's request. Normally on Sa&Su this train runs on a SLIGHTLY different sched NYP-ALB and is called 149 on the governing timetables.

  • Great footage Josh! 5*****!

  • nope, the train in the video is 149 - I have a copy of the paperwork if you really need me to prove my point.
